QOTD: There are many Swampert - i wish it had Swift Swim instead of Damp. There are no more Mega evolutions and Damp is too situational to have, so just give it the ability it had as a Mega to make it more viable in VGC. Blastoise - there used to be an event one with Follow Me. They should really bring it back to it just like they did with Electivire and Magmortar. Changing it's hidden ability from Rain Dish to No Guard would also make people love using it for Hydro Pumps, wich i think should be the case. Samurott (regular) - has stats all over the place while having defensive ability that prevent crits. I have no idea why it has 108 sp.att when its signature (and most of its movepull) is physical. It is also not that fast while being kinda similar in bulk to Inteleon. I'd say remove 48 points from it's Sp.att and give 25 to its defense and 23 to it's sp.defense. Either that or change it's ability to Super Luck and give those 48 points to speed. Alternatively you could just give it Lightingrod and keep the stats the way they are just to make it a support for for rain teams who doesn't like electric moves coming towards them. "Lightingrod makes no sense"? Well explain Seaking having it then. Primarina - while it is a viable pokemon right now i still feel like Liquid Voice should follow the same example as Aerialete and Pixilate and have damage bonus. Drizzile - missed opportunity for Drizzle ability with that name. And if that change were made, Inteleon's signature move Sniper Shot should be changed to always result in a crit in similar fashion to Flower Trick of Meowscarada. They also gave Inteleon 85 physical attack in order to make people use Fell Stinger with it, but it is too situational and hard to pull off, most of the time not worth investment into physical damage so i'd say remove like 15 points from it, give 5 to speed, 5 to HP and 5 more to sp.att. Besides that Inteleon should have been made a water/ghost because it can go invisible and it could fly (glide) but flying type doesn't seem to match it well. Plus an extra STAB and immunity to fake out would help it a lot. Quaquaval - I understand that it's ment to be initially slow but that just makes people not use it in VGC. Maybe if it had slightly more bulk it would be better. Take 15 points from it's useless sp.att and give 10 to HP and 5 to sp.defense. Meganium - give it Aroma Veil and reduce it's speed while giving those points to HP and give it Quick Guard move. This way it would become reliable support for Trick Room setters preventing Taunts, Encores and Fake Outs on ally.
QOTD: Blastoise. They made it so his water attacks come out of his cannons but he's rarely used. And if any mon should have Shell Armor, it's Blastoise.
QOTD:I love Feraligatr so I pick him, but honorable mention to poor Meganium who just has never been good anywhere. Gen 2 just has so many mons that deserve more love.
I love Ryota's teams! So good! QOTD: Meganium has been mentioned a few times across the last QOTD and for good reason. For this question I would however pick Emboar. I does a lot of damage, but it's speed is on this uncanny mark of not being slow enough and yet too fast for dedicated TR.
QOTD: Meganium getting the least amount of buffs when every other starter got something is criminal. They coulda given her Triage for an ability with Floral Healing like Comfey and also priority STAB Giga Drain would be pretty awesome.
QOTD: I think Swampert got mainly left out when it comes to abilities because like, damp is garbage. So Swampert should probably get a new ability, like swift swim from its mega, or something else.
I love Reg-F because people are kinda able to play with their real teams minus Their Legendary but it's so fun to see these mons again, Never thought i'd see a Primarina in 2024😂
Hey Aaron just wanted to say thanks for showing me this team, Armorouge has been one of my favorite this gen and I thought I would have to retire in regulation F until you showed me this team.
24:10 might just be me but I think the opponent was covering for a tera grass dry trick room with 0 support. Might be that he was also thinking of an indeedee switch in plus tera grass but he likely thought that a trick room against his team of speedsters would fall in the 4 turns. I say tera grass because spinner hits grass and stomping doesn't, but stomping hits fire where spinner doesn't
Thanks for the video. Seeing more ways for Primarina to be played is interesting. It also having Alluring Voice and Psychic Noise made me want to use this pokemon more. QOTD: after Regulation D, I wanted to see more of Hisuian Samurott. Sharpness is a strong ability but not a lot of pokemon with that ability has been viable consistently. Ceaseless Edge is also a cool signature move and would have been interesting to see Spikes in VGC format. Idk if it needs a buff, it's just the format is really tough to justify it with Flutter Mane, Rillaboom, Urshifu-R being around and having other Water or Dark options for the team. At most, I guess buffs on his base speed to be higher than Urshifu and have it around base 80 or 90 SpD by moving some of its SpA stats to these stats would have been better to make it viable for teams.
