I had the same problem up here in Ohio to find the bigger spooks. So I started using the bigger EVA non -weight slip bobbers 4-5-6-7sizes drill a hole large enough to add bbs's glue hole shut add the rattles behind and there you go . The Eva bobbers are very durable not like the balsa wood and if you paint them make sure you put about 3 coats of clear coat with harder. (Katzman)
Dave, Very good and insightful videos ( The last 2 especially ) Would really like to see the Ol St. Croix classic that’s behind you back in action. ! Cheers from Montana..
Waiting... For Carl from Sling Blade to step into frame. One of your new tunes sounds like one in the movie. Thanks for taking us all along on your fishing trips!
I live on a lake that used to be famous for big cats, now anything near 40 pounds will win a tournament, sometimes a lot less. Lake record is 82 pounds, although an 88 pound flathead was noodled and released. I have never seriously fished for catfish, even though I have all the necessary equipment. I will try the rattle experiment.
Yo Dave, I need a personal response lol. Does that even keep that fat hunk of bait off the bottom..???? Looks good, but I'm super skeptical. Could you let a fellow catfish slayer know. Please and thanks 🎣
Has anyone noticed catching fish on one side of boat versus the opposite side. Ive seen it many times. Or not getting bit directly behind the boat. Ive tried rattles and demon dragons. Not much luck with either mainly just a bigger peg float. We typically pull.6 to 1.0 mph. Biggest in the boat wad 84 pound blue. Distance from the boat also matters.
I use empty medicine bottles put 5 beads in it clip a swivel on the little hole by the press tab super glue lid on. It rattles good and has a lot of floatation.
I fish in the Congaree river that feeds into lake Marion. The middle Santee Cooper lake. I’ve been using rattles for a few months and haven’t been able to tell a difference.
It's the same as using a long leader vs a short ....sometimes 1 works better than the other, but neither is considerable better than the other over time
Hi Dave 🎣🐟 sure do enjoy your videos! Must have watched about 20 in the past 2 months or so 👍 Quick question, what’s that long worm looking thing on your rig. You had it on the when you added pink ( at the 12:30 time marker in this video) rattles to the pole with the bobber that was not getting hit…
That’s the dragging weight. The bottom has the weight sewn into the tube and there is a float on top so it drags more vertically across the bottom. There’s a swivel on top.
I know for fact rattles work because when I scuba dive I take two rocks and repeatedly tap them together. Within seconds I have an audience of fish around me looking directly at the tapping.
Dave have you ever had a problem with he eyelet of the spook breaking? I have. Twice. They weren't any name brand or anything. Maybe I did something wrong.
Hey Dave, I notice when you release the catfish, you just sort of toss them into the water, and I've always heard that you just slowly release the fish back into the water to ensure less trauma to the fish. My question is, does it really matter how you do it?
Small fish means less weight. Not gonna hit water as hard. Also try to make sure the hit head first. Common sense you can dive off a bridge head first and it doesn't hurt as much as a belly flop. More common sense is if this fish came in quick it isn't wore out. If you took a long time to get it in like most bigger fish then those fish may need to be held in the water awhile before release.
Oh yeah, I live in San Antonio. Any chance you have recommendations on what river or lakes to fish here to land me a few 40-50 pounders? Just getting into catfishing and got a boat
Catfish Dave which reel is better sealine 30 or Seagate 35 I bank fish using 10ft ugly stick catfish special rods looking to upgrade a reel wondering which one would b best or if both r equal quality reels
In one of your videos you were using a drift weight with built in flotation. Can you share where you bought your drifting weights that had the built in flotation?
While in a river, you have enough current for rattles to work. In a lake, you'd have to make them rattles work with a little more speed. The fish are attracted to the vibrations from the rattles in the water.
I am trying to be Flathead Frank, but today I am Channel Catfish Frank. Lack of quality bait. But, you don't know if you don't throw. 23", 24", & a fish I dropped back in the water.
First fish left tail character...Second fish a right tail...Third was sure but might be a right tail...Fourth not sure either...The Fifth or odd looking fish is Left Tail... Sixth fish was not sure went both ways....Seventh Fish was right tail most of the time the reflex after being one is to go the other direction then back to original direction... So you have come across an idea that to be explored more!!!! So far more right than left by a few!!!! Rattle that!!!!
IF they don,t hit with out a rattle, then why is kayak catfish getting it done without them. You use to bad mouth them in previous video,s.What made you change your mind.Could it be a future profit thing for you.Proven fact cheap peg floats will float your bait higher.
Kind of a dumb comment. He's catching fish suspending. His bait is already floating. Yeah I said in video pulling at slower speed regular floats were working but pulling at higher speeds they weren't. He doesn't drag baits because he doesn't like to in a kayak. More boats on the water than kayaks and those people will drag. You can catch fish off the bank with bait sitting on bottom. What is your point.
Love when dave tries new stuff, need to write a book on all the catfishing techniques you've learned over the years
I would buy one o maybe two or three 😀
Dave is the book on catfish!
Kline
I would also enjoy his book
I like the format you have used on these last 3 videos.
I don’t know why your subscriptions aren’t over 100 thousand. You’re the best!
I totally agree!

