It annoys the hell out of me when a caller reports they'd been shot, stabbed, or badly injured in some other way and the dispatcher asks the victim if they need an ambulance. "No, I just wanna go to the mall."
Oh stop it she was dealing with the brother part of call so I don’t blame her for asking about an ambulance and also you got alarm going in the back ground really loud so pardon her she couldn’t hear what they where saying so don’t be rude when you don’t know what you are talking about By asking if you need an ambulance, they can gauge the urgency of the situation. Medical emergencies can be life-threatening, so it's important to determine if an ambulance is necessary.
I have a friend who is a police officer and I asked him about where he shoots. He said that he'd been trained to shoot at "the chest... center of mass." I suppose that a cop might train on your scenario, art... but if they have to shoot, they will aim for a place they can't miss.
I feel sooo sorry for the whole family. This guy would never have wanted to be like this when he grew up & his poor family are in such an impossible situation! On the one hand, they know he's ill & so still love him cos they know if he was OK, he wouldn't want to be like this, but on the other hand, he's hurting them in the worst way possible cos of his illness! How on earth do you cope with that?! At least while he's a danger to people he won't be freed. And hopefully, he'll be OK in custody.
Patient: I've been shot Dispatcher: Do you need an ambulance? If I were the patient, i would say Me: do YOU need an ambulance? Whats wrong with you, what do you think?
Back then, it took a while to trace the call number...but I understand what you're trying to say. I saw in another Rescue 911 it took about 8 minutes to trace a call.
If he has committed any act against another person to include making threats, he can be charged with assault/battery and from there the court can order him to be institutionalized for as long as needed.
If the title is in quotation marks, then it was the title that was printed in the TV listings. Some of the titles were never printed in the TV listings, so if the title isn't in quotation marks, then I made it up because I didn't know the official title.
@mizwyn Most 911 dispatch centers back in 1989 didn't have ANI/ALI. Some did, not all. Also, nowadays, most people call 911 from a cell phone... so the only address that comes into the dispatch center is the address of the cell tower the cell phone is hitting.
@vickiormindyb There is an difference in our emotions between killing someone who intentionally possess an Immediate thread to life , and a person who unknowingly possess the same threat.
@mizwyn it was the 80's. They didn't have the equipment like they do now to have the address pop up. Also asking for an ambulance is just standard procedure and they must ask. Some people refuse.
how was she able to be on the phone after her alarm went off? if it was anything like mine the burglar alarm is supposed to seize the phone line to call out.
Its interesting that the mother said to him that he had to kill him... and that the guy was adamant that he was going to go after his family after he left.
here's my theory for the opening intro where a police dispatcher says Houston police dept the caller sounds like martha from this segment because in the intro the woman has the same voice and frantic tone, I wonder if it's an outtake.
From what I understand (I'm not a police officer, so take this for what it's worth), it's really hard to hit a specific part of the body, even if you aim. If the suspect is endangering someone, the officer has to act fast. One shot might be all s/he has. A limb is a lot smaller than the torso, so if the officer has one shot to eliminate the suspect's ability to hurt anyone, the torso is the best target. I'm sure it can't be easy for the officer to have to shoot someone, either.
Not an officer either however, when a police officer arrives to a situation their alertness will be compromised by what's going on. Having said that when it comes to having to use a gun, the officers already compromised alertness will make it harder for him/her to zero in. Only gonna have one chance to neutralize the threat because a followup shot may injury an innocent person
@vickiormindyb Also if they are an immediate threat to somebody else's life. For instance there was a story of a man on a highway who was stomping his toddler on the side of a freeway.. The officer drew his gun and killed the man, and was 100% justified even though there was no direct threat to his life.
The goal of the officer is to stop the threat and the most successful means of doing so is with body shots. When you shoot a person in the leg that person can still shoot back. A head shot almost always stops the person, but is even more likely to kill than a body shot, and the head is a much smaller target than the body. Same goes for a leg shot. It's much easier to miss a leg shot than a center of mass shot.
I'm just curious, if she knew that he was trying to break down her door, why didn't she grab something to defend herself with, like a knife, a large pot, something? I can understand being terrified and scared, but a lot of times if you fight back, that will make an attacker back off. I"m just glad that this story had a happy ending.
She really didn't need to ask the victim "if" she needed an ambulance though... I agree with you there. As for your other question, some 911 systems don't have that auto-trace feature, which can be quite useful. Nowadays, I think all 911 systems have that for land lines and many have that for cell phones. As for the alarm, it would have been slower to follow that lead than to ask for the address.
34 years have passed since this happened. When I saw what happened, I was afraid because I didn’t know what he was going to do. This happened on a Thursday and 9 days before my seventh birthday. I don’t think this would’ve been a great early birthday present if I witnessed this. At the time this happened, I was living in Fountain Hills Arizona. I have family who lives in Texas on my mother’s side of the family.
in the opening intro of the Rescue 911 segment a police dispatcher says "Houston Police Dept" is there an unaired Houston Poliice Dept segment or was it an audio outtake from one of the Houston segments or this one?
"the world we live in is basically safe".Yeah Right.....now it's all gone down to (excuse my language) Hell in a handbag. Oh By The Way in case anyone is wondering, I was being sarcastic.
I never understood stupid people just standing there waiting for a crazy person to enter their home…it’s like run dummy run to nearest bedroom lock the door behind you jump the window when you hear he’s in the house and run to neighbors house etc.. just run and don’t stand there waiting on him to enter and pop you one 🙄🙄🙄🙄
She was repairing the solar heat system on the roof of the house. She had been throwing junk off the roof into the yard, and she picked up the junk and put it in her shed. The spider bit her while she was in there.
My brother is schizophrenic and he tried to kill us..my family..even dug holes in the backyard..after his last outburst he got locked up in 1999...he is still in a state hospital .worse part is all my family members feel safe knowing he is not coming to kill us Thats why the mom in this episode said, ,"your gonna have to kill him". What mom tells a cop to kill her child? A mom with a crazy gun toting child that hears voices. Take one out to save thr lives of the whole family.
Not until she was connected to the number. And for all she knew Martha might have just been grazed by the bullet and might not have been seriously injured.
Victim: “He shot me” Mother:”where?” 911 Dispatcher: “Do you need an ambulance?” Stupid, stupid questions. And the 911 dispatcher thought the mother was calling her name. Really?!
Mental illness is not an easy thing to deal with especially if it's your own family. They don't know what they are doing and are not in their right mind. People don't understand that it is called an ILLNESS for a reason. They are SICK and need treatment. It's possible that he thought his family was going to harm him and that's why he was attacking family. Schizophrenia distorts the world to the sick person. He probably thought his life was in danger.
They should of had bags packed in their cars in case he came looking for one of them like he did and if they had the bag packed she could have just gone somewhere safe!!