Small note: +2Atk/+2SpA/+6Spd means 220BP, and x2 damage from the SpA. I doubt there is anything that can take that. That Whimsicott just did a doozy with the Beat Up. This would have to be the world's weirdest Gholdengo set, but: *+2 252+ SpA Armarouge Stored Power (220 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Gholdengo in Psychic Terrain: 146-172 (75.2 - 88.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO*
Primarina put out so much work on this video and pretty much every member of the team had their time to shine, Ryota Otsubo really makes such cohesive interesting teams and watching their strategy unfold is such a treat
QOTD: I wish blastoise were more viable. Mainly because it was my first starter back in FireRed/LeafGreen, and its Kanto partners all shined in the recent past
Glad i'm not the only one utilizing the chien pao dragapult combo this reg! I also thought okidogi looked good but had yet to try him. I like this team a lot
Meganium man. If Empoleon got a new ability, there was no reason that Meganium couldn’t have at least gotten something like Aroma Veil, Regenerator or Friend Guard.
Nah man, this guy. He’s so good. The team as well. I’ve never been a good team builder but this one looks so fun to use (when you know how to use it… which he… shows you how)
I used assault Vest primarina back in USUM online battles and it always felt pretty good. Revisiting the prim assault Vest was something I've wanted to do since finding out about all the starters coming to the game
QOTD: I really wanna see how well venasaur pairs with sun teams, however there are plenty of arguments that Lilligant might be better cause of the rise incin.
QOTD: While I had moderate success with him in Sw/Sh, with a shell smash set, I would love to see Blastoise get some love. It's probably not realistic at all, but I would love it if he could get made Water/Steel. Otherwise, changing his hidden ability to something like swift swim or steelworker
It'd be cool if Blastoise still got Follow Me - in, like, g5 or something there was an APAC-exclusive event Squirtle that had Follow Me. If Blastoise still had access to it in later generations, it could fill an interesting support niche as (functionally) the only mon with access to both Fake Out and Follow Me (Indeedee-F can learn both, but obviously Fake Out isn't great with Psychic Surge).
@@scottcrysel thats the idea. Honestly not sure in the current meta it'd even be that strong. So many fake out and priority users and faster and defensive pokemon with water or water tera Like even with fire tera, in the sun, with choice specs, modest, with max sp atk it can't OHKO max hp incin with no item. Even zero EV incin can live more than 50% of the time.
QOTD: I wish Blastoise was more viable. A lot of comments mention Meganium, which is definitely a great pick, but I feel like the commenters already "solved" Meganium. I would personally buff Blastoise by giving it Mega Launcher as its hidden ability, just like its mega. I would also expand its movepool to include the pulse moves it doesn't get, namely Heal Pulse and Terrain Pulse. I think it would give Blastoise a solid niche as a bulky Water-type or Shell Smash sweeper.
QOTD: basically all of gen 2 and 3. Meganium and Feraligator both are underwhealming (at least Typhlosion has the hisuian form which is actually decent) and gen 3 the physical special split really messed Sceptile up, and while Swampert has had niche success on its own merits, I’d love for it to be a bit more viable from its own strengths (Honestly I’d also like the Gen 1 starters to be better on their own merits instead of being propped up by gimmicks like the Megas and the gigantimax forms). Unfortunately most of those moms are held back by subpar stat distributions so they are unlikely to receive a lot of support. Meganium would be interesting if it was built to be a supportive wall with triage and maybe something nice that was signature to it; as for the others I’m unsure on how exactly I would buff them
QOTD: Decidueye is something I feel just gets outplayed a lot. It's not quite as slow as some of the other Alolan 'mons but it is still outsped by a lot. I'd move some of those Sp. Attack EV's into speed, seeing as its movepool is primarily physical anyway, and then I'd make its hidden ability something that allowed it to fill more of a niche. Adaptability to make its hits count (though could be too strong, I'm not super great at balancing), or Tinted Lens to make even the not very effective hits deal okay damage, meaning you can't get complacent with type matchups.
