it's been a few weeks but i want to issue a correction about sona in arena. unplayable isn't the right word to use. im going off of limited experience (i never play that mode cuz it sucks hahaha IN GAME ingame btw) but there seems to be very obvious scenarios where sona is pretty strong and other scenarios where shes kinda useless. i think there's a lot more to say on that topic and i want to explore it some other time, so for now feel free to ignore that part of the video and get a better idea of arena sona from here u.gg/lol/champions/arena/sona-arena-build
i'm so glad you exist. we sona mains need this very specific content that tells the truth in that sona is garbage, but also encourages us to make the best with what we have.

I call the movespeed Sona build The Need for Sona. It unironically got me into D1 and could probably carry me well beyond Masters if I optimized it.
It's still very good and VERY fun to play because people still don't understand how good movement speed is. A team that actually takes advantage of breaking the game's rules by moving fast will instantly win a game with this build.

@@lyndeine i was just gonna play the minimum number of games needed to get it by just duoing. big mistake, tanked the shit out of my MMR, so now i have to decide if i want to fix it for the plat chroma or just let it sit until i decide ranked is worth my time again. we will see.
When I started playing the game back in like season 8 (which makes me a league zoomer by some peoples standards but it's been like 6 years man why do I still play this game) I fell in love with shotgun Sona, and honestly it was the sole reason why I even stuck around playing League for more than a few weeks. I loved League (back then) and more importantly, I loved (and still do love) Sona (in a platonic way (mostly)).
AND THEN Sona Taric happened
AND THEN Sona toplane happened (mana refund was the worst era)
AND THEN Sona Lux happened
AND THEN the mini rework that didn't really help (outside of ending the mana refund era thank god) happened
and some minor nerfs in between because this is Sona we're talking about (I am realizing I should've mained wholesome kappa chungus riot approved gigachad mantheon or something as i am having a schizo rant in this youtube comment window)
the recent W buffs were cool but then again they were W buffs instead of Q buffs (Q got minor compensation nerfs which makes it even funnier) so that's kind of cringe
At this point the reason I play Sona and by extension League in general (I have found enjoyment in other champs to be fair, like Pyke or Swain but they can't be what Sona is to me, never) is just sunk cost fallacy. It's even funnier because I cling to shotgun Sona like I am a broken record or something (still enough to get me to Emerald tho lol). It's not even FUN unless the enemy runs into me and feeds me enough kills that I have Rabadons at 20 I just do it because it's a habit at that point

It was an items rework by time fault too. If Lich still had mana on it it would be viable
as fucking horrifically bad as the mana refund mechanic was i really, REALLY liked being able to Q people without vision which afaik was only around during mana refund era. it's also the only reason i ever established the habit of using sona's auras. i would almost say it was worth it but no. not worth it.
relentless hunter means i have to sacrifice my biscuits and free boots with bonus MS but my god 8 movespeed actually seems nuts. this could be the method
@@Miku16A1 Q-ing enemies without vision was a side effect of the s11 midscope iirc, not 100% sure though. It was pretty good tho and kinda sad they removed it. What I honestly miss more what got removed from Sona was resetting powerchords multiple times on wards. Like cmon Riot let me spend 200 mana to at least try to mimic a fraction of the power leona or umbral glaive abusers have
@@overlordnimonuil true but ward clear tech is BACK with lich bane (because of extra AS from spellblade) it just requires you to funnel a lot of gold into AP, for which sona's BEST ratio is 50%

I found someone else that builds Taxi Sona. Drifting through the rift with all your homies to randomly appear anywhere and 5 man gank any solo laner is too much fun. I agree with the "drag" that feels like playing Sona but she's been my main alongside Shen ever since I started so... thanks for reminding me to play Tank Sona with First Strike, heartsteel, and Bane. I don't kno why it works but it does and I can't help it. I love Sona so much

Real way to play Sona in Arena is simple actually.
As augments you need to get half mana to hp, ocean soul, or blue buff.
Then you need to get the item Talisman (Very important, save money and rolls for this and If you fail to find it try it again) and roll it until you find 2000+ mana or 2000%+ mana regen.
Then buy Seraph, Moonstone and Dawncore (Rod and zhonyas are optional If they have assasins).
If you get prismatics opt for ability haste and thats it, you get second place. (The first place is Morde, Panth/Qiyana)

I don't know if you'll see this but the whole time I was watching this all I could think about is that this splits reward skin is Sona. I haven't played ranked since season 10 but you best believe I'm getting her victorious skin and I'm pretty close to hitting plat!

