      She's definitely a bonified bad ass pianist, and no doubt, one the best. However, she's still just like the rest of us...human. She made some mistakes which I was surprised to hear bc she's usually flawless, or so it seems. Well, I guess that proves that she is human lol. I don't put people on pedestals. She worked extremely hard to get where she is and I respect that even more than her extraordinary talent. I'm a talented sometiming piano player lol and I want her discipline and dedication more than her skill.

      I Can see she practised it to it got to an amazing level, but I have also been into music in many years, so a mistake, I will quickly spot and she did make them, but it’s normal. I don’t care that much abt the mistake, but I don’t thing she is playing it with that much feeling. I always had the problem with Valentina, that she makes some interesting choices in the pieces. Especially Chopins pieces. The etudes, she’s playing well, but the nocturnes has lost the feeling a bit. But to say it I love her when she’s playing Rachmaninoff, Liszt and Beethoven, because the feelings in their pieces are a bit stronger to play, with not that much feeling needed their pieces will sound amazing

      World class pianists are top notch so you'd expect to hear flawless performance i.e. Lang Lang's 3rd mov of Appassionata. Frankly speaking, asking anyone "can you do better" is ignorant and somewhat pitiful. I don't think anyone claims she plays bad, it's just that the standard for such pianists is ridiculously high so every little mistake counts. Not that it ruins the performance, but being provided with an oppoturnity to listen a perfect, flawless recording is simply a huge bonus over this.

      Of course there is no #1, but classical musicians are incomplete musicians. Jazz musicians compose and perform in simultaneity. Keith Jarrett is great at both.

    • @alexrichards2968
      @alexrichards2968 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just different kinds of musicians. Improvising is a lot like finger-painting. Composing is like painting with a fine brush. Learning to trace the musical idea of someone else's fine-brush painting with exquisite exactitude and penetrating insight is equivalent to sculpture. Of course, the visual mediums don't demand the added challenge of performance pressure.

      @JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thaliarice3891 I meant that so-called "Classical" musicians are what's incomplete, not the music itself. "Classical" simply means that the music has survived its "popular" phase; true for both what you consider "Classical" and Jazz which, in fact, is America's "Classical" music. What is "popular" today is, of course, "pop" music and rap (which is not actually music at all, since it lacks melody). I've played music since the month before Woodstock, and I play all sorts of music, including "Classical" music, Jazz, Rock, etc. Try this: Question: "how do you get a Rock guitar player to stop playing"? Answer: "put some sheet music in front of him." Question: "how do you get a Classical violinist to stop playing"? Answer: "take away her sheet music." Question: "how do you get a Jazz saxophonist to stop playing"? Answer: "play a song in only one key." Most things that are funny are so because they contain an element of truth. Rock musicians are incomplete musicians, because (most of them) can't read music. Classical musicians are incomplete musicians because (most of them) cannot improvise. Jazz musicians are complete musicians, they can do both of these things. As to "sounds like crap," to YOU, I have no doubt that this is true, but the reason is that YOUR EARS are faulty. There's nothing wrong with Jazz. People who don't understand or "get' art (any kind of art) inevitably blame THE ART, instead of laying blame where it properly belongs: on their ability to rise up to the art and be elevated by it. Can YOU take the "Jazz challenge"? For some people, Jazz is an "acquired taste." They don't "hear" it, primarily because their ears are conditioned to ONLY hear (and like) other things. In your case, your ears are conditioned to ONLY "hear" "Classical" harmonies and rhythms which, in fact are generally MUCH SIMPLER than Jazz ones. 300 year old harmony (e.g., Mozart) uses simple harmonic concepts. Beethoven introduced flat 13ths, etc., and Charlie Parker (who listened to all sorts of "Classical" music) introduced these to Jazz 80 years ago now. Now, you tell me that THIS is "exhausting crap": th-cam.com/video/G2stYKZF-d4/w-d-xo.html BTW, "Classical" musicians used to improvise, but the (then nascent) publishing industry put a stop to it. There is a movement today to get them up to speed.

    Valentina is the Glenn Gould of the distaff side of piano virtuosi - all in for creativity and not one kopek for posture. I'm still playing the adagio but without adequate technique and a professional left hand you don't stand a chance. Wonderful performance.

    I often wonder how the history books will tell her story; and, does she compose/write? She must, because of her education at the school for gifted musicians. Nonetheless, it will be a beautiful story. What an epiphany it must have been when she realized she was carving new territory, & to just step into her role & own it. We are so blessed to witness this, I almost weep to know that the creator cares for us so much. It gets sweeter & sweeter as the days go by. Um. See what God has done!

      Michael, please spare others with this religious intoxication - that lady surely plays wonderfully, thanks to years of practise, practice, practise, endless practice, and maybe a pinch of genes. No superiour bla-bla involved, just own responsibility. And she is still one of my favorites on the piano.

    There is what can be mechanistically taught and then there is the 'flow' that exists in some. Rare individuals whose abilities in performing seem to meld them and the instrument together, to produce a symbiosis which transcends time. Genius .....

    Відмінно! Зауважу, вишуканість і нюанси гри дуже важко інтерпретувати в цій дуже складній сонаті, де одночасно виражається кілька рівнів емоцій. Підсумовуючи: Дякую, Валентина!
    Excellent! I note the finesse and nuances of playing very difficult to interpret in this very complex sonata, where several levels of emotion are expressed simultaneously. In summary: Thank you Valentina!
