    Hey hey Sudsers, so a few things! First, because I'm not a "real channel" yet, I don't have a community tab, which makes the giveaway for a $500 box of soapy love thing tough. So here's what we are gonna do. There's a link below to my "discussion" tab - you can use that link on your computer and add your comment to the giveaway thread. Or you can comment on this specific video (like your favorite color or smell or book or video game or something equally random) and I'll add you to the giveaway list. Either way.
    / @mrssoapandclay
    To the soap we are making today, I get froggy. Because I'm tired of cold process soap makers acting like they're fancier than M&P soap makers. So we are making an all natural melt and pour base from scratch. Recipe in the video. Let's take our hats off to the MP soap makers and the hot process soap makers of the world.

      Jasmine & Rose & Gardenia...all the colors.... favorite books as a kid: Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. As an adult... I mostly read articles. I haven’t gotten into a good book in ages. I need to though.

      My favorite colors are teal/aqua, and purple. But I cannot pick a favorite book because I read too much and end up liking a lot and then I can’t narrow it down to a single one or even a few. Same for movies, and songs. I just enjoy!😊
      And Congrats on hitting 500 subs! 🎉

    I'll admit I thought M&P was the cheater, lame way to make soaps.... until I tried to use it for some designs that aren't possible with regular HP or CP. That stuff isn't cheater. In many ways, it can be the hardest to do. So, sorry to all the M&P peeps. I judged you prematurely & wrongly. Respect.

    Thank you for supporting melt and pour!! To be honest I started off making cold process but realized that because I was a beginner and due to my apartment being so small I couldn’t carry all of bulk oils etc. The pre-packaged oils are great but when you are starting off and you make 10 bars it’s so hard to sell. So I switched to melt and pour and I found more success and was able to give custom orders faster etc. Plus for me this is a second job/hobby that I hope turns into a full-time gig but for now it’s just for extra money to help pay medical expenses and bring some creativity back into my life since I hurt my back 2 years ago and suffered permanent nerve damage. So I can’t really do dancing in musicals anymore but I can make soap!

      Re any fragrance. The fact that you are adding fragrance, herbally infused oil and or essential oils AFTER any cooking, does this mean that the beneficial properties and fragrance survive better than otherwise (in CP and HP)?

The only golden rule I've ever known was that ....there must be lye to make real soap. By the way...clay soaps are the absolute best in my opinion

      Thanks for watching! I actually left all of the soaping forums years ago because of the division, misinformation, and judgmental stuff because that’s not how I want to see soaping. I rejoined all of these things when I started to TH-cam channel to see what soapers were struggling with so I could provide some videos that would help, and I was bummed to see that all of the same drama still exists. And yes, clay soaps rock!! ❤️

    • @MrsSoapAndClay

    I love melt and pour. I made soaps many years ago and it was all mnp and people loved it. I now make cold process but I have some people that only want goats milk mmp so I like to make people happy. I also see many talented mnp soap makers that make gorgeous soaps and it is major talent to make mnp look like they do. I would die for the patience they have. It’s an art. I like your recipe and I’ll have to make some time in my non busy quarantined schedule and make some! I have a couple of stick blenders I don’t care for so why not? Btw, I laughed when you mentioned being froggy. Sometimes I tell my husband, I’m feeling froggy. Just giving you some warning!

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So like 6 years ago, I was vending a Ren Faire and another soaper had a booth set up. I like going around and meeting the other vendors, especially the soapers, so I wandered into her booth and was checking out these beautiful soaps that she had clearly put so much time and effort and creativity into. And she looked at me, like apologetically, and said “it’s just melt and pour.” It’s NOT just melt and pour; it’s artistry. And unique. And still soap, and a soap that will make every customer’s skin feel wildly better than whatever detergent bar you can pick up at the grocery store. Her craft was valuable and she should be proud of what she created. So I only ever get froggy in the soaping world for two reasons: perpetuating false info without any scientific backing, or belittling other soapers because their methods don’t look like your methods. So whenever I drop videos like this, it’s because I’ve read too much bullshit on a forum and need to purge myself of the toxicity I consumed. 😂

She was making melt and pour soaps and people loved them, but her sources started sending bad quality products. She also has 2 small children and doesn't want to mess with lye. Is there a way to make it using a cold process method? I got to the very last step, I added the glycerin which made the soap seas but I think that’s just because it was cold it seem to calm down. But there’s a skin on top of solidified soap whenever I mix it. Any idea what I might’ve done wrong?

    The only time I had a problem with melt and pour soaper was when she insisted her soap was better than the other soaper(I was not a vendor) at a craft fair because her soap didn’t contain lye.

    Melt and pour is not easy. I might venture into that art at some point, but having tried it a few times I will leave it to the MP masters for now. Well.... I'll do easier MP stuff. Mostly cause I think it's way cool to be able to make my own bases. There's other reasons. I love clear soap too. But I will mostly stick to all the other soaps cause MP is a little intimidating for me to do a lot of stuff with.

    Can you substitute any butters and clay you want? Wondering how far I can experiment with my soap base for my shampoo bars. One lady also recommended using arrowroot as well. What are your thoughts on that?

    I tried this recipe yesterday and it turned into a gooey sticky loaf like a sticky fudge 🤣 Do you think that I did not cook it long enough? Or I did not "beat it into submission" long enough? Or cooked it too hot/cold with the glycerin after it turned into a paste? I really like the butters in this recipe and would love to make it work...

      Hey! Glycerin dew can be a pain! Try decreasing the amount of glycerin next time or adding more clays or powders to the base.

      Brigid thinks castor oil and olive oil are the causes of glycerin dew. Brigid should not attempt soap until she learns some basic principles.

    Is it wrong that I prefer making hot process over cold process? I watched your fluid HP wine video and ever since then I've been doing a 70/30 split of the liquids and I'm now able to make a batch of soap in 20 or so minutes. So thanks again for the advice of splitting the liquid.

    So to make this a clear melt and pour we just need to add propylene glycol? When do we add it? I would love to do this because I tend to use more clear melt and pour then the white. Also thank you for showing us this.

      I am wondering the same thing! I am trying to extract the recipe she uses from this video, but it isn't clear how much olive oil vs castor oil she is using. So far I have that she is using 30% Coconut Oil, 12% Mango Butter, 12% Shea Butter, 12% Cocoa Butter, 1.5% (tiny) Candelilla Wax /Beeswax, and then that leaves 33% of the recipe is....some mixture of Olive Oil and Castor Oil. @MrsSoapAndClay Could you let us know the specific amounts or percentages of olive oil and castor oil in this recipe, please? Thanks for all you do!!! I really enjoy your videos.

    • @hilarielloyd1426
      @hilarielloyd1426 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I figured it out -- I'm going with the above values in my previous comment, and then 20% olive oil and 12.5% castor oil. :). I hope that sounds right!