istfg i watch u only bcs i play sona for the hatsune miku vibes and bcs u do aswell, so based; btw I can suggest u a semi ap semi support build on sona called race car sona which basically makes sona deal massive dmg while being fast as f. Sorc boots rush/swifties > darkseal > lich bane > ardent(to solve mana problems) > shurelya > (any optional item preferbly moonstone for more heal) > mejas. runes aery or comet doesnt matter > manaflow > celerity > gathering storm, 2nd domination cheap shot(u poke with ur e passive to proc it) > ghost poro (for some reason this works pretty well in my elo diamond lmfao(unless its pyke then gg)

I'm also a Sona player who refuses to max W and rush Moonstone (unless I want to sleep) and her constantly being pushed towards that boring playstyle by Riot removing any fun builds she gets (RIP Shotgun and RIP Shurelyas) just frankly sucks especially when like you said other champions are getting whacky changes that give them fun builds while Sona has to stay as a milquetoast W bot makes me play league a lot less then i used to, if wanted to be a pure healer i'd just pick Soraka...
I currently run a Off-tanky Enchanter build that tends to perform really well with my style (Sorc+Precision - SOFW > Archangle > Frozen Heart/Spirit Visage) but god i wish for the days where she beat the boring allegations by having insanely fun builds

I quit the game 5 years ago, and it surprises me how little Sona has changed. She seems unplayable. I remember people banning her for me not to pick her. It's interesting because league have balance changes every 2 weeks and still manages to ignore her every time. Seems like I won't be returning this season either, let's wait for the next year..

I thought Ap Sona Support was going to have a different knickname... my theorycraft build is imperial mandate and dmp (or its baby brother) as item 4, 5 or whatever. Start going for empowered W since items will slow.

Was honestly surprised to hear that sona is bad in arena when she has the 5th highest top 4 rate out of all champs at 56%, and the highest of all champs when paired with graves at 63%. Maybe the augments and items work well with her kit to make up for the lack of multiple teammates, idk.
woops. i may have written that part of the video 3 months ago and didn't check any data since then. i had a few times where good augments made up for a lot but it never seemed to make up for enough. seeing the healing other enchanters could do and the damage other mages could do made the pick seem ridiculous. but maybe i was wrong and she's actually 1v9 elo slingshot superserver hack pick, ill check on that

@@swolechic yeah i played a little bit with the build that's on u.gg and it was pretty strong, albeit boring. i still find it underwhelming compared to other champs but i definitely wouldn't call it unplayable. i'll have to issue a correction in a pinned comment or something

You get 20 gold instead if u use it on towers - champions. Also you do have insane range so u can usually proc it quite easily no point denying urself that 5 gold.
not dying is the point. q range is big but can still get you in trouble when you face opponents who know what they're doing. and you're not denying yourself 5 gold, you're delaying it - sona is a scaling champion so that's not a huge downside. i would normally agree that poking is better but the popularity of revitalize is a pretty good indicator that it isn't, and with the support item granting wards at 400 now along with better gold gains after 400 (only a difference in 2 gold for ranged champions after 400, imagine that!), it's just not worth the risk.

shurelyas got nerfed because mages were hijacking it... so why not skew it more towards enchanters? give it heal/shield power, give it back the flowing water passive, reduce the ap. shurelyas is like one of the only ways for enchanters to FEEL impactful in fight. its basically yelling CHARGEEEE lol. its just so crappy we have to build 2 items now when before they were available as one...
it really feels like enchanter itemization is constrained... we need boots and wards obviously. we need red wards so build wardstone, but also build dawncore even though wardstone doesnt grant any mana regen and youre supposed to build both of those items last! like the itemization is fighting itself lol. whats funny is those two items riot wants us to buy, support players hate! lol. dawncore is boring af and why is MANA REGEN the defining enchanter stat? after dream bubble and 2 heal items, you never run out of mana anyways! but its on literally EVERY echanter item... i dont NEED all that mana regen. the only ones who require it are literally sona and orianna. so thats 4 items of our riot approved build. whats next? shurelyas obviously. and then staff! where is the room for moonstone, helia, or mandate?? why even have all these options if we can NEVER build them? theres no room for them if we build the way riot intends for us!
And Dawncore is hella expensive for a 3rd item, but it's not viable any earlier. No Support in an equal match is going to afford two Forbidden Idols and a Blasting Wand.
I really wish Supports can upgrade their warding item to store Control Wards. It's already difficult affording them if the enemy is proactive and keeps destroying them.
@@inplane9970 dawncore is supposed to be the capstone item, but so is wardstone... So how are we supposed to build both (riot expects us to) last? And if we build both, that only gives enchanter's 2 flex items... Not to mention wardstone doesn't give any mana Regen for dawncore, but if I don't build wardstone that means I don't have any pink wards... It's a very conflicting.
