1973 Great song, great reaction. Guitarists Gary Moore, Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson tend to get the Lizzy plaudits but here we have their first guitarist, Eric Bell and he takes some beating on this showing. Brian Downey plays drums here
I was 13 years old and recorded this off a clock radio on a 5” reel to reel tape recorder with a hand held microphone in front of the speaker… I’d give anything to have that radio and tape recorder now. And as much as I was back then, at 67… I’m a rocker!
Two Eric Bell stories I can contribute. He said in an interview that he left Lizzy because he got tired of travelling all over Europe so they could mime to " Whiskey in the Jar" and come home. Secondly he appeared at a small club near my home town ( UK ) and before commencing with the gig, informed the audience that Rory Gallagher had died that day. An exclusive i could've done without.
As a few have mentioned, this is Eric Bell on guitar here with the original power trio incarnation of the band. Eric Bell is an interesting dude, and I urge ya'll to check out a cool song he did called Irish Boy long after he left the band.
This was the original three piece version of Thin Lizzy. After guitarist Eric Bell left he was replaced with the twin guitar duo of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham, and it was this version of Thin Lizzy that would go on to commercial success with Jailbreak in 1976.
Vagabond's of the Western World, the band's last with Eric Bell playing the guitar is one of their best and probably their most musically ambitious. I would highly recommend the title track, Little Girl in Bloom and The Hero and the Madman.
Ned from Spain saying I love seeing a new generation lovin the Lizzy ! Nearly all of it including the Boys Are Back is awesome but yeah it's kind of overused. Try " Suicide" " Chinatown" " Sugar Blues" " Bad Reputation" " Sitamoia" " Johnny the Fox / Jimmy the Weed" " It's Only Money" " Ballad of a Hard Man" and another gem from this same LP " I'm Gonna Creep Up On You " !
this was a great single when it was released in 1973 but it was sadly only a minor hit- they made another great single in 1974 called " little darlin' " which again was only a minor hit-check it out
Great reaction. Can recommend their seminal live album, one that really changed the standards of how good live recordings should be, "Live and Dangerous" (released in '78) For some later Lizzy fire, can suggest "Roisin Dubh (The Black Rose)" studio version, and "Thunder and Lightning" from an album of the same name.
Did you listen to the song, my Sarah ? It's a wonderful song .. phil wrote it about his daughter ..... we have a statue of phil in dublin he was a very proud irishman
I've had the pleasure of seeing them twice. Once with Phil and sadly once without.😇 Heroin's a Bitch🤬 I still have the "Live and Dangerous" album. Best twin guitars ever🤩🤩 They were not a three piece band.
I am also a huge Thin Lizzy fan except for The Boys are Back in Town. Even the band didn't like it and it wasn't going to make the album. But one of their managers did and so it was included at the last minute. It doesn't even have a guitar solo in it!
@@SightAfterDark I have a recommendation! (Pardon if you've covered this band before) They're a punk band. "Death" (they seem to have some Jimi Hendrix inspiration, yet have a style all their own.) the Band was started by brothers Bobby, David and Dannis Hackney. Please give them a try/listen to, perhaps do a video. Thanks again!
The greatest Irish band ever. Absolutely iconic and still have legendary status to this day. Phil was a genius 🇮🇪❤️
The age of the guitar driven jam. Eric Bell, the guitarist here, is awesome.

Thin Lizzy my favorite band of all time.
Thank you for posting this video.
You Rock
You rock Eric!

Very cool hard rock song that lives up to it's name!!
Indeed!
Great song, the vocals, the guitar and drums are fantastic and that solo is as good as it gets. Top Lizzy song for me
It’s a great one!

Thanks for sharing Russell!
I don't know how you guys make your song choices, but don't change it! Another awesome and somewhat obscure jam!
Thank our patrons on patreon! They vote on all the reactions we do :)

Thanks!
And Vagabonds itself, that song is packed.
Great Irish Rock Band....Phil Lynott was such a Legend RIP
The best Lizzie lineup before they became radio-friendly stadium rock. Eric Bell is a monster guitarist.
Absolutely!
Classic tune, early Lizzy as a three piece, brilliant 🤘🤘
You said it!

Love the OG trio Thin Lizzy with Eric Bell. Heavy prog-folk with some funk in there. Phil's storytelling elevates everything on top of it.

Please be the first to react to this, 'A Song for While I'm Away', from this record, you won't regret it!
Thanks Anne!

No guitar solo!?!? LAME
Great video you two are very cool! Try the "Nightlife" album too. Subscribed.
