Jeeps Rock Crawling: The Trailer Queens

  • We went to Kansas Rocks for a shakedown run before our SMORR shakedown run, which is a shakedown for our Moab trip. We had a great pace, starting out in the South 40 and working our way North towards Carnage Canyon and Zuke's Squeeze. We had a respectable mix of rigs- most were JK Unlimiteds. The largest was a 2015 JKU Rubicon on Dana 60 axles, 38.9" Toys Mud Country tires and a 5.7l Hemi. Another JKU had a Sprintex supercharger. This was the LJ Rubicon's maiden voyage after being saved from a local dealership. The guys at Stomper Offroad put JK Rubicon axles under it with a Metalcloak long arm kit, which substantially lengthened the wheelbase. At the end of the day, which we'll call "lunchtime", the red Hemi JK ("Bass Mouth") snapped a tie rod. As he was climbing Zuke's Squeeze a rock was pulled up between the tire and frame, which split the cast tie rod end of his 2.5 ton Fusion 4x4 tie rod. Ironically, nobody brought a trailer. So we had to wait for a very good friend who was owed a lot of tacos and chicken wings, to drive his trailer down with a replacement Synergy tie rod (temporary).

    I just got a Jeep and it’s soo satisfying being able to make it up snowy hills and out of a heavily snowed in driveway with ease. Man I can see how this activity can be really enjoyable

      @@brauerbar In 1999, my wife and I bought the least expensive 1999 Jeep Wrangler with the least expensive engine, the least expensive transmission, the least expensive wheels and the least expensive tires. It did have the optional rear seats and optional hard top but those options have nothing to do with capability.
      We joined a Jeep owners club.
      We went on some of the club's treks (in Utah) and enjoyed that but most of the members spent much of their time at club meetings talking about all the Jeep parts they had broken.
      We couldn't afford to break our Jeep but, even driving it as carefully as we did, we were able to go almost everywhere the highely modified rigs could go. And then we didn't have any broken parts to "brag" about at the club meetings.

      That's what I like about my local Jeep group- they built their Jeeps to wheel them, not for show. There's a good mix of budget to gilded builds and it's neat to see what works and what doesn't.

    Sick to see newer jeeps out there. Most ppl where I’m from got these 4 door wranglers on 40s and the most off roading they do is at packed parking lots and they park isn’t he grass or on curbs. Meanwhile I’m going wheeling weekend in my xj lol. It’s my daily too 😂. Goes to show tho that there jeeps have 6 inch to 8 inch lifts on 40s and I’m running 4.5 rough cunt on 33s. Fuggum

      If you watch in better definition you can see that a rock got wedged between the wheel and arch, the spotter was too inexperienced to react in time. Dunno if a quick reaction wouldve made a difference but yeah.. = one broken jeep

    • @Berserkeroffroad
      @Berserkeroffroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of guys around here swear by them. What do you not like about them and which tire do you prefer?

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i dropped them years ago after arguing for a couple weeks. i got a set and after ~80mi ONE tire was missing all of the tread in ONE frisbee sized spot. think brains, not sanded down/low tread. to me it was clearly a molding/casting issue and a bunch of air got in there somehow during the process. you could peel tread off all around the area and underneath was smooth worms and giant cavities. a tire should be one solid piece when it's all done. if you take a grinder to the tread it should be smooth and solid until you get to the inside. Nitto told me i do too many e-brake slides. besides it not appearing like that at all i was also surprised they thought i'm out sliding around everywhere only locking up ONE tire 😂apparently i'm also completely in tune with my tires because i could e-brake on the EXACT spot repeatedly and have normal wear everywhere else over 4 tires! damn i'm good! j/k, lost a customer for life. i use BFG's now.
