It just amazes me that you have done these reviews every week since 2014 and after six years you STILL Haven't done All the Joes and vehicles....shows you how much they made in that 12 year run.
When I was 9 and found out Storm Shadow was no longer in Cobra but was in GI Joe, everyone at school wanted Storm Shadow but no one's parents could find him anywhere. I think I was one of the first to have the new Storm Shadow. Version 2 is really Storm Shadow to me.
As a kid in the early 90's you nailed it. My friend had the '88 version and I had a good amount of the early comics (Including "Silent Interlude," which blew my mind as a 6 year old comic book reader) so I was familiar with Storm Shadow as he was first depicted in '84. But I was given the '92 Storm Shadow new off the peg as a Christmas gift. I had the whole collection of the 12" Hall of Fame figures too! This was Storm Shadow to me.
I've always had a love/hate feeling about this figure. It was the Storm Shadow I had but I much preferred the look of the original and hated the lack of articulation. Great review HCC788, I especially liked the comparisons.
While the 1984 Storm Shadow is iconic, my favorite is the V.2 one. I always used Storm Shadow as a double agent for the Joes when he was with Cobra. Having him switch sides was a bonus.
I always assumed that Storm Shadow joined Cobra as a viper and proved himself to rise to CC's bodyguard. I think there was a later GI Joe comic that explained this.
It's crazy that Snake Eyes is so cemented as a ninja that we forget Storm Shadow was basically the reason Snake Eyes was turned into a ninja in story. Snake Eyes first figure was the Commando...sure he knew martial arts, but Hama's story Silent Interlude, Storm Shadows first appearance set the stage for Snake Eyes, the Ninja.
Actually, issue #10 first revealed Snake-Eyes' ninja past. A full year before Storm Shadow. Although it is possible Larry Hama was privy to the 1984 plans at this time.
@@gishmoe3088 you are correct. I forgot about those panels. Storm Shadow may have indeed been looming though as the Hardmasters heartbeat technique is directly referenced. I still feel Storm Shadow is why they went with Snake Eyes being a ninja. It seemed rather abrupt as he was essentially just "mystery man" beforehand.
@@tonyjackson4078 Yes. I do agree that Snake Eyes was retconned as a ninja *because* of Storm Shadow. It only makes sense that Hama received character designs early from Hasbro in order to write up the files cards. (There is other evidence to support this, such as the early appearance of the Dreadnoks.) This worked out for the better, I think. Issue 10 made his connection to Storm Shadow feel a lot less convenient.
@@gishmoe3088 it was at the time a good direction as while Snake Eyes was a cool looking character, beyond never speaking he needed some meat to his story. Hasbro and even Hama went a little "Ninja Crazy" tho. I was much more ok with Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Billy the apprentice, and Jinx the next generation. Then hey...Zartan is a ninja, Firefly is a ninja....the red Ninjas are rogue Arishikage....calm down lol.
It's rather intriguing to me, that despite Tommy being a "Cobra" ninja, Snake Eyes (The "good guy") is the aggressor in that rivalry. Where Storm Shadow doesn't hold anything against him... he's just kind of in the way, a lot. However, Snake Eyes has a hell of a grudge to exact upon Storm Shadow. Which, let's be honest... Is rather good writing, on Hama's part. A but of subversion of expectation, on his part.
I bought the 12" H.o.F Storm Shadow, Duke and 3 other 12" GI Joe figures and put them away for my son. Later when he was old enough I bought him a few more of what was the anniversary of the classic line. The articulation was not the same. You can bend them at the elbow and knee but it takes some effort and makes a loud sound of plastic racheting against itself. V3 was also part of the box of Joes I bought for him at a yard sale. Both became snow ninjas when he played with them.
Version 3 was the first version of the character I could get my hands on. I absolutely loved the costume. I always thought it was some kind of artic camo, which is prefect for where I live.
Great review as always, HCC. I love Storm Shadow of course, but I prefer my ninjas to be mysterious and used in moderation. Too many dang ninjas running around can seriously damage my calm.
My favorite Storm Shadow was version 2. I had this figure too, and in liked it, but not as much as V2. I think I would have liked it more if it's was a standard design instead of the action gimmick.
Yep. They’re ratcheting joints sheathed inside the rubber, allowing for veeeery limited articulation. Barbies and large size Star Wars figures used similar joints in the knees.
Greetings from Peru, I like your videos. I recently started getting my Joes back and managed to get the Brawler Tank, it was my first vehicle, it would be great to see a reviu of it.
Could the knife on his chest be unpainted because it's hiddem underneath his costume? Former cobra viper??? I love this figure. Then again I love any version of storm shadow, great review!!
