This sounds like the perfect song for a fallen hero or someone who saw themselves as a good person until something made them realized that they were much more darker than they originally thought but it's too late for them now. Ryan, thank you. I am a wounded vet. I have obviously not given my life, but have left a part of my body back in the army. I and others like me have sworn a sacred oath to defend with life and limb. I kept the latter. Others - hero's of a greater god - have been called on to keep the former. I thank you for your appreciation and bow my head in humble gratitude to my brothers-in-arms who have been called upon to keep the former.
I'm so scared that my own dad may one day get to the point of insanity and depression. He's been a veteran for three months now and since then he's become a completely different person. I love you, dad... you know I do.
The only thing you Can do is learn who he is now after his tours or his time in the service. He's also going through the same thing you are. If he's out of the service try to share more time with him if you can. Build, or break projects. If he isn't using liquor to cope an you aren't underage share a few beers with him. You'll learn more about the new him that way and doing these things might help him bring back some of the older version of who he was. If he was in the "sh*t" for awhile he had to remain and program into a whole different person almost to function fully. It takes time and it sucks but he'll see the effort you and your family is going to help him reacclimate to non-military life again. When you need more advice seek out some from help groups in this field or other vets that might be in the family or family friends that can help. Good luck Annie. We've had long night conversations around a glass of beer about his struggles and worries. He's doing his best and I'm so extremely proud of him, his efforts. He's 36, relatively young to have teenage kids, but he's coping with our adolescence just fine. My sister and I always make sure we give him hugs and kisses in the morning, during the day and before bedtime. This technique has been quite comforting and relaxing for him. See, he's a military doctor, so on the battlefield they put doubled responsibilities on his shoulders: fight and cure. The stories about amputated joints tossed all over the place, dead bodies instead of soldiers forever asleep in those bunker-beds... He had too much and we're absolutely aware of that. My fam is strong, I believe in us. If my parents were able to get me here from Greece at the age 22 and then make a living in a border-village before settling down in the city, they can handle this too.
My father was in the military and sailed oversees for 5 years and he refuses to talk about it. The only thing he tells me is "Im never sure how I fell about my choices, but it was for the best." And this song just makes me feel so much pain for him and I wish I could make it easier for him

Been in a lot of toxic relationships. I've never been too proud to admit my faults, that doesn't always mean I can fix them. I lost those I loved and watched a life I built fall apart around me. This song takes me back down that road and makes me recall everything.

I am a closet metal head. This song took me to places I didn't know existed. I watched my father waste away at 47 years of age. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was never the same. He started experiencing signs of dementia at such a young age. The Doctor at the Veterans hospital said he was probably exposed to something during the Vietnam War, however they did very little to help my precious father. Sadly he passed away.
We - modern humans - are very fragile from the mental point of view, so exposure or not to physical external chemicals, the same results are possible when considering the impact of mental toll he took when he was in wars. Most of them never talk about the atrocities they witness simply because their subconscious chooses to avoid voluntary remembering of those things - thus avoiding the pain. The war changes your perspectives upon life and society, it strips away all the fancy artefacts of modern society. It makes you wonder why we're doing all the things we're doing and you cannot accept anymore any of the bullshit you see around you when you're returning home (which I estimate ~80%-95% of everyday activity). That's true for all the people fighting to DEFEND their own country (that means their country got attacked and they are on their soil, defending). When being the attacker (regardless of your initial beliefs and propaganda you've been subject to - which will fade very fast when experiencing war), raise everything above to the power (2, 3, 4... depending on each person). The impact of our own body chemicals and hormones can cause very easily a mental illness of all range: schizophrenia, dementia, Alzheimer, anxiety disorder, borderline, depression - most often being hidden under alcohol or substance abuse and thus - being attributed to. May he rest in peace.

I listen to this song with my dad all the time, I love it and he’s a retired vet. I never really understood the song before, I didn’t know it was written by a vet, but I started writing a couple characters that are formerly veteran or in the case of one, a run away agent and they made me realize the songs meaning because I could now see how this was how they saw themselves.
Nothing about the military or death, but this song takes me back to better times that my mindset made into bad times. Won't ever get any time like that again, and I regret wasting it and looking into the black instead of seeing what great happiness was actually right there in front of me. I'm literally picturing a specific moment in time very clearly that should've appreciated.

