  • Planer Board DIY is the subject of this video . you can make planer boards very affordably, and theres a lot of boards out there . people have been using them since the turn of the century but I'm focusing on the cosmetic side of Planner Boards , and copying a very popular and well working board which is the Zakk Royce boards . which I highly recommend using if your not the kind of person that likes making things , I own a set and they work very well for me ,,,,but I can't knock someone off and use they're name some I personalized em , here's a link if your interested in his boards. bottomdwellers... you won't regret buying em.
    also Mr Matthew Anthony has a great video he just did on his channel about planer boards.
    he's a great and experienced fisherman , here a a link that will take you to that video

    So I came across your channel and became hooked. Pun intended. I have used or modified a bunch of your hacks to build my own fishin gear. Just finished up my 4 planner boards today. I’ve also built your drift weights and man do they work.
    I built my own PVC JUGS for catfishing as well. Thanks for the channel and all the hacks. You are a staple for me and my coworkers who love to fish.

    Great video! I am making some now, I had a hard time finding the aluminum bolts. I do like making everything so I found aluminum gutter nails (for house gutter). I smoothed the side on belt sander and threaded the end. I thank it’s going to work well.

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a lot cheaper too , you can use threaded rod , a lot ppl do . And it can be very thin because the threaded rod is stronger , but I like stuff to look good lol . Thank you for watching , and i really appreciate it when people take the time and comment it means a lot brother

When a fish hits it or it gets hung on something the one side is hooked to your line the other side is clamped onto your line by being squeezed like in between your fingers . When it gets pulled out of the clamp and floats all crazy they say it's been tripped that's the sign your hung or a fish is on it . I don’t fish with planer boards but I’m considering it. Some of the how-to videos emphasize that planers just move horizontally so that rods three and four are out to the side well rods one and two or more down the middle. While fishing in the ocean recently, they were using planer boards to dive down 15-50 feet… Is this just a different type of planer board...a diving one?
    These had substantial weight on them with no floatation on it. Is this just same name for onshore/offshore uses?

    • @FishinNStuff

      Those may be different planer boards there's several different kinds . The kind I made , I have a how to on

    • @JWD615
      @JWD615 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fishin N Stuff yeah I watch that one too. And I popped over to some ocean fishing guys to confirm that I wasn’t nuts - you can see in their designs they don’t have flotation, actually kind of the opposite. They have a big honkin weight on the boards we used & depth stamped on them - 10/15/20/etc.
      Maybe there’s a new how-to for that - horizontal planer board plus vertical planer board… You could probably even make your own lead

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great idea I would almost bet you , it wouldn't hurt the foam. But I would test a piece first . Either easy that's a great idea . I had an idea after making those , I experimented a lot making that video and epoxy doesn't hurt the foam . And it drys hard . I thought about trying it out . The reason you can't use spray paint is only because the acetone in it eats the foam pretty quick

    • @sfcmmacro
      @sfcmmacro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fishin N Stuff Two other ideas also come to mind... Closed-cell polyethylene foam (like pool noodles are made from... ) would make a really durable float material. And you could attach it with small bolts and fender washers. Of they get damaged you can replace them easily enough.
      The other material would be balsa wood attacked with bolts. And since it's wood you can put it with whatever and it also very durable.

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Balsa wood is a really good idea man , easy to get and work with , dang you need a DIY channel lol . Great job on the planer boards. I had a few questions that may come from my inexperience with planer boards. First, how far from the edge did you put the hole for the bolts? Maybe I missed that in the video. Also, what made you choose aluminum for the board material? And lastly, for the board to pull to port side, would the rounded corner need to be to the left? I've never used planer boards and I'm not about to pay $50 for one. This Carolina boy will make his own. Thanks to you.

    • @FishinNStuff
      @FishinNStuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brother thank you so much for watching , I picked Aluminium because you want a little weight on the bottom but you still want it too float , some ppl use plexiglas but you might need to add some weight , steel would be a little heavy plus it would rust . , the holes on mine are about 2 and a half inches from the front but the length of the bolt goes into that measurement, you want the angle of the line like 30 to 40 degrees different from the Aluminum so they pull away from your boat , and yes you do put the bolts on different sides , you dont have to worry about which side you cut the corner both sides are the same just put the bolts on opposite
