I strongly agreed 👍 💯 with you. I don’t even buy funko. hondo onaka is a funko pop collection and still not a huge fan of funko just don’t like the overproduction.
I only have two funko pops, a Hello Kitty Unicorn and Ghostface that I recently bought a couple of weeks ago. All of our stores are downsizing on funkos and putting them on sale for $3 or $4. I’m from southeast Louisiana by the way.
I was talking to someone the other day who has soured greatly on Funko. He was a collector for many years but has sold all but a couple of his large collection after saying Funko no longer excites him and his joy for collecting them had gone. He said they had gotten lazy (which is true to some extent) and that a lot of what came out just wasn’t great ‘like it was a few years ago’ While we talked something came out which while I can’t defend some of the things Funko has done and decisions they have made it does kind of answer some of the reasons why. We as a society worldwide (I'm UK based he is US Based) have not had something in pop culture that has gripped the world in sometime. There are 2 things we discussed that really showed this. The Marvel crazy was the 1st. During the height of Avengers (up untill Endgame really) they had a right to print money on any pop they wanted. Had that continued - had the Eternals or the Marvels been massive successes and carried on the Marvel excitment - we wouldn’t be as down on the pops they made. The last big global ‘event’ was Squid Game. But that came out of nowhere. By the time they had gotten the licence and made the pops the craze had died out and they became bargain bin pops. Will they uptick again if season 2 becomes huge maybe but don’t think it will ever quiet hit the heights of the 1st season as it was so unexpected. So while Funko has made some bad decisions and haven’t always helped themselves they are also tied in to what’s hot in pop culture. They have to plan a head so it’s hard to say what will be a hit. Cinema has hit rock bottom so that’s not helping the situation at all. Yes they can go backwards if they can get licences - the new Robocop pops are a perfect example - but unless some film or TV show becomes a world wide phenomenon again (or they get something like a Taylor Swift licence) they are handcuffed into making pops of things in the hopes that they will be the next big thing in pop culture which is part of the equation that is out of their hands. There is also something to be said that when you are running hot its very easy to do no wrong. The miniute your not everything becomes scrutinized down to every little detail. I'm not defending Funko (I'm a collector with 1.5K pops in my collection who is not as excited as I have been in the past myself) and i'm not saying this is the be all and end all of the issues within Funko but feel like its a HUGE part of it that people don't seem to want to talk about and want to just push all the blame on Funko as a company.
I'm from northern Europe, and it's gotten almost impossible to sell Pops. Over saturated market. People can't keep up. While the price of living has risen, as you mentioned. People here have an abundance of pops that they're trying to sell second hand, after months and months of having them listed for sale, they try to go half the price, and even then, people don't react and buy. Before, I used to say if you regret a purchase , you can always sell it for what you gave. But that's not true anymore. I do think that they need to make less to create a sense of urgency as you also said. No one here are willing to spend, there's always new releases which makes it impossible to buy second hand because there's not enough money. The prices for pops has risen significantly. And instead of hurrying to buy, people seem reluctant, and after a while, it turns out they had all the time in the world and get great discounts because the pops didn't sell out. Pops that you thought you'd seen the last of, suddenly goes back into production. The passion and desire has gone down, because people are drowning in a sea of Pops. Tiring even, to try to keep up. You see something you like, and the next week there's new releases you'd normally would've wanted. But the special feeling is going away for the same reason. But as people slow down, I don't believe it's wise to sell chesp. Because times will change for the better again, economically. As the desire fades, less will be produced, which in years will become desirable again. The diversity of franchises have too huge of fanbases to die out. But all the lesser franchises that they've produced, because they thought people would buy everything, probably will stay near impossible to resell. I can't describe how many pops are on sale with zero interest. I really like your take, great video.
“Funko=landfill=garbage=ET=Atari” that’s what regular (not hardcore) people think when they hear about Funkos nowadays. The subliminal association is created automatically in people’s minds. That kind of PR is damaging beyond repair.
Outstanding take ! I agree with you. I’ve always thought that over production of the lines has been the problem. Do we really need that many figures of the child holding different things? Im not as concerned about them changing the sculpts as much. but new things such as the jurrasic park dna was really cool. Well done!
