He thinks he can't possibly be enough for her, despite her loving him too, so he ends up sabotaging himself. He leaves a relationship with the perfect woman because he doesn't think he deserves it. It's both beautiful and tragic.
That's a great take on it. My approach to it was that, he loved her and she was there for all the love but not returning it. So he felt like he wasn't enough meaning the "couldn't set you free" to be. So he left because he finally got to see it, but it was hurting him because he still loved her

Okay, despite all the other comments I really want to evaluate the song to show just how much it fits Destiel. 1. “I’d go to Hell and back for you” This one is obvious, considering Cas went to Hell to save Dean. Dean has “went to Hell” in attempts to bring Cas back (from Crowley, Heaven, etc) Plus how Dean refuses to leave Purgatory, a hellish place, without Cas. 2. “Worlds apart we were the same” Dean was expected to be and kind of was that perfect, obedient soldier for his dad. Cas was also the perfect, yet still slightly defective, obedient soldier of Heaven. But in new conditions they changed, both becoming more morally driven rather than driven by their controllers 3. “You wanted a soldier but it wasn’t me” Dean was meant to be Michael’s vessel, and a soldier for God/Heaven. But he just couldn’t do it. Despite this Cas remains by his side, even at troubled times he always tries to help 4. “Her halo is broken but there’s fight in her eyes” this ones a bit more vague but Cas is a fallen angel, an outcast from heaven. He is an angel, a creature meant to serve in heaven for eternity. But he’s become more humanized, and fights for the humans whom he’d fallen for. 5. “Until you came crashing down” This one is building off number 2. As I said they were obedient soldiers then were considered difficult for being driven by morals. But they have different morals. Similar, but different. For example, Cas wanted to kill the demon child but Dean didn’t Because he’d done nothing wrong. Or Dean wanting to kill Jack because he was not only powerful but the son of Lucifer, but Cas was sure Jack could do good and would save the world he’d tried to heal so many times. I could probably add more depth but I probably shouldn’t write an essay. Plus I’m not done with season 13

1. “I’d go to Hell and back for you” This one is obvious, considering Cas went to Hell to save Dean. Dean has “went to Hell” in attempts to bring Cas back (from Crowley, Heaven, etc) Plus how Dean refuses to leave Purgatory, a hellish place, without Cas.
2. “Worlds apart we were the same” Dean was expected to be and kind of was that perfect, obedient soldier for his dad. Cas was also the perfect, yet still slightly defective, obedient soldier of Heaven. But in new conditions they changed, both becoming more morally driven rather than driven by their controllers
3. “You wanted a soldier but it wasn’t me” Dean was meant to be Michael’s vessel, and a soldier for God/Heaven. But he just couldn’t do it. Despite this Cas remains by his side, even at troubled times he always tries to help
4. “Her halo is broken but there’s fight in her eyes” this ones a bit more vague but Cas is a fallen angel, an outcast from heaven. He is an angel, a creature meant to serve in heaven for eternity. But he’s become more humanized, and fights for the humans whom he’d fallen for.
5. “Until you came crashing down” This one is building off number 2. As I said they were obedient soldiers then were considered difficult for being driven by morals. But they have different morals. Similar, but different. For example, Cas wanted to kill the demon child but Dean didn’t Because he’d done nothing wrong. Or Dean wanting to kill Jack because he was not only powerful but the son of Lucifer, but Cas was sure Jack could do good and would save the world he’d tried to heal so many times.
I could probably add more depth but I probably shouldn’t write an essay. Plus I’m not done with season 13
