  • Instead of getting a rental car, Jen, Gus and I picked up this 1962 Ford Econoline in Surprise, Arizona. Let's see what kind of work "Gail The Snail" needs to safely make a trip down to Tucson for the Duct Tape Drags.
‪@jennifersugint‬ also did a video on this van and learning stick. Check it out here: • Can I Drive The Manual...

That tire guy is a real jerk. You buy a tire from the man and he wants to charge you $20 a piece to remove the lug nuts. His interpersonal skills need a lot of work. Treating a one time customer like that makes them a permanent one time customer.

I thought she cleaned it? Is that how she cleans?

U do sweat more in dry clima than a moist, but It may not feel like you are sweating as much. The reason is your sweat evaporates much faster in a dry climate.

When you pulled that match book out from the floor and it read Pearsonville Ca. Magpie on that was a shock because i lived in Pearsonville from 1980 to 1983 and i used to work in Mom and Pop's cafe part time and also held a job in Ridgecrest. talk about memories. when i look back i regret moving back to San Francisco.

That brings back memories. Drove one for two years in the Army. Just me and my van driving around servicing nuclear weapons as a service technician. Two things were certain: you were not going to pick up women or get a speeding ticket. Good times.

I just saw you and Jen on VGG in Gail go down the drag strip just after Lucky Costa. Freiberger obviously loved the "62 Econoline". Very cool to see you on the channels. I had to scroll back and mention it here. Love your stuff, thanks.

In the early 70s at the start of the van craze surplus Econoline vans from Bell Telephone were sold at auction in the LA area. They were green like that and had racks on top. They usually sold for around $600. There were a couple of used car lots that specialized in customizing them. Usually a cheap paint job, paneling and carpet. They would sell them for around $1500. I wanted one bad, but $600 was out of my budget.

Setting off for a 6-8 mile bike ride right now, and I usually listen to something on my ride, this gem pops up first video, what a day, looking forward to this

That funnel bushing on the shift linkage was brilliant. That is rockstar shit right there. Well done Doctor.

As a teenager, I worked in a grocery store delivering groceries in a Ford van similar to this one. It also had a "three on the tree". Used to pretend I was a race car driver, shifting from 1st to 2nd as fast as possible. It was a blast to drive that thing.

This is “A Gem In The Rough” I am sure you will massage some life back into this vehicle Chris!

  • @big_red_machine3547

You guys are awesome. This is my favourite car show on the net. Jen is so damned cute and pretty, Gus is hilarious and you’re an absolute machine! Crazy talented and energetic- must be your puritan ancestry 💪

FWIW, Gaskgacinch is still available. The art on the front still looks like that. Its my favorite gasket adhesive. Its like rubber cement. Its not a sealant like permatex, it just keeps gaskets in place during assembly. Excellent for motorcycle side case gaskets.

Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Those van seamed to lose popularity after drivers found out that if they got into a head on collision they were the first one to the wreck.

  • @coxyofnewp

Been looking forward to this and ALL and ANY travel vids.. I think you and Jen do great travel vids.. Chris looking at any vehicles he can and Jen wanting to go in every thrift stores etc. And Gus just looking for every blade of grass he can sniff.. Makes for great videos !! Keep em coming you 3 !!

  • @Spike9803

I really like the way you go through an old vehicle before a road trip, you cover all the bases. This is smart beause you are in the desert, a break down could be real trouble.. I didn't see you guys pick up jugs of water, but I know you have them. You always want to carry a bunh of water in the desert.

It's really brilliant....not only because of the lovely dog....by the roadside repairs on old stuff is still Bering born with 95 Oktane Blood