As long as we're doing requests...Does anyone know if the episode with the guy who shot his pregnant wife and himself and tried to pass it off as an accident, where the cops ended up finding them by using their sirens while the dispatcher listened through the open phone line is posted?...In Boson if I remember correctly
I love that both the victim and the dispatcher in this episode both share the name Martha.
It annoys the hell out of me when a caller reports they'd been shot, stabbed, or badly injured in some other way and the dispatcher asks the victim if they need an ambulance. "No, I just wanna go to the mall."
exactly! Of course they need an ambulance!
Like yeah I need a ambulance! Do you think I’m calling to order a DAMN PIZZA!
Lol exactly. Nah I called you just to tell you I've been shot. Now onto your next call 😊
If he intends to kill multiple people upon leaving prison, why EVER release him?
He wasn't in prison, he was in the state mental institution.
Overcrowding and lack of funds
this is a treasured segment from my childhood
one of the creepiest and most sadistic episodes I've ever seen- the alarm going off didn't help, either!
the segments I like are where shatner says Actors have helped us reconstruct the events, this is one of them.
I have a friend who is a police officer and I asked him about where he shoots. He said that he'd been trained to shoot at "the chest... center of mass." I suppose that a cop might train on your scenario, art... but if they have to shoot, they will aim for a place they can't miss.

