- This aint how grandad catfished. Today I head out in the boat and show how to use planer boards and electronics to target spawning catfish. This is a very effective technique in the spring and summer months. Hope y'all enjoy.

You should try some walleye fishing with those planer boards. Never tried targeting catfish with them, usually only walleye. Great vid as always! Keep them coming!

I really enjoyed watching this video,the fish were good size and no spots,sores just real clean pretty cats! I’ve never seen this kind of fishing but it sure looks like a winner and it’s fast and easy to do. Like you said,if you was fishing for food you would have had a good dinner lol! I like the way you explain what your doing and why you do it. You can never get enough facts and finds when it comes to catching some great fish. I run a center mast with a planer board on each and use cloths pins to hold on to the line from the rod! You can do 3 to 4 polls on each side of the boat! The plainer board never gets pulled in until your done fishing! On a good night 2 guys can limit quick!

In hot and humid midwest weather I wear very similar “designer distressed” T-shirts. Many of mine have a custom V-neck or even a more open round neck.
A few bullet holes or a shotgun blast pattern add extra ventilation.
Nice job! I fish for salmon on lake Michigan so I know how much fun and productive trolling can be. Never considered using planner boards for catfish.

How about some white bass fishing? Possibly some Muskie fishing. I’ve heard you talk about it but it sounds like you have to travel to get to them. Either way I wouldn’t mind seeing either of those.

What kind of rod and reel setup are you using?
What size line is on your reel? I just moved to Southern Alabama and I REALLY want to catch catfish. I have tried my whole adult life and I have NEVER caught a decent one. Just a couple of small cats and some bullheads. I'm learning everything your throwing out.

I've caught a surprising number of large catfish over open water while trolling for walleyes! They were targeting the same suspended shad.