The small rattles like that will spin as they move through the water keeping them rattling.
You could drill a hole in the spook, put steel BBs in it, and caulk it shut again.
Waiting... For Carl from Sling Blade to step into frame. One of your new tunes sounds like one in the movie. Thanks for taking us all along on your fishing trips!
drill a hole in the cheaper ones ,add BBs then reseal
Always enjoy the videos. Maci’s Fish N Finds has a larger 5” spook style rattle.
Dave, Love your bling, love your videos, and love your music as well. Bless you sir.
Thanks Professor Catfish Dave, another great class. There was fish in the video so this is a fishing video.

I aint dave but i think it still helps lift baits off the bottom as you drift
I think your Guitar intro is a plus for kick off your videos. Been enjoying your guitar and fishing for a long while. Thanks.

I like using lines without the rattles
Good job on the videos
Keep up the good work Dave
Hey Dave could you show how the rattle rig looks in the water? Just drag it alongside the boat and film it at trolling speed. Thanks
Thank you for explaining the concept of the bling bling rig.

Now this guy right here tee totally loves to shake a rattle lol..... Good show bro
Thanks for the instruction video.
Hahaha. I see what you did at the beginning of that video. That fella spends some time on lake Murray.
Awesome! Guess I’m headed to the tackle shop to buy me some rattles
I know for fact rattles work because when I scuba dive I take two rocks and repeatedly tap them together. Within seconds I have an audience of fish around me looking directly at the tapping.
Wonder what would happen if you connected 2 of the battle rattles together with a snap ring.

Dave have you ever had a problem with he eyelet of the spook breaking? I have. Twice. They weren't any name brand or anything. Maybe I did something wrong.

Prolly sounds like fish moving around in shells or rocks
I wonder if you these rattle work for sturgeon fishing?

You had some Blues going on there with your guitar. Maybe not as fast as a tempo. But kind of like an SRV sound.
Do you place the battle rattle (Head) Pointing to the Hook or the sinker?
Sinker- showed it several times in the video
@@davewatson3398 Thanks. Once I got it on the big screen and could freeze frame it, I saw it.
Do you catch flats also with rattlers ot just blues?
Don’t worry always time for some Deep River Blues!
In one of your videos you were using a drift weight with built in flotation. Can you share where you bought your drifting weights that had the built in flotation?
Hey catfish dave where do you get your pool noodle bobbers if you got a link that would be great please and thank you god bless
Nice video man 🤣
can shore fishermen use rattles?
I find the Chinese ones leak on the rattle side and rust.
Maybe a tandem battle rattle bling bling rig?
Man I wish I could go out on the water with you sometime. I actually live in the same area as you do.
Never had much luck with them. I do know baby mud cats catch huge flat heads. It is a hate thang because they rob the eggs.
what reels are u using
what kind of paint can be used

I've found that they work. Some days better than others just like any bait.
Hey Dave, what knot do you use to tie the battle rattle?
Use a bobber stopper.
