  • Located on the banks of the Ohio River, Bellevue was founded in 1870, on land originally granted to General James Taylor, who fought in the War of 1812.
From Bellevue's earliest days, Fairfield Avenue has been the center of the town's commerce, and today the avenue is one of Bellevue's two historic districts. The Taylor’s Daughters Historic District extends south of Fairfield Avenue to the railroad tracks and Center Street.
We tour downtown and explores the city's rich and unusual history. Bellevue Beach Park boasts a beautiful view of Cincinnati on the opposite bank. Back in the early 1900s, Queen City Beach, as it was then known, was the most popular place to spend a summer's day. The current park offers green space, a playground, and summer concerts.
Last but not least, we look at the town's reputation as a center for homing pigeon enthusiasts in the early 20th century. The pigeons were raised for races, and according to the Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky, the Bellevue aviary held government contracts for the training of pigeons for use in national emergencies.

Lived in Bellevue for my first 21 yrs. Great town to grow up in and develop friendships. I was very active at Bellevue High School. Played varsity tennis as that was the one sport Highlands could not defeat us. Such special memories growing up there. We lived on Ward Ave and had the fire/police dept in our backyard, what great neighbors. We moved when my Nana, who lived next door died. We left, but will always love Bellevue and the wonderful memories I experienced and ones shared by my Mom/Nana/family/church friends. My Mom met my Dad at Horseshoe gardens. I thought Bellevue would become a Metamora, IN, but it is far exceeding it. With all the development, I hope it can keep its small town uniqueness. The old Center Street School, the Marianne with Sunday triple features, the Chili Parlor, our wonderful St. John UC church, Sam, Sam the Ice Cream Man, playing all day in the alley, knowing Summer play was over when the street lights came on, I could go on and on with such fun memories. Thank you Bellevue!!
