With all the years you've been playing and all the master pieces youv'e learned, you still enjoy those "easy" sonatas. In the end, it's all about music, nothing else...
After all it's still a Beethoven sonata, not a Czerny etude. ;) I find it fascinating how I can still find new inspiration in these performances although I've probably played these more than anything else and can still remember them after a decade of not touching them.
That’s exactly how my version sounds in my head when I’m playing! Unfortunately, the recording says otherwise. Thank you Valentina for such a majesterial performance. Off to listen to it again….
Janos Starker used to tell his students that one has to be utterly secure technically, so that nothing one would be called upon to do on one's instrument required any effort at all, and could be accomplished with complete relaxation; not until then would one be free to be a musician. If there is a better example than Lisitsa of effortless and total technical security on the piano, I haven't seen it. And with such freedom at her disposal, what a great musician she has become.
Miss valentina, it is always a pleasure to hear your performance and to be able to see your fingers fly like butterflies over piano keys! Thank you so much for sharing.
I have to thank you, because after watching a video of you practicing, I started playing again after many years of stopping after gratuating in piano in an italian accademy. You gave me the right energy to study after a deep depressive crisis. What's better than music to start living again? I owe you and I hope I can listen to you soon here in Italy. God bless you.
Back when I was a kid learning the "easy" sonatas, all I had was Kempff's recording as reference because there was no internet and all I had was my father's record collection (and since he adored Kempff, he allowed no other sonata recordings). Great to hear different interpretations these days.
This woman inspired me to start learning piano. I've watched all of her other videos (including the insanely fast ones). I'm 24 and I finally decided to buy that 88 key keyboard and got started playing and learning to read music about 6 months ago. Glad I did. Piano is a beautiful instrument and I hope to play it maybe 1/4 as good as her one day. Great videos.
Valentina, it is such a pleasure watching you play. I would enjoy your playing even if it were only audio, but the obvious joy on your face as you play makes me enjoy your performance even more.
Of all the performances I have watched. This is one of the best. I am studying this sonata right now and it is such a fun piece. You see the happy playful five year old at the piano such a joy to see that in a musician. You are so happy playing this sonata it is wonderful.
@Shenandoah Berghuis i practise 1 - 4 hours in a day i started learning piano 1 years ago but now i can play lizst chopins grand valse brillante , beethovens first sonata , i work too hard to be a famous pianist and conposer , i really love it it is my passion i m growing up too fast but i'm so perfectionist and that makes issues weird. , thank you for motivation by the way !
This is the only Beethoven sonata I have played complete, it's so funny to play I will learn one movement of one of the Beethoven sonatas, I don't know which one, because I have an audition soon. Valentina's interpretations of the sonatas will help me to have an idea and improve my interpretation. Thank you to share these wonderfull interpretations with us. I am very excited to hear the next sonata :D
A wonderful piece wonderfully played. It seems to be an old and intimate acquaintance of you, maybe from childhood, maybe from your youth. My sincere thanks.
OMG!! This was my first sonata I played and it brings me back memories:) Whenever I hear this, it reminds me of Mozart sonatas. Thank you always for your amazing music!
@T.B. Schaefer YESSSS Haydn, another genius! It is very Haydnish but I still think it feels more closer to Mozart than Haydn. But yes! It also reminds me of Haydn too!
@@ganghyunsung5412 There’s very little of either Mozart or Haydn in this ‘sonate facile’ that Beethoven threw off with barely a thought. Beethoven did not consider Opus 49 worthy of his name, nor did he want the two sonatas published (his brother sold them behind his back).
This sonata came like a fresh cool mountain breeze while the aircon was valiantly trying to overpower 38 deg C temperature and 80% humidity where i am. Your playing was so delicate, with such a sure touch that I forgot all about the bodily discomforts and was submerged in the glorious music. Thank you. Might I hope that one day you'll play all the Beethoven Bagatelles and all the Schubert Laendler? I know these are quite short pieces of moderate difficulty but sometimes the most profound ideas are expressed very simply by the great masters , giving us divine melodies. All the best from Sakuntala Basu, listening from India
This is just lovely. First: raise your hand if this is the first Beethoven Sonata you learned from start to finish 🙋🏻♂️ Second: The few sets of all 32 Sonatas I've listened to often rush through this Sonata as an inconvenience before getting to the Waldstein. Here I appreciate Valentina's taking her time and actually letting this "simple" sonata breathe. (Don't mistake me, I also can't wait for the Waldstein and the meaty sonatas to follow !! Op 101 and Op 111 🥰)
Did this piece not make it's debut in an original Warner Brothers Cartoon? Like Wagners' Valkarye, w/Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fud? Puts a rare smile on my face. 👍🎶

Absolutely nothing of Mozart - nor Haydn - in this trivial little sonate facile; perhaps at best a little in common with the sonatinas of Clementi or Kuhlau intended for beginners.
Oh shoot I recognize this Piano Sonata. The sheet music makes it look so easy. In your words Val “It looks very innocent” but once you hear it it’s deceiving. LOL 🤩
It seems to me that I have literally heard like every Beethoven song ever at some point in time. Never heard of this song, but here I am knowing what each part will sound like 😂. But still, I love your playing Valentina, and I have been watching you for many years. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Ratty Woof thanks for letting me know! I’ve only been playing piano for a decade. I know that. I just usually use them interchangeably when generalizing. But thanks anyway....
Great job as always! What do you think you’ll do next when you’re finished with this Beethoven marathon? Perhaps the Mirrors by Ravel or the Harmonies Poetiques et Religieuses by Liszt?

That's precisely my personal gripe with Lang Lang. He's so great technically but doesn't use this freedom to make the pieces sing or cry or thunder.