How on earth do you cope with that?! At least while he's a danger to people he won't be freed. And hopefully, he'll be OK in custody.
@calleddy69 "No! She needs a donut."
That made me laugh for the last 3 minutes. Thanks for making my day!
don't these videos make you cry a good cry
That's sad that a mother had to make such a decision on whether her child should live or die...
L O L, Dispatcher: is your name Martha, because my name's Martha too, L O L.
I hope everyone is OK now, and I also hope Jimmy was eventually able to get the help he needed.
It is your friend Taylor Rychel and I know one of your friends is your friend who is
I just wanna say that anyone (including allgood) thats uploading these, if you could upload MORE that would be fantabulous.
i hope this woman is okay now
Patient: I've been shot
Dispatcher: Do you need an ambulance?
If I were the patient, i would say
Me: do YOU need an ambulance? Whats wrong with you, what do you think?
It's okay, just sleep it off bro.
He shot me in the hand. "DO YOU NEED AN AMBULANCE?" 👏 wow
No! I need a Papa Johns delivery driver
wow i didnt know schizophrenia can get sooo severe as in this segment that he tried to harm his family.
OMG!!!!!!!!! DAUGHTER: IVE BEEN SHOT DIPATCHER: DO YOU NEED AN AMBULANCE???? siriously that made me laugh forever!!!!!
hahaha yea that was funny
HE SHOT ME!! IN THE HAND!! "do you need an ambulance??"
I would have told them, what do you think, YOU BIG DUMMY??
The ability to trace calls by 911 dispatch is actually fairly new. Even by the mid 1990s not all 911 dispatch centers had the ability to trace calls.
Thanks.
Back then, it took a while to trace the call number...but I understand what you're trying to say. I saw in another Rescue 911 it took about 8 minutes to trace a call.

I can't believe this happened almost 20 years ago.
The cop says the son said "He didn't want to do die today". And yet he has already been after his family to kill them. That is messed up!!
To this day, where I reside, one can legally purchase a used handgun with only a drivers license.
If the title is in quotation marks, then it was the title that was printed in the TV listings. Some of the titles were never printed in the TV listings, so if the title isn't in quotation marks, then I made it up because I didn't know the official title.
it was the 80's that was prior to the strict backround checks of now.

If he continues to make threats like that he needs to stay locked up.
Alyssa Beale You can thank Reganomics for that. They started letting out mental patients because they didn't have any funding anymore.
I agree alyssa bealle
Laws were different back then
Yes they have to if he's a danger to himself or to others
Mother is giving better advise that dispatcher.
Thought so too. I found myself getting angry at the dispatcher while watching the chaos that ensued at the moment of shooting.
wow what a giant cluster, the daughter should have called 911 right away instead of calling the mom and creating this conference call
theone2225
She wasted precious sec/min by calling her mother she should of called 911 right away
@graduation2010ful He was not autistic, he was schizophrenic.
This just goes to show how serious & severe mental illness can be!
@vickiormindyb There is an difference in our emotions between killing someone who intentionally possess an Immediate thread to life , and a person who unknowingly possess the same threat.

I think she knew it, but she was panicking and couldn't remember it off the top of her head.
Man I LOVE your videos
Not all 911 dispatch centers have the ability to trace calls. Most do now but not all of them.
Watch your language do you know how many kids watch this?! And when didn't she call 911 when she saw him at the door?
@vickiormindyb Also if they are an immediate threat to somebody else's life. For instance there was a story of a man on a highway who was stomping his toddler on the side of a freeway.. @1RadicalOne- You have an excellent point.
The cops showing up should have thought to wear bullet proof vests in case the son were to shoot them.
Very True.
"He shot me" "Do you need an ambulance" - - DERR HELLO. YESSS and armed police.
Police officers are armed
Victim :"I've been shot"
Dispatch : "Do you need an ambulance?"
Me: Wtf
I'm glad one Martha was comfortable with the other Martha.

thanks allgood
Yeah, I would have to say something like - "Ive been shot in the face but you know what, I'm fine."
She really didn't need to ask the victim "if" she needed an ambulance though... I agree with you there.