I'd love to see it have sniper, then change their unique moves of triple arrow and spirit shackle have higher critical rates. Or give it serene grace (but renamed) so it can guarentee critical hits when given a razor claw to hold. Bith of Decidueye's designs feel like an agile assassin, but it can't do good damage and it's in a mid/low speed tier. Too slow for normal play, too fast to heavily abuse trick room.
QOTD: While I understand the logic behind starter Pokemon not being super strong, I wish they all had a place. I usually keep my starter throughout the whole game, so I would like them to be more competitive since I already invested in them
Starter pokemon should be moderately strong throughout the entire game and be viable in VGC. Pokemon is built around a "bond with your friends" motif and your starter basically being your best friend. They shouldn't be super powered, but every starter should have atleast a niche that is viable. There's some starters that get outshined fast, even as early as early/mid game route pokemon. Chikorita is the poster child of neglected starters, dropping it as soon as possible is mechanically best.
QOTD: Sceptile. I'm currently running an Unburden mirror herb sceptile with acrobatics and a flying tera with torn using swagger to activate the mirror herb. It catches a lot of people off guard but due to Raging bolt....existing it makes it difficult. I would also look at giving Sceptile sharpness and flip the sp atk/atk stats to give it that bit more edge
QOTD: I really love skeledirge. Its torch song +1 spa was fun in earlier regulations. And it’s access to snarl + will o wisp I feel like it can really be an annoying tank that can hit hard
QOTD: Decidueye, he's the only underwhelming Alola starter. Incin speaks for himself and Primarina is a very solid; she's a special defensive wall, ridiculious base 126 special attack, and a decent HA in liquid voice. Hyper voice gets STAB and perish song becomes a water type so ghosts aren't immune, although I haven't tried it yet so IDK if ghosts are or aren't immune to normal perish song. It just seems like the owl 'mom got the short end of the stick with it's hidden ability. Long reach is flat out not useful. It should have something along the lines of hidden fist, so it hits through protect. I'd imagine the arrows being unblockable because they hit from all sides and him being a ghost type using illusionary methods to bypass protect on his other moves. So give him a buffed up "infiltrator" like ability. He so slow for a frail attacker he needs something to compensate.
I really love delphox design-wise, and while its stats aren't *bad* it's still not *great.* I don't think that it would be great in this current meta with so many strong pokemon, but with it being magical I think it would be fun to give it prankster, with some good moves that take advantage of that: Will-o-wisp, light screen, reflect, skill swap (onto amoonguss lol), encore, wish, charm, and sunny day or rain dance. It also gets access to trick room (which it becomes slightly better in with prankster since it has 104 base speed). Back in gen 6 it may have been seriously considered, as it would have been only the 3rd prankster user to get will-o-wisp, and now it would be one of those "okay on a specific team this mon is super fun"
I love Blaziken since gen 3 will always continue that love and was happy when I found out it was an Uber Pokémon but was sad when no longer in Uber after Sw/Sh but to this day I try to make a good team with it
Hey Aaron, sick team! I think in Game 2, they weren't actually going all in on indeedee swap in, I think they were expecting tera grass and were trying to knock out Armarouge regardless of tera, probably trying to deny trick room
QOTD: Chesnaught. It's in a weird spot with an awkward 64 Speed, lacking Sp. Defense as well. You can put an Assault Vest on it, but it just drops against Tornadus. It's more viable than some starters, but I wish it was better, because it's also my favorite.
