Brilliant work yet again. Your ride videos are on the top of my youtube subscription list. Not sure if its possible, but a collaboration with you and Jeff Lenosky (Trail Boss) would be epic! Thank you for sharing your rides.
@Dangerous Dave Did you consider doing how to videos? I'd be very interested in seeing how do you actually hop onto these logs without getting hurt or damaging your bike..what would be progression path for it etc..
Spencer’s Slabs is on “the list” to try sometime in the next couple of weeks (before the inevitable rain starts!). But I won’t be riding it anything like you. Heck, I probably won’t be “riding” at all for sections. Still looking forward to trying though!
I agree, not sure what the equipment is or settings but Dave's video's look Legit, hollywood level quality lol... wtf, would love to learn more about the setup.
Man I can only dream of riding trails like these one day. I love your style of finding creative lines :D Also, I was intrigued by how silent your freewheeling seems to be, but from your description it seems like you're using Hydras. If that's the case how on earth have you managed to have it so quiet?!
Just found your bike check video, and even tho you explained it I'm still amazed. Do you think Dumonde Tech grease would be much different from Sram butter/Slickoleum? (Currently the only thing I can get here in NZ).
Good question. I use Dumonde because it's specifically formulated for freehubs and i9 recommends it. The risk of using another grease is that it could cause the pawls to stick and cause the hub to slip
Just wanted to add, for anyone else, the Slickoleum worked, but although not thick enough to make the pawls stick, it's significantly thicker than the Dumonde, causing a lot of drag without really making it any quieter. I can't get Dumonde here in NZ but a local mechanic hooked me up with the Shimano Shadow+ Derailluer grease and what he found out was that it's just repackaged Dumonde hub grease, so it works a dream. Putting enough in behind the pawls and on the drive-ring definitely quietens it down, to the point of almost silence (with almost zero drag increase mind you!), but the downside is that it seems to slowly vent the grease through the seal into the dirty elements, causing gunk, which I believe is an intended design feature to prevent overfilling with grease. The sound slowly returns to full noise after a few rides, but is definitely worth it.
Still running Hydras. You can use grease to quiet them down so they run near silent as you can hear in the video. The hub gradually gets louder as the grease breaks down, but it takes about 10 seconds with the wheel off to regrease if you want to keep them quiet.
Hey Dave, loving your videos! I noticed you're riding DMR Vaults on this trail instead of the 5Dev pedals. Were the 5Dev pedals not working out for you?
Someone asked me whether I found the 5Dev pedals as grippy as the Vaults, so I put my Vaults back on for comparison. The 5Dev pedals are definitely grippier and have more clearance being both thinner and narrower. The Vaults have a wider stance though which offered a bit more support as my feet tend to migrate out to the edges of the pedals when descending.
@@ddangerousddave Thanks for the insight! I'm looking to upgrade my flat pedals so its nice to compare notes with other riders and get their thoughts on the equipment they've tested. I definitely notice my feet like to migrate toward the outside edges of the pedals on descents as well so maybe i'll look into a set of Vaults. Thanks again!
Dave, how do u get the view of your top wheel without sacrificing the forward view? I've tried every angle on my helmet and chest. Maybe I just need to spend more money on a camera. I've been cheap.
I mount my camera to my chin bar which improves the angle and stabilization. In terms of the camera, I use the Superview setting for the widest field of view (or you can try Hyperview if you have a Hero 11).
Hey bro, correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like there are several lines to choose from on that trail, not the usual one? I would be completely lost there. 🤙
@@specializedbighitfsr I use Dumonde Tech freehub grease. As you can tell, it makes a big difference in how loud the hub sounds. When you hear my hub, it's probably because I've been too lazy to regrease it or I'm riding in bear country :p
Commencal foam covers to stop the cables from rattling inside the frame, grease instead of oil in my I9 hub, and lots of time spent chasing and eliminating creaking noises :p
With the skills you have Dave I'm sure you could ride though a forest without a trail.
Wait there was a trail? Guess I have to watch it again. 😂
That was the trail, Dave's trail.
Didn't know you could stop at 3:00, holy sweaty palms on that one!
I'm all about stopping in sketchy places.
Díky!
Thank you so much for your support Robert! I really appreciate it.
You know it's sketchy when the GoPro view looks scary
I'm going to try another 360 camera soon and see if that does a better job at showing the steepness.
I love these chunky trails. Can you please do more
Another magic master class dangerous Dave, Love your riding & your content.👍👌🌲🌲🚵🌲🌲🏞️
Thanks Andrew!
Wow
… I never get tired of watching you ride. Wish you made more vids. I find myself checking every day for the next one. 😂

Thanks! I would love to ride with Jeff. He was one of my trials idols back in the day!
DD, always pushing the tech riding skills. Awesome seeing you continue to challenge yourself on what can easily be described as 'goat trails'. Lol
The jankier the better :p
This one was so entertaining! thanks Dave😊🤘🤟
Fun vid Dave as always, nice job on the techy make-it-up-as-you-go side bits :)
Thanks Thad!
@Dangerous Dave Did you consider doing how to videos? I'd be very interested in seeing how do you actually hop onto these logs without getting hurt or damaging your bike..what would be progression path for it etc..
On my list! I'm leaning towards testing the waters with a simple video this year then doing a full series next year.

It's pretty fun. Cool to see more trail development on Eagle. The dust is probably just as challenging as the rain these days lol.
Besides the usual great riding, what an amazing video quality. Pls do a setup tutorial. I got the hero11 and it looks much worse. congrats!
I agree, not sure what the equipment is or settings but Dave's video's look Legit, hollywood level quality lol... wtf, would love to learn more about the setup.
It's on the list! But keep in mind that my settings are only useful if you plan on doing some color correction afterwards.
@@ddangerousddave Amazing!. Thanks for answering! Have a good one

What hubs are you riding on the new bike? I thought they would be Hydras but this is eerily too quiet!

@@ddangerousddave WOW! My new bike comes with Hydras and I was a bit worried that the sound would drive me crazy, but this is silent! Thanks, Dave!
Use Dumonde tech pro x grease. Recommended by i9. Grease will increase the drag compared to oil, but it's worth it if you want to dampen the sound.
@Dangerous Dave it would be awesome if you went to bowen island and did some of the old skinny there

Another great video! Just curious, how much wear n' tear do those trails cause to a bike?
It’s a commencal bike so it’s indestructible
@@DavidFoundCo commencal bikes are known to break on the down tube. however dave doesnt go dh racing so i dont think it will be a problem
You should ride at bishop lake. Mchigan they have some crazy trails there
Have a great day Dave! If your ever in Texas let me know!!

Welcome to the channel, and thank you!
bro needs to make an asmr compilation of his best fork damping squishes please dude
Newbie question: I've heard of people say G-out before and you mention it here as well. What does it mean? Thanks!
I use it to describe an abrupt transition. That line coming off the steep rock roll into flat dirt is a perfect example :)

That line at 3:04 brave to just roll in...

Thanks Brody!
Did you change out the Hydra? Cant hear any freehub noise in this vid....Change to a Vesper?
Well nevermind...@8:07 Hydra plug....Maybe lots of freehub grease?
A small amount of grease quiets them down considerably.
Grease for quieter, oil for louder.

Curious brit here - are you not scared of bears or anything? I'd be terrified to have a bad crash then be eaten by something lol
How are you so calm riding like that?! 😅