No she's not. 1. She's in a panic. 2. It's not unreasonable that she doesn't know the exact address at all.
this could fall under the category "Incompetent to stand trial due to mental disease or defect" since he has schizophrenia
I don't know, but this did happen 18 years ago, so the laws were probably different back then.
He may have already owned it before he got committed and family didn't know. Either way, not very comforting.
I would have been like "uuuuh, let's not do this on the couch" if the paramedics were working on me... lol
In Dallas? God...I live in Dallas County...so this one kind of hits home for me...
dont let him out, simple as that. let him rot in a jail cell.
It sounded like, "Dallas emergency speaking."
She was probably in 'Shock'.
Because the dipatcher was on the phone with both of them.
Yes.
Well back then not all have the enhanced 911
I guess they didn't teach scene safety in the 80's...
34 years have passed since this happened. When I saw what happened, I was afraid because I didn’t know what he was going to do. This happened on a Thursday and 9 days before my seventh birthday. omg i hope they never let him out
That's "Boston" from Episode 120. It has already been uploaded.
Do you have the episode about the Dallas cop who got shot and paralyzed next to a school? I remember that incident pretty well.
in the opening intro of the Rescue 911 segment a police dispatcher says "Houston Police Dept" is there an unaired Houston Poliice Dept segment or was it an audio outtake from one of the Houston segments or this one?
"the world we live in is basically safe".Yeah Right.....now it's all gone down to (excuse my language) Hell in a handbag. Oh By The Way in case anyone is wondering, I was being sarcastic.

Do you have the episode called Boxcar Boy? About a boy that falls into a boxcar on a train?
It's been 28 years since this happened. I wonder what made Jimmy so crazy and mean.
The mother said he was schizophrenic...it is a harsh mental illness..cam cause delusions and very violent behavior
My brother is schizophrenic and he tried to kill us..my family..even dug holes in the backyard..after his last outburst he got locked up in 1999...he is still in a state hospital
.worse part is all my family members feel safe knowing he is not coming to kill us
Thats why the mom in this episode said, ,"your gonna have to kill him". What mom tells a cop to kill her child? A mom with a crazy gun toting child that hears voices. Take one out to save thr lives of the whole family.
He was schizophrenic. Most people who suffer from that disorder are not violent. But there are exceptions to every rule
@@chiccloset i'm sorry
This is why we need a psychological health system.
We have one
Not until she was connected to the number. And for all she knew Martha might have just been grazed by the bullet and might not have been seriously injured.
She got shot on the hand, so she's ok.
@rpones I know its a been a year but why would you even write that on a vid you watched? Have you matured since then?
No, because this happened in Dallas, not Houston.
Victim: “He shot me”
Mother:”where?”
911 Dispatcher: “Do you need an ambulance?”
Stupid, stupid questions. And the 911 dispatcher thought the mother was calling her name. Really?!
yeah its how they run vehicle licence plates
@calleddy69 how do you know the 911 operator barely heard her? she said the alarm was going off making it hard to hear her.
@vickiormindyb So you're saying if the perp's has a weapon pointed at a bystander, you cannot fire?
@graduation2010ful I understand you, but thats no reason to shoot someone. Maybe hit them or something but still, shooting is never the answer.
This guy need help I hope he got it.
That's the freaking womans fault for calling a relative instead of calling 911.
Is there a reason why she didn't throw the bolt lock on the door?

No it's not it's frightening and scary yes your so right you don't know what's going in a person s mind
They should of had bags packed in their cars in case he came looking for one of them like he did and if they had the bag packed she could have just gone somewhere safe!!
If the lady is shot--if the wound magically healed on it's own she would not need an ambulance!!!

Should be. Based on a true story, too.

He shot me...do you need an ambulance? What do you think?
