Im a 50+ year old fly fisherman with a casting shoulder that was destroyed in an accident. 2 handed rods relieve 90% of all the grunt work, false casting, and body movment; It is an epiphany whhen you use a beulah surf rod, the proper line, and learn that push pull technique. You can keep both your elbows tucked in and still pound out huge long casts..................ALL DAY. 2 handers in the surf is totally like "why didn't I ever think of this before" moment and you'll laugh when you see guys flailing their arms around for 3 false casts that wind up hitting "maybe" 70 ft; unless youre witnessing a pro; which most of us arent. good luck. give it a shot.

You ever you pike flys in the surf, pike flys have some similar patterns to ones used for red fish.