As much as I like Storm Shadow I always hated the figures with a gimmick action. I could never pose them exactly how I wanted leaving minimal battle poses (I love setting them all up in a giant action scene). Also, real ninja wear blue.
Version 2 of Stormshadow is my favorite but I also had this one as a kid and I like it as well. This version is my second favorite look for Stormshadow. I like the white to black to white transition and design of this version and whe I was a kid I saw it as a yin and yang design for the character; he was a bad guy with Cobra then found out that he was lied to and that Zantan had really killed Hardmaster and sought redemption and left Cobra joined the Joes and forgave Snakeeyes. The color scheme also works for cold weather missions as well but I always saw it as a yin/yang since he went from bad guy to good guy and I think that theme fits his character
While Ver. 2.0 is my personal favorite Storm Shadow I do like way Ver. 3.0 looks and it's also one that I know best. In other hand Ver. 1.0 doesn't really appeal to me at all since it's just too white for my taste.
Great review, this was my favorite ninja figure growing up and only one I was able to own of storm shadow as a kid, plus his colors work for a storm shadow black and white, the actor who played storm shadow in gi joe dic series also played falcon and the headman in the same series, he also played dinobot and rat trap in beast wars transformers
For the figures, I like version 2 the best. The 80's cartoon version (sleeveless) is an awesome-er* interpretation of the version 1 figure than the v1 figure. IMO *I don't care if it's not a real word. It gets my point across. And Amazon keeps hosing me. By delaying my G i Joe classified Arctic Storm Shadow order by a month to a month and a half. Meanwhile, new scalpers showed up since I placed my order on Aug. 26th. A couple sellers are even fulfilled by Amazon. WTH!
Although this particular version is by no means better than versions 1 or 2, I have to say that the overall sculpt and the color scheme of this figure is pretty decent. The sword could have been better designed and sculpted, even the 12 inch version somehow got that right. The Classified Series re-interpretation of this version of Storm Shadow turned out to be a pretty cool figure, but still I wish they had chosen v1 or v2 instead.
Resolute must be that oddity in canon that everyone chooses to forget... it was presented as a sequel to the original cartoon but ignored the movie & Dic series completely. Storm Shadow was back to being a Cobra ninja and had even less honor than in the Sunbow episodes. Overall I think the fans have taken to regarding Resolute as unrelated to the cartoon canon despite writer intentions because of all the continuity snarls, and at best only acknowledge it had a few interesting toys.
In the comic there is evidence of Snake Eyes being a ninja before issue 21, Silent Interlude. In an earlier issue he drops his heartbeat to simulate being dead to escape the brain wave scanner, and there is a panel that shows a masked individual in meditation. I don't know if the date of that issue predates the Storm Shadow figure.
The Classified version of that figure looks awesome! Too bad my Amazon pre-order got canceled. They really don't want us Canadians to have new released G.I. Joe figures!
Came here to say that. Also, I will add that those joints are exactly like the Barbie ones. In that the joint mechanism (if you can call it that) was concealed as the entire leg is covered/coated by a layer of rubber or very soft plastic. To make it look/feel more real. Note: I wonder if that layer eventually cracks from a lot of uses, or even just from enough time passing. At last the ones with pants and sleeves will cover those cracks. I have a few of them and a couple of the Street Fighter ones stored away somewhere.
No, he sucked. Oh wait you mean a good guy! Yeah I guess, he came out a year after Stormshadow though, so for a time ol stormy was the only Asian character in the line. Jinx was a couple years after that.
I liked v3 but it should not have had ninja action and should have had proper head and articulation. I think all of ninja force would have been better received/served just as normal figures.
1984 version was so great and hard to find in stores. When the 1988 version came out and I remember being excited to fit a small cobra sticker on his chest.
This isn't the worst Storm Shadow; but it certainly isn't the best either. I don't think any self respecting ninja would ever wear gold. But it least it isn't as garish as some of the other day-glow ninjas of the 90's.
Yes, in the Marvel Comic Book series written by Larry Hama, he was from Fresno California. At the time this action figure was released, Larry Hama was not involved with writing the file cards hence some errors in characters backgrounds appeared.
It just amazes me that you have done these reviews every week since 2014 and after six years you STILL Haven't done All the Joes and vehicles....shows you how much they made in that 12 year run.

