    To those saying this isn’t possible it definitely is BUT it does take a lot of time and patience. It took me roughly 4-5 hours to get all of them off and the new ones back on. I wouldn’t recommend doing this solo or at all if you aren’t very handy. Getting a short nub Phillips head screwdriver was a lifesaver for some of the screws. These screws are very tight and strip easily. Proceed with caution but it is possible!
    Thanks for the video

      U are right this shit is ruff!
      I'm in the middle of it and I stop. I still need the 2 left ones out but c if not get enough pressure to take screw out. I'm waiting for a tool to arrive from Amazon to see if that helps me out

    Very helpful, thanks for posting. I have a 2019 Grand Cherokee. The hardest part was getting the screws removed from plastic. The Dewalt wasn't all that useful getting them out because I couldn't get enough pressure on the screw head and pull the trigger at the same time. A stubby-handled screw driver was the only way. I did use the Dewalt to put the screws back in. I had to remove the horns to get room, but that was minor.

      I'm struggling with that right now.
      It's a bitch the outside ones. I cant put enough pressure on the screw to turn it. This project ain't no joke. Waiting for a tool to arrive

    Thanks for the tip on the DeWalt extension! Worked perfectly. Only thing I would add is to loosen up the bolts holding the horns in place so they can be moved out of the way just enough to get clearance for the DeWalt tool. And for any one wondering, no it is not easy to do, but it can be done without removing the whole bumper. Took me about an hour to remove all of them and reinstall the black out pieces. Thanks again for the video!

    This video was very helpful. My wife just bought a 2018 Red Velvet Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude with the black out package. I dont know why on this package everything is blacked out including the grill rings that go around the inserts. Just my grill inserts were chrome. It doesn't look right. I just swapped out the chrome inserts for the black ones and it only took me an hour without removing the bumper. I used the steps listed in this video and I did use the Dewalt Dwarf Right Angle Flex Shaft. It is tight, but you can successfully reach all of the screws on the backside of the inserts. It is 2 screws per insert. Once the 2 screws come out, the insert and the ring came right out with no effort. In this video it looked like the insert was loose but being held in place at the bottom. Mine just came right out. On mine there are two horns mounted in the open area behind the grill. I recommend removing them. They are easy to remove and gave me much more hand clearance to get the Dewalt flex shaft inside. Thanks for the helpful video !!

      Wanted to ask where you found black grill replacement parts. Want to change out my wife's as well and it's a 2018 model. I came across what says fits year model 2014-2016 but wanted to make sure. Thanks!

    you should do all the other chrome parts as well, fog light, lower front fascia, rear hatch plate.

    Hi Ray,
    I just started this process, I could not figure out how to lift the 4 silver side tabs without breaking them. Did you loosen the bottom and top silver clip and then the sides? I cant move the silver part up enough for the tabs to lift far enough over the black honeycomb to pull out.

    I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee Altitude, and the honeycomb part of the grill is chrome. I want to either plasti dip it, or buy a new all black grill and replace it. Problem is, I can't find anywhere how to remove the grill on a 2018 Grand Cherokee, only 2017 and older. Is it pretty much the same procedure?

    Well I'm stuck on the 2 left ones.
    Is hard to put enough pressure on the screw to get the screws out.
    Driving me insane! My hand is all beat up but I'm not giving up.
    Waiting for a tool in order from amazon to see if that helps me out. But who ever wants to start this project make sure u have enough patience because you are gonna go NUTS!

    Where did you get the black pieces? All the ones I’m finding are just covers

    do you have to remove the fascia to get the bigger piece out? not the ring...my gf just got a 17 and her grill is exactly opposite of yours...black rings with chrome rectangle part. thanks!

      jvandy50 Yes you would have to remove the bumper.

    Did you paint the chrome rings with plasti dip, or did you get black rings from an aftermarket?

    • @Ray-nf9cn
      @Ray-nf9cn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jazy4718 I wrapped them with gloss black vinyl wrap

      Ray I know it’s 2 years later but was it hard wrapping them and what kind of roll size did you get?

    • @andersonrains
      @andersonrains 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Edgar H252 I used aftermarket black rings from Amazon. Were $70 and worked/look great. Saves you the trouble of messing with the vinyl wrap for a few extra bucks

    This does not work. Not only will reaching the ends be impossible. Those rings are a problem getting off WITH the bumper off never the less the way you’re doing it. Unless you’re breaking tabs left & right

    • @a.d.d.airgunner3530
      @a.d.d.airgunner3530 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      angelo I disagree with you sir! I used the same technique mentioned in the video and I was able to get all 7 chrome grill pieces out and replaced with the blacked out version. It took a little time and finesse but you can do it without removing the whole bumper.

  • @russelldornhecker4054
    @russelldornhecker4054 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    THIS DOES NOT WORK! You can get the middle one or two off but towards the ends, there isn’t enough room to get the dewalt tool in to remove the screws.

      take off the bumper

      Worked great for me. Not sure what you are talking about there not being enough room. Yes it is a tight fit, but you can get the tool behind every screw. Just takes a little time and finesse.

      I'm waiting for a different tool I order from Amazon.
      Comes tomorrow and hope I can finish this last left 2 that I cant get enough pressure to get out