15:05 TIL you can self target with priority with Psychic terrain up Man terrain is probably up there on the TMI list of things to keep track of in Pokemon, especially with contradictions like psychic, electric and grass boosting type damage, but fairy terrain halves dragon damage and isn't even called fairy terrain it's called misty (why?). Then you have to keep in mind which blocks status (and which status), which blocks priority + for some reason God's favorite terrain provides healing and reduces dmg from ground moves (but only 3 of the spread ones for some reason) + there's the extra stack of moves that have additional effects under terrain. At least you can ignore Nature + Secret Power and Camouflage 🗿
Then add in weather. While they don't interact directly with each other, the additinal effects pile up really fast. Rain boosts water and reduces fire moves. Rain dish, swift swim, and a couple of other abilities interact with it; even ones that aren't rain exclusive, like dry skin, have an interaction. Certain moves are "powered up" by rain; electroshot is a rain based solar beam (with +1), hurricane and thunder have 100% accuracy, the genies [blank]wind storms are effected by weather, etc. Sun is just a counterpart to rain for the most part. Rain gets primary water with secondary electric, and sun gets primary fire with secondary grass. Sandstorm does damage per turn unless you're rock, steel, or ground type, and gives +50% special defense to rock types. Snow (old hail) shares half of the similarities with sand and the other half with rain/sun. The +50% bonus counterpart with sandstorm but it's +50% on the physical side for ice types and shares the rain/sun boost fornice moves. It's abilities are a mix of all the other weather abilities mixed together. There's a tonne of non-unique weather effected moves too. Weather ball is the forerunner but things like moonlight, morning sun, and growth are effected by weather. Compound weather with terrains and there's a million different interactions.
QOTD: Decidueye, I think it should be faster, stronger but fragile or slower, stronger but bulkier with the stats right is not that easy to use, everything feels middle of the road. In terms of moves and abilities buff long reach it has a good effect already but make it have a 1.3 boost on projectile type of moves like spirit shackle, seed bomb, shadow ball, energy ball, etc. And make it learn more moves with that property
Since Eevee is technically a starter I am gonna use that to talk about umbreon. I feel like this pokemon has an amazing stat pool for a bulky support mon but it lacks any good moves to let it stand out. Alluring voice was a great tool that it got with the recent DLC especially since it’s a slow mon letting it get that confusion on any mon that chooses to boost their stats. It has foul play with STAB, both screens, moonlight, and some status moves. While all that is great it struggles to deal much damage on its own so it ends up just getting ignored until it’s helpless on its own. I feel like they could have added a new dark type move where you pick a pokemon to target and that pokemon has to attack the mon that used the move for 2-3 turns. Either that or give umbreon follow me because that’s the only thing it needs to really thrive.
QOTD: Blastoise should be given an ability that boosts hydro pumps dmg like Adaptability or like a modified verson of mega launcher. Its weird that hydro pump is his signature ability and yet so many other water pokemon do more dmg with it.
I'm curious as to why Pult has Cursed Body over Clear Body? I thought that clear body was always the way to go on Pult especially being banded you don't wan't to get intimidated
QOTD: I definitely feel like Sceptile should have gotten more love since it got Shed Tail, but it is still slower than Cyclizar before Unburden. That move would make it so good in VGC if it had something else going for it.
I will love to see a Blastoise or Venasaur. Blastoise with Iron Defense, Body Press , Yawn and Hidrocanon and Venasaur with Amnesia , String Shot, Leach seed and Frenzy Plant. I will like to see a Septile too with Endeavour , Quick attack , Leaf Blade and Endure.
qotd: meganium, i think it will end up being a fantastic support for tera raids, so thats something, but i do wish it could have more competitive impact. i still need to build an empoleon team (which is still one of my favs you've featured! ill prob go back and rewatch that for inspiration at some point.) i also have a team with primarina (a throat spray variant so i can run protect) and its caught SO many people off guard, absolutely fantastic mon. its been the highlight of the team for sure! quickly became my favorite mon this reg honestly.
QOTD: Typhlosion, simply because Cyndaquil is my favorite Pokémon. And idk how you'd aje it more viable. Maybe make it into an extremely bulky Pokémon that can tank hits, or a speedy one with a lot of power for OHKOs. It's such a shame because it's such a cool Pokémon with a lot of coverage in its moveset
QOTD: I think that both Sceptile, Fraligatr, and Blaziken should just get some stat redistributions, making them all more physical attackers and increasing their speed. Also giving Sceptile Sharpness.
QOTD: Sceptile is my favorite Pokémon and MAN does he need some love. I mean, She’d Tail is definitely a buff but Cyclizar just does the same thing but better. Sceptile needs more special coverage like Earth Power because of his higher special attack but lack of good special moves. Or a stat redistribution to switch its attack and special attack to make it hit harder with its good physical moves.
