There's a lot of talking and convincing while the demonstrations are sloppy and inconsistent. I'd say Fang Bo is still learning to be a coach, or perhaps the coaching style in China is so different.
Anyway, I think these are the main points
A. How to avoid the flick/attack (0:00)
1) When you serve relatively short with sidespin, it's easy for an opposite hander (lefty) to make a step and flick
2) If you curve it more to the side to avoid the flick, it will bounce out and the lefty can forehand loop from outside the table
3) The solution to avoid the flick or attack, is to serve with a combination of speed and spin so that the second bounce is close to the edge. This in Belgium we call "half long" idk about rest of world. If you serve half long it's neither short (easy flick) or long (easy loop).
B. Why sidespin (5:10)
1) If you serve pure backspin with the bat ostensibly horizontal, it's easy to read the serve. If you do it slowly or high up in the air, then it's even easier. Likewise for other spins.
2) If you serve with sidespin but vary the combination sidespin+backspin with sidespin+topspin it's much harder for the opponent to read what spin it is. And if you do a faster motion and keep the ball low it's even harder.

Agreed. He is a great player but not a good coach. He is not good at teaching moves systematically.
i think eastern style of teaching is way different.. chinese style of teaching is more direct and simpler to understand.. western style tends to break it down to every movement..every phase.. which for some tends to be more harder to grasp since it has way more to think about wen performing each shot. both are not wrong.. just prefernce i think
@@joseong8273 If I understand right, it's a live stream. Heavily in conversation with audience. That's nothing to make perfect shots ongoing. The other point ("chinese style of teaching") will be, it's talking about tactic to people with TT skills. No need to show everything in a perfect way. You need to get the message.
For me, it's Social Media about tactics. Fang Bo has several channels. Some are more precise about tech skills. For me, most important would be international subtitles.
Fang Bo explanations: It requires the player had previous experience. Requires the crowd think a little bit. It is not a manual for lazy dummies.

That particular serve is easier for lefthanded players as it puts the pole of the spin into their backhand flick so one less spin to worry about.

I believe that's completely missing the point. At the start he says if you were to do a forehand pendulum serve that is more diagonal against a left handed player they can easily return it or even flick it. Therefore the solution he proposes is to serve it more to the center and less to the side so it's harder to return it when it's wide
@@zihao3227No, from what I gather he's saying if you side spin it forward it's more difficult for lefties to attack your serve. If your serve moves toward the side it's easier for them to attack.

What he said initially was how to prevent a backhand flick on an incoming serve. Then also how to prevent a side spin loop on incoming serve. Especially when playing against a lefty for a right handed player.

Who is Fang Bo? The name sounds familiar
Fang Bo was a Chinese national team player, he became runner-up world champion in 2015 (he beat Zhang Jike in the semis and lost to Ma Long in the final).
@@tehtsbhe defeated injured ZJK in this WTTC. However, Fang Bo proved his valeu in many ocasions. He was a king without crown. Much more reliable than Lin Gaoyuan. Definitely he was not a team B in China. His level always pushed UP the level of ML ZJK XX and FZD.