I had around 300 + funko pops at one point. I sold most of them and made my money back but I still got about 100+ of them. For me , it was no longer fun hunting for certain pops plus I was running out of room to put them away. Beside they came out with way too many pops that nobody really care for.
I'm a collector of some Funko and the majority are Transformers and Marvel, Every time I see a limited edition or NFTs Funko pops of my favorite characters like Grimlock or Tracks from Transformers or anybody else from marvel is just the feel FOMO
Personally I have really slowed down on buying new pops. So many are Anime which I don't watch. They make so many commons that the just waste land them. I prefer going back to getting the old pops from 2012. I find that classic pop look so much better than the new over detailed pops
Same here. The last funko pop I got was the t-rex from the 25th jurassic park anniversary (which was a Christmas gift). But I've been collecting dice and jurassic park/world merch instead so I have not purchased any funkos since then. I have rarely seen any funko pops that I'm interested in that are in stores now, and all the ones I really want are sold out or cost hundreds of dollars.
I personally like the fact that they’re re releasing pops because to many resellers are scalping the limited chase pops especially Dragonball funkos (the main ones I collect)
@RyeThePopGuy You’re one of the few people that realized the pops are no longer going to be overproduced just like they said at the end of last year. They don’t have many pops, sitting in stock most of their exclusives sell out. The only thing I want to correct is , Funko has no final say on what is made or what variant is made. It has to be approved by the owner of the IP. That’s why you don’t get a lot of Pokémon Funko pops and as you know, the most difficult is marvel/Disney. Funko has to abide by their requirements or they will lose the license. So no one can blame Funko for bringing the same stuff out over and over again.
So I used to collect funko from 2015 till right before the pandemic. I’m 47 years old I have been collecting all kind of this kinda stuff for over 25 years. I knew Funko was going to be in trouble when toys r us was closing. When Walmart and target where going to step in the collectible market. I knew these stores with overstock product. The thing that always turned me away from Funko and why I never really liked or collected them, was the abundance of them on store shelves. Even if it was just a fresh stock, collecting them seemed pointless when a store owner could just order every single one in a catalog. Which makes them different from Pokemon cards or other collectable cards because not even the store owners knew which cards were in the wrappers. So cards were more collectable and rare. Funko should of made base models trust were open shelf and have higher class more expensive mystery boxes with very rare , limited edition or not so rare funkos, this would increase the desire to collect because collectors want the rare items, not just what anyone can buy with money at any time. They have to be hard to get as well.
It is so strange that a company that creates collectibles ( a relatively niche product) is a publicly traded company. I find that completely off kilter. Perhaps if one day Mattel can buy them out, POPs can just be brand in a very large company, like Hot Wheels, it may help them or just go back to being a private company.

I agree what you said fucker needs to pick which pops that are supposed to be flaw with the chase or an exclusive example of the two Wizard of Oz pops the fly monkey and the cow lion chase are metallic and Funko should’ve done with both of them and I said choose the characters wisely to make us pop and I hope Funko fix their mistake fully in the future and I agree a lot of pop line should get new molds
I don't understand and I think will never understand popularity of Funko Pop. Why spend money or such expressionless figure when you can buy nendoroids.
because those are much more expensive than Funko pops? You have to realize that Funko pop are one of the cheapest figurines of someone or something that you admire.
@@HyunminJung-y7q some are cheap, but I've also seen some more expensive ones. I could understand someone having 2-3 funko pops, but when I see like all walls with funko pops, and some got like 5 or more diffrent versions of same character.
dirk nowitzki funko pop is over 400$ when funko released that pop less than 5$..... Thats the difference with vintage pop and modern pop too many exclusives, stickers, limited, con con stickers etc then casually you will see that exact pop when you buy cereal and milk minor color difference and stickers literal same pop and you paid extra 200$ for it if your OTB collector who cares with that stickers. Actually thats another issue the mintness of the box basically you can literally find minter boxes with collectors because. It was designed. To. Kept that way.... Unlike Vintage pop market demands its value ......
Another person that doesn’t know what the word literally means. I’ve never seen a Funko made of J Edgar Hoover or a catheter for example. So there’s not a Funko made for “quite literally make everything”.
@jandringus There's a pop made of benjamin franklin, Donald trump, the Polaroid camera and a Pringle's can, just a few of the random selection of pops made. Who is to say there won't be an J Edgar Hoover pop? There is literally a random amount of figures made, so to correct this guy and say one figure isn't made, you have to be corrected yourself, because it hasn't been made- Yet.