@@ragugod8267 Reminds me of how Inteleon works in Unite and it's pretty much one of the most broken mons atm LMAO. 2.25x Crits 100% of the time would not be a good thing for the game. Especially with Tera Water boosting it even further.
QOTD: I wish my boi Torterra was better (My favorite of all time) I would make him even slower, like one of the slowest pokemon in the game. Then just put those stats into his bulk and make him one of the best Trick Room sweepers
I had a thought: what if you made this team a little bit slower and utilized flip turn on primarina so you can pivot and activate weakness policy, and then switch to indeedee to set up terrain
QOTD: Blastoise. Give it literally any other ability and it would be a good support mon. Intimidate, water absorb, storm drain, shell armor, swift swim, sniper, inner focus, drizzle, just anything other than rain dish. So bad
I’m surprised armarouge isn’t tera psychic (Or at least grass). Seeing dragapult I immediately assumed it would u turn into tera’d armarouge, set off weak armor and weakness policy, and get a switch in to indeedee for hella expanding force dmg
QOTD: swampert, give him swift swim, his borderline useless abilities are holding him back, especially with the new terastilization feature to remove the quad grass weakness
QOTD: Swampert deserves a better hidden ability. I know swift swim has been mentioned, but I honestly this oblivious or own tempo would really solidify it into a good support spot. If we wanted to go wild, storm drain Swampert
QOTD: There are many
Swampert - i wish it had Swift Swim instead of Damp. There are no more Mega evolutions and Damp is too situational to have, so just give it the ability it had as a Mega to make it more viable in VGC.

QOTD: I feel like Meganium should have triage. Its would make him usable as a supports .
And a better move pool.
Or a signature ability that boosts it significantly in the sun
Radical red gave it triage and it can solo the elite four.
Meganium is a chunky boi so Thick Fat could be interesting too.

I used a shell smash blastoise back in series 6 of vgc in sword and shield. Water spout did crazy amounts of damage.
This why Primarina best Alola starter.
If Incin wasn't alolan I would agree with you.
Decidueye is pretty terrible.

One might say that it's quite Stellar.

Advertising Stellar Chien -Pao is quite the feat my guy ❤😅
Thanks for the upload Aaron
Idk what RNG god you had to pray to, to not run into any urshifu’s but I’d love to learn about them if you’d teach me lmao. Good video tho.
Yo that base bulk is insane the hell? I skipped the intro but until i checked i was convinced this had significant bulk investment on top of AV
That game 3 looks like it was based on a weedletwineedle team, but it's worse then what they came up with.
Got into VGC 4 days ago and just hit master ball tier with this team. Woohoo!
Congrats!
I do hope that typhosion gets an ability that makes it more viable without a choice scarf because of its middling speed but its great coverage.
Meganium would be interesting if it was built to be a supportive wall with triage and maybe something nice that was signature to it; as for the others I’m unsure on how exactly I would buff them
Decidueye needs some love. One of my favorite designed starters but just can't get going as it currently stands.
Thanks for this dude!
Those Game 5 Protects... So surprised Flutter never went for one. They probably didn't have it 😅
QOTD: While I understand the logic behind starter Pokemon not being super strong, I wish they all had a place.
Omg is this a new intro for this series? I’ll forever miss Aaron saying “as I goooooo” 😫
“One may say it’s quite stellar!”
I’m convinced that his middle name really is Cybertron at this point
Premerina is becoming people's favorite i loved it since sun and moon its so good
QOTD: Decidueye, he's the only underwhelming Alola starter.
I really love delphox design-wise, and while its stats aren't *bad* it's still not *great.*
I don't think that it would be great in this current meta with so many strong pokemon, but with it being magical I think it would be fun to give it prankster, with some good moves that take advantage of that:
Will-o-wisp, light screen, reflect, skill swap (onto amoonguss lol), encore, wish, charm, and sunny day or rain dance.