"Larry Hama wasn't happy that the only Asian character in the series was a bad guy."
Quick Kick: Am I a joke to you?
Very true, man. I love Quick Kick.
And Tunnel Rat.
That one was my first Storm Shadow, but I consider him the G.I.Joe Storm Shadow, and the White one as the Cobra Storm Shadow.
Great review!

But I was given the '92 Storm Shadow new off the peg as a Christmas gift. I had the whole collection of the 12" Hall of Fame figures too! This was Storm Shadow to me.
V3 was the best looking. I used V1 as his son Steve and v2 and Patches aka Billy.
I've always had a love/hate feeling about this figure. It was the Storm Shadow I had but I much preferred the look of the original and hated the lack of articulation. Great review HCC788, I especially liked the comparisons.

I too like V2.
The first two versions are the best.

I kind of liked it better when Snake Eyes was just a commando and not a super ninja.
Always liked that version!
Great work B! Thanks for your time and effort.
In my opinion, this is the best GI Joe figure ever made. I just dig the color scheme. I wish I still had a mint one in the box.
Sub Zero and Scorpion, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Two of the best Ninja rivals ever!
Was a great and fave figure the best of the Ninja Force in this color scheme.
Gotta agree with you. There were a lot of great figures from the Ninja Force.
I bought the 12" H.o.F Storm Shadow, Duke and 3 other 12" GI Joe figures and put them away for my son. Later when he was old enough I bought him a few more of what was the anniversary of the classic line. The articulation was not the same. Nice review, I particularly enjoyed the comparison of the same styled storm shadow to the various sizes. Thanks!
between '84 - '88 everytime my parents brought me to a store -- I always looked for Storm Shadow (v1) .... he was so hard to find in my area.
I had both the 1984 and 1988 version, the 1984 Storm Shadow being my favorite G.I Joe figure of all time!
Version 3 was the first version of the character I could get my hands on. I absolutely loved the costume. I always thought it was some kind of artic camo, which is prefect for where I live.
I'll always love the fact that all of storm shadow V1's accessories fit onto his backpack. V3 doesn't even accommodate a backpack!
This figure is growing on me
The '92 version of Storm Shadow looks like a stunt man from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.
Great review as always, HCC. I love Storm Shadow of course, but I prefer my ninjas to be mysterious and used in moderation. Too many dang ninjas running around can seriously damage my calm.

This is my favorite version of Storm Shadow. I liked the arms as well.
The 12 inch figures have joints under the rubber elbow and knees makes a popping sound
Yep. They’re ratcheting joints sheathed inside the rubber, allowing for veeeery limited articulation. Barbies and large size Star Wars figures used similar joints in the knees.
Great video! My 2nd favorite Storm Shadow next to the '88 Storm Shadow. Very cool design though. 😎👍
this was my first love ,i love this toy it was my precious as a kid and v4 was epic too, the love i have for them as a kid... i need that
Greetings from Peru, I like your videos. I recently started getting my Joes back and managed to get the Brawler Tank, it was my first vehicle, it would be great to see a reviu of it.