I kept the latter. Others - hero's of a greater god - have been called on to keep the former. I'm so scared that my own dad may one day get to the point of insanity and depression. He's been a veteran for three months now and since then he's become a completely different person. I love you, dad... you know I do.
The only thing you Can do is learn who he is now after his tours or his time in the service. He's also going through the same thing you are. If he's out of the service try to share more time with him if you can. Build, or break projects. If he isn't using liquor to cope an you aren't underage share a few beers with him. You'll learn more about the new him that way and doing these things might help him bring back some of the older version of who he was.
If he was in the "sh*t" for awhile he had to remain and program into a whole different person almost to function fully. It takes time and it sucks but he'll see the effort you and your family is going to help him reacclimate to non-military life again. When you need more advice seek out some from help groups in this field or other vets that might be in the family or family friends that can help. Good luck Annie. I hope this doesn't seem like I'm talking out of my ass and here and that it helps!

I actually am underaged, but where I come from teenagers drink with their parents every now and then. We've had long night conversations around a glass of beer about his struggles and worries. He's doing his best and I'm so extremely proud of him, his efforts. He's 36, relatively young to have teenage kids, but he's coping with our adolescence just fine. My sister and I always make sure we give him hugs and kisses in the morning, during the day and before bedtime. This technique has been quite comforting and relaxing for him. See, he's a military doctor, so on the battlefield they put doubled responsibilities on his shoulders: fight and cure. The stories about amputated joints tossed all over the place, dead bodies instead of soldiers forever asleep in those bunker-beds... He had too much and we're absolutely aware of that.
My fam is strong, I believe in us. If my parents were able to get me here from Greece at the age 22 and then make a living in a border-village before settling down in the city, they can handle this too.

I'm not military but 5 years as a Security Contractor and now 3 years as Correctional Officer. A buddy of mine introduced me to FFDP 4 years ago when I was working a FEMA contract after Hurricane Michael and since coming back to the Department this song hits hard for me being that I'm constantly fighting with anxiety, depression, chronic-anger, insomnia and Epilepsy.

I am a closet metal head. This song took me to places I didn't know existed. I watched my father waste away at 47 years of age. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was never the same. He started experiencing signs of dementia at such a young age. The Doctor at the Veterans hospital said he was probably exposed to something during the Vietnam War, however they did very little to help my precious father. Sadly he passed away.

We - modern humans - are very fragile from the mental point of view, so exposure or not to physical external chemicals, the same results are possible when considering the impact of mental toll he took when he was in wars. Most of them never talk about the atrocities they witness simply because their subconscious chooses to avoid voluntary remembering of those things - thus avoiding the pain. The war changes your perspectives upon life and society, it strips away all the fancy artefacts of modern society. It makes you wonder why we're doing all the things we're doing and you cannot accept anymore any of the bullshit you see around you when you're returning home (which I estimate ~80%-95% of everyday activity). That's true for all the people fighting to DEFEND their own country (that means their country got attacked and they are on their soil, defending). When being the attacker (regardless of your initial beliefs and propaganda you've been subject to - which will fade very fast when experiencing war), raise everything above to the power (2, 3, 4... depending on each person). The impact of our own body chemicals and hormones can cause very easily a mental illness of all range: schizophrenia, dementia, Alzheimer, anxiety disorder, borderline, depression - most often being hidden under alcohol or substance abuse and thus - being attributed to.

Hell was made for the devil and his angels you should watch billy garham give your life to Jesus we are in the last days and Jesus loves you and he shedded blood on that cross without the shedding of blood sin cannot be forgiven and sin is very serious in the eyes of god I was depressed to and sinned for fun I had suicidal thoughts I remember in my room one night I told god that of things don't change I'm gonna kms I was sorry weak and at sometimes so weak I felt like I was dying then I remember a really good day came a day I loved so much and wanted more of so on that same day I remember saying god, I'm just gonna trust you and when you try to do something right the devil attacks you so the next day was horrible I don't wanna say how it was it was just horrible! I stayed strong BC after so long of trying to go to anything else but god they all failed me so I held on to god as the reason let me skip to now and say I started off faithless now I'm so faithful in god I started off worried for my future now I know its something gods gonna handle I'm not feeling depressed anymore the whole year of 2022 was hard but with god I made it threw! Now I learned so much and love my relationship with god I know he loves and cares for me AND HE LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU TOO! This song is awesome and it sends shivers down my spine every time that I listen to it
I listen to this song with my dad all the time, I love it and he’s a retired vet. I never really understood the song before, I didn’t know it was written by a vet, but I started writing a couple characters that are formerly veteran or in the case of one, a run away agent and they made me realize the songs meaning because I could now see how this was how they saw themselves.
Nothing about the military or death, but this song takes me back to better times that my mindset made into bad times. Won't ever get any time like that again, and I regret wasting it and looking into the black instead of seeing what great happiness was actually right there in front of me. I'm literally picturing a specific moment in time very clearly that should've appreciated.