I was once a big collector (only the ones i really liked), but i realized that funko just dont excite me anymore. Something about those souless eyes just seemed a little empty and a bit of a money waste. Ill admit though, i never bought pops at full price, that was my motto, so if it was cheap id get it. But now i collect actual figures of characters, which is a bit more pricy, but theres a satisfaction at seeing the details, expression, and the pose. It makes me feel happy knowing thats on my shelf cause i paid for quality (in my opinion). Though, with recent years, people on the internet have seen Funko as cheap cash grab at IPs and harassing people who buy them, which i think is uncalled for (really depends on how much youve dunked into it cause 100+ bucks for a funko? Id judge too), and i think that factors into funko being less popular
Funko sucks as a company and I look down on funko pop collectors cause it’s just a bad brand they’re lazy they don’t do what the fans want especially with fnaf and I don’t mind if someone gets a few pops of some characters they like like I have a few but to be a full on collector of pops is concerning if I had to choose between funko pop son or thot daughter I’d rather choose thot daughter cause atleast then my bloodline would continue
Edit: tbh I put funko pop collectors on the same peg as Disney adults it’s just that cringy kiddyfiedness of the pops that makes me cringe only pops I have is fye exclusive carnage , transformers shockwave , shadow the hedgehog, itachi with crows exclusive pops that look less kiddy 😭
I agree with you, I personally collect a majority of manga, scale figures, nendoroids and prize figures, but I only collect very little funko pops as a way to add more diversity into my collection or if there is a character I want that scales and prize figures don’t have
I'm a collector / flipper. I filp to make momey to buy older / more limited pops for my collection. And FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO "HATE" FLIPPERS if we all go then the 2nd hand market dies, know what happens after that? Youll be able to get all the funko pops you could ever want, and then most of you will loose the addciton to FOMO and eventually alot of people will loose intrest and the company will have to shut down
I love funko so much and I’m definitely not stopping lol 😂. I really do agree that funko pops are the affordable option of collecting. That’s why I collect them only really (specifically Marvel funko pops, with a little DC, & a tad of Disney). I can’t really spend money on other collectibles (as much as I want them. And plus I just graduated High school, heading into college lol 😅😂🫶🏽), like Hot Toys & S.H Figuarts. But I can still collect every character I love and collect the set of the whole set for the most part lol 😅😂🫶🏽! I feel like you definitely spoke for me on this topic lol 😂. Love your content and keep achieving🥹🫶🏽!!
Well Today is Friday 14th June 2024, 08: 27 am, and currently they’ve released, 2023 a whopping 13,741 unique PoP figures that have been released I don’t think there going anywhere any time soon
THANKS FOR WATCHING!

Though, with recent years, people on the internet have seen Funko as cheap cash grab at IPs and harassing people who buy them, which i think is uncalled for (really depends on how much youve dunked into it cause 100+ bucks for a funko? Id judge too), and i think that factors into funko being less popular
Short answer; No.
I think it is
Funko sucks as a company and I look down on funko pop collectors cause it’s just a bad brand they’re lazy they don’t do what the fans want especially with fnaf and I don’t mind if someone gets a few pops of some characters they like like I have a few but to be a full on collector of pops is concerning if I had to choose between funko pop son or thot daughter I’d rather choose thot daughter cause atleast then my bloodline would continue
I agree with you, I personally collect a majority of manga, scale figures, nendoroids and prize figures, but I only collect very little funko pops as a way to add more diversity into my collection or if there is a character I want that scales and prize figures don’t have
@@Color_Shardz fax they’re good for diversity but as the only part of a collection they just are off putting
Day 70 l bet my captain Rex pop that you don't have number 501
no
Finally
How am I so early
I'm a collector / flipper. I filp to make momey to buy older / more limited pops for my collection. And FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO "HATE" FLIPPERS if we all go then the 2nd hand market dies, know what happens after that? Youll be able to get all the funko pops you could ever want, and then most of you will loose the addciton to FOMO and eventually alot of people will loose intrest and the company will have to shut down
Good video! But you need to shave before I subscribe. Will you? 😊
😂 Probably not, hold out on your subscribe for now
I love funko so much and I’m definitely not stopping lol 😂.