"Slightly less beloved, Storm Shadow." Heresy!!!
Version 2 of Stormshadow is my favorite but I also had this one as a kid and I like it as well. This version is my second favorite look for Stormshadow. I like Stormshadow as a Joe better, Da Ninja force Snakeyes is really cool too!
V2 was my favorite. I liked the look oc rhis one... but hated his lack of articulation

Weird that ninties SS is actually More stealthy that the classic version because he has some black on him instead of being pure white.
Fue una de mis figuras favoritas cuando niño🥲
I've had this figure since the 90's, and I never realized that he had a knife on his chest!
Issue 10 of the comic was already giving hints of Snake Eyes being a ninja.
HCC788 sounds like a ninja name to me
Great review, this was my favorite ninja figure growing up and only one I was able to own of storm shadow as a kid, plus his colors work for a storm shadow black and white, the actor who played storm shadow in gi joe dic series also played falcon and the headman in the same series, he also played dinobot and rat trap in beast wars transformers

To be honest v2 Storm shadow was my 3rd figure and for me is my definitive version.
I love how Power Rangers and Pokemon fans are looking like dads these days. And us 80's GI Joe fans are starting to look like uncles and grandads.

My 2nd fave SS
Not much of a fan of the articulation but very nice sculpt and color scheme. I really like this version.

Hall of Fame figures did have articulation at knees and elbows the were rubberized and some kind of wire inside
This is the Storm Shadow you play as in the Capcom Nintendo game
im going to paint my sword, sickle, and hook as they are both all-white.
This is so badass!
I prefer the second version of storm shadow that I had back then!
I Believe that the three sizes are supposed to be:
1. Wee
2. Not-So-Wee
3. Friggin' Huge
Ninja's everywhere but not one Israeli commando/kav magraw experts? Well maybe Hasbro could take a hint from this post
The Classified version of that figure looks awesome! Too bad my Amazon pre-order got canceled. They really don't want us Canadians to have new released G.I. Joe figures!
Who do we blame for G.I. Joe ending up like this? Who do I release the hounds on?
The HOF figures have elbow and knee articulations. They have that snappy way of doing it, like the Action Man did that came out after it.
Came here to say that. Also, I will add that those joints are exactly like the Barbie ones. In that the joint mechanism (if you can call it that) was concealed as the entire leg is covered/coated by a layer of rubber or very soft plastic. To make it look/feel more real.

I have a few of them and a couple of the Street Fighter ones stored away somewhere.
HASBRO just released this version in the Classified line but its a off - white than white. Might paint it?
I think the "pouch" on this right thigh is actually the nunchuku mentioned in the filecard, abeilt incorrectly labled.
Thoughts and opinions?
Could you imagine leaving a war and being invited to join a ninja clan?
Hasbro used to this mold figure Street Fighter Ken for GI Joe
Excellent
I guess ski mask Snake Eyes is going to be the next review
I love version 2
I love goooooold...❤💯✔
Id also like to add...
Wasn't quick kick a good Asian character?
No, he sucked.
Oh wait you mean a good guy! Yeah I guess, he came out a year after Stormshadow though, so for a time ol stormy was the only Asian character in the line. Jinx was a couple years after that.
Ok so
1 this is my Arctic storm shadow
2 storm shadow is and always will be cobra in my Joe world
October should be October's Guard's month...
Never did like Storm Shadow being a Joe
That's disappointing to hear.
I did. Redemption was a theme that I've ever liked.
I liked v3 but it should not have had ninja action and should have had proper head and articulation. I think all of ninja force would have been better received/served just as normal figures.
1984 version was so great and hard to find in stores. When the 1988 version came out and I remember being excited to fit a small cobra sticker on his chest.
Tetris Storm Shadow.
👍😎

No such thing as too many Ninjas!!😂
wait, isn't storm shadow from Fresno?
Yes, in the Marvel Comic Book series written by Larry Hama, he was from Fresno California. At the time this action figure was released, Larry Hama was not involved with writing the file cards hence some errors in characters backgrounds appeared.
wooohooo snake eyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did modify three modern Storm Shadow figurines into Cobra snow troopers.
Sooooo...if the o ring goes on this....that's it? The end?
Not necessarily. They can be fixed in a couple of different ways.
When the V1 storm shadow comes out in the classified line it’s selling out immediately
I didnt know they cut the articulation on the hall of fame figures. I was never into them , but how disappointing
why didnt cobra have any black people on their team?
@#$*! you guys. this Storm Shadow rules. ninja action features suck. that is all
hello Buttholes
Hi
