It is sad this maestro didn't clarify that capoeira was created by slaves as a fighting style disguised as a dance. It was only considered a criminal thing after slaves started fighting back the Portuguese.

THANK YOU!!! I was going to post the exact same thing. Mentioning words like "People" and "freedom" doesn't cut it. It's like even to this day it seems many want to hide and not fully share the origins and truth behind the Art of Capoeria. The Chinese Kung Fu Artists were literally in the environment of their roots. The Capoistas here in this video on the other hand didn't even scratch the surface of sharing the roots of their Art.

This is something I have see over and over again. Many people feel that they need to be able to do something perfectly the first time they try something. If they are not able to do it perfectly and can never imagine that they will be able to do it perfectly, then they give up and don't even try. And with TV and TH-cam showing all these people doing things to the extreme, it is easy to feel like you will never be that good. I think the better attitude is to ask yourself if you would enjoy trying to work towards a goal, even if you never achieve the most extreme example of perfection.

I read "We are incredibly proud to have been part of this!" in the video description and I felt so proud to had practice capoeira in my childhood after saw this video, to be part of it at some point after seeing the bridges that are being built between different cultures through capoeira. The capoeira as martial arts having a positive initiative to do it and being the tool to it. It's astonishing to see the connection between these two martial arts and it's incredibly beautiful to see the tenderness and warmth from practitioners of a so intense tradition-based martial arts such as Kung Fu towards this experience. An experience beautiful to see.
I feel proud to be Brazilian right now and happy to watch an aspect very important of our culture such as Capoeira being able to something so beautiful, to being able to become the driving force towards this! Thank you, guys!

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art from slaves over five hundred years ago it’s called capoeira because the jungle they went to train in was called capoeira. It is rooted in an African fighting style/dance from Angola called Ngolo. The enslaved african brought it with them to Brasil during Slavery and masked it as dance while practicing and teaching it to each other, and they used it just as their forefathers had while they were in Brasil. Over time it turned into what you now see.

Really nice video that I can relate to. I had my first experience with capoeira during an annual training weekend which my kung fu school hosted. Our teacher invites several teachers in other disciplines to give workshops. During the capoeira session we eventually felt the energy and rhythm in the capoeira circle and we were able to start expressing ourselves. Before I knew it, the Tae Kwon Do dude and I were showing off our kicks and tricks to each other. After that, we witnessed a breakdancer vs a gymnast. Best day ever!
It was after this weekend I started training with people who did capoeira, gymnastics, breakdancing, Tae Kwon Do, karate, systema, BJJ and of course (other styles of) kung fu.
My advice is: find yourself a place where people are open-minded to other disciplines, so you can explore how to fully express yourself. If anything, this video is proof that it's worth it.

That phrase is Gold