I love Blaziken since gen 3 will always continue that love and was happy when I found out it was an Uber Pokémon but was sad when no longer in Uber after Sw/Sh but to this day I try to make a good team with it
QOTD- swapert and give him storm drain or water absorb instead of damp
A neuron clicked in me when I saw Okidogi lol
I’m just creating a team with him on it 💪🏼
@@SetoFrankTTV Niceee, I’m making a team with him too.
What are the moveset choices? I’m thinking of doing something with Upperhand
Hey Aaron, sick team! I think in Game 2, they weren't actually going all in on indeedee swap in, I think they were expecting tera grass and were trying to knock out Armarouge regardless of tera, probably trying to deny trick room
I was so early it said the video was private lol.
Happy new year dude :)
You always have me at “Hey guys”
QOTD: Chesnaught. It's in a weird spot with an awkward 64 Speed, lacking Sp. Defense as well. You can put an Assault Vest on it, but it just drops against Tornadus. It's more viable than some starters, but I wish it was better, because it's also my favorite.
QOTD Torterra! My boy needs some time off the bench
It is similar to the team I am trying out on Showdown rn, Eerie Impulse into Contrary Enamous then dazzling gleams off with a defensive tera
15:05 TIL you can self target with priority with Psychic terrain up
Man terrain is probably up there on the TMI list of things to keep track of in Pokemon, especially with contradictions like psychic, electric and grass boosting type damage, but fairy terrain halves dragon damage and isn't even called fairy terrain it's called misty (why?).
51:32 Interesting interaction where the Whimsicott didn't take Rocky Helmet damage. Is Beat Up not a contact move?
QOTD: Give Typhlosion Drought!
For real.
Giving Hisuian Typhlosion Frisk also doesn’t help things.
Mf already looked like a predator, GameFreak… *whyyyyyyy?????*
PRIMA
What a tanky sweety. Love seeing cuter mons kicking ass
I will like to see a Septile too with Endeavour , Quick attack , Leaf Blade and Endure.
love the matches, now i'm jus sad to have to wait a few days for another vid lmao
Qotd: if serpereor just had more coverage move, it would be great pokemon
Like esrthpower or flamethrower
qotd: meganium, i think it will end up being a fantastic support for tera raids, so thats something, but i do wish it could have more competitive impact. i still need to build an empoleon team (which is still one of my favs you've featured! ill prob go back and rewatch that for inspiration at some point.) i also have a team with primarina (a throat spray variant so i can run protect) and its caught SO many people off guard, absolutely fantastic mon. its been the highlight of the team for sure! quickly became my favorite mon this reg honestly.
I wonder how endure would feel on Armarouge over protect, it's much less coverage but it allows you to set up easier would it not?
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too!
QOTD: I think doing tera ground choice scarf sceptile and just rock EQs with lando or incin on the pivot.
QOTD: I want Inteleon to be done justice, give it more coverage or at least make Snipe Shot always crit. Flower Trick exists.
Not with sniper as an ability
@@ragugod8267 Reminds me of how Inteleon works in Unite and it's pretty much one of the most broken mons atm LMAO.
2.25x Crits 100% of the time would not be a good thing for the game. Especially with Tera Water boosting it even further.
QOTD: I wish my boi Torterra was better (My favorite of all time) I would make him even slower, like one of the slowest pokemon in the game. Then just put those stats into his bulk and make him one of the best Trick Room sweepers
Does Chien Pao still pick up those important OHKOs with Stellar Tera if it uses Ice Spinner rather than Icicle Crash? 🤔
I had a thought: what if you made this team a little bit slower and utilized flip turn on primarina so you can pivot and activate weakness policy, and then switch to indeedee to set up terrain
that leaves armarouge vulnerable for a full turn, assuming primarina goes last
QOTD: Blastoise. Give it literally any other ability and it would be a good support mon. Intimidate, water absorb, storm drain, shell armor, swift swim, sniper, inner focus, drizzle, just anything other than rain dish. So bad
The beat up in the last game lol
I’m surprised armarouge isn’t tera psychic (Or at least grass). Seeing dragapult I immediately assumed it would u turn into tera’d armarouge, set off weak armor and weakness policy, and get a switch in to indeedee for hella expanding force dmg
I think Guard Dog should prevent flinching too to make up for the fact that it’s just a worse Defiant
