    Mad fucking respect I have been saving up for this bike for the past few months and it's nice to see someone who's just as nervous as I am get on the bike. Most reviews I've seen have been from experienced riders.

      Well man, I ended up getting a Ninja 650. I gotta be honest, I think I'd have been happy with the 400 too. it is like 90lbs lighter. I rode so much when I got it. Hit 700 miles today on it. I learned quick and tbh I know I still have a lot to go but the nervousness goes away quick and the confidence comes. My advice, as a very new rider, figure out which ride style you want, test drive at least 1 other bike design. I thought I would choose the Kawasaki Vulcan 650...I went there to get that. ended up getting a deal on a used 2012 ninja 650. Last bit of advice, get a good helmet and jacket...consider the possibility that a jacket for summer and one for fall/spring will likely be a reality depending where you live. Be safe man, you'll have a blast! FYI, the 650 is absolutely a good starter bike, just respect the clutch!

      @@716Flat4 I crashed the Vulcan S 650 while leaving the dealership. I dropped the clutch and whiskey throttled right into a truck and then into a wall. Took two months to heal up and walk without assistance. Ended up with the Ninja 400. Have just under 8000 miles on it.

    As a true beginner, I love this video. I can tell the nervousness and excitement in your voice. I'm sure I will certainly feel the same way when I ride my first bike. I also appreciate the not-at-all perfect downshift and slow down waaaay before the stop sign, which I will be doing too as a first time rider. Comparing to all other videos about Ninja 400, that the riders are so experienced and smooth, I like the roughness feeling of this video. You are much more daring than I am. I won't try to rev to the red line on a test ride. Less car on the road helps though.

    Note: I am going to go back to this dealership and ask them if I can have 5 minutes with the 400 again to do a review as a more experienced rider. When I did this video I had ZERO road miles, giving the perspective of not only a new rider but also a new rider on this motorcycle. I think I could offer better feedback about the bike and maybe include some additional notes in another video. Didn't make time to do it yet, but stay tuned, it's coming.

      I have been trying to get out there but the weather has not been playing well with my schedule. For that reason, when I go I am also going to ask them to let me test a ninja 1000. that way I can give some feedback on the 400, 650 and 1000 comparatively. I WILL find a way to get this done soon.

    Seeing you kinda struggle to shift smoothly was super helpful for me to see. It makes me really appreciate the value of that slipper clutch! I too have only ever been on a bike during the MSF course so I have no real idea about any of this bike stuff besides what I watch on TH-cam. Experienced guys like chaseontwowheels are great but they make it all seem so effortless that I forget that it won't necessarily be that smooth and easy for me when I'm riding. great vid and please post more if you actually buy it! I'm buying the same exact bike in March (it's November now). I'd love to see your journey and progression as a rider since we're basicslly starting from the same point.

    I know this video is a little old now, but I just turned 25 and It being a decent milestone I did a lot of reflecting. One of the things that’s always bothered me about myself is my ability to allow fear and anxiety to rule my life. While it has saved me a few times from feeling embarassed, saves me from being physically injured (potentially), or stopping me from feeling like I’ve failed. The biggest thing is how many times it’s prevented me from feeling like I’ve succeeded. Risk is good. I’ve done a stand out job sheltering myself from having to deal with it pretty much since I started participating in life. Being one of the most safe people ever I’ve obviously never ridden a motorcycle or even thought to drive a manual car. I decided this was my year. I rode a ninja the other day for the first time, scared the ever living shit out of me.. and it was probably the most fun I’ve had in a decade. Passed my written test, took my course. Ordered my Ninja 400. If anyone sees this 3-4 years from now thinking or even just fantasizing about it. I fantasized about doing stuff for most of my life without ever actually doing anything. Take the risk if it doesn’t pay off that’s okay, it’s alright to fail, be embarrassed, or scared. The best parts of life of are the times you take a risk and it pays off

      very well said. I am guilty of this as well and was in my 30's before I started riding. Congrats on your new bike. Remember that confidence will come to you long before the skills do, so just stay safe out there and have the time of your life friend. thanks for watching.

    To any person our there who is looking at buying a Ninja400 as their first bike I say do it. I bought a 2020 Ninja400 KRT edition as my first bike, it has been amazing and have had zero issues. You don't need 4th gear to go 45mph. I ride my 400 to the max and all I can say is take your time and learn the abilities of the bike. I found that 1st gear will get me to 55mph (not an exaggeration). So just be patient and learn how your bike acts when you ride. Enjoy your bike! Be safe out there.

    • @716Flat4
      @716Flat4  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. I won't try to sway you towards getting a bike, I wanted one for a long time but never got one until this year because I knew deep down I was not mature enough and would kill myself doing something really stupid. What I will do is advise you to go take a Motorcycle Safety class(MSF). They will put you on a bike and you will get some time on it with people who have HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of miles experience teaching you. I was nervous as all hell. In this video, I was a wreck at first in this video, looking back I was so pumped up on adrenaline it was coming out of my ears...and you can tell I was shit at shifting. The learning curve is pretty short, I mean you will feel more comfortable and safe on that bike way faster than you should lol. I ended up getting a really good deal on a 2012 Ninja 650. Totally manageable power, size and weight, comfy ride...well...better than a 600 or liter bike anyway imo. slipper clutch is not needed and neither is ABS, and I have neither...buuuuuut I DO wish I got a bike with ABS. I have locked up my rear tire a few times having to brake really hard in BAD situations or pulling into my parking space like an ass hat and the ABS would have prevented those risky situations for a new rider. The benefit of not having the ABS is I can get on any bike and know how to brake it properly after testing...a person who has only ridden an ABS may find themselves in a hi/low side real quick if they aren't careful. Let me know what you decide to to!?

    For the Nina 400 in order to keep the speed whilst taking your hand if the accelerator.. Just pull the clutch before letting off throttle in order to keep that speed. The ninja 400 has a tendency to literally just stop or slow way way down when you release that throttle.

    A couple of things: Place your shoe/boot over the peg and AGAINST the body of the bike, that is why you kept missing the shifter when changing gears. Also, I feel sorry for whomever is going to get this "play toy" bike. Only 30 plus miles and people already revving it to the red zone. The manual says not to go over 4000 rpm for the first 500 miles for proper break -in. Aside from all of these, props to you for posting this video. I also was very nervous the first time on the street after the MSF course, and kept forgetting to turn off the turning signals.

    Its interesting seeing this stuff from the perspective of just starting out. I grew up with dirt bikes and rode them on the main roads all the time when i was 13+. There were hidden trials everywhere in my city. So running from cops to avoid impound was a daily thing for me and my friends. When i first got on my ninja legally, just felt more like a relief than anything different lol.

    I’ve rode a lot of diff bikes. I bought the 400 as a commuter and I can honestly say it’s a ton of fun! Very nimble and manageable. However, I wouldn’t recommend this bike for an absolute beginner, up in the rev range it’s a little too powerful for someone who’s new to riding. Worth the money, just get some time on two wheels before you start riding this like a sport bike lol

    • @716Flat4
      @716Flat4  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually disagree. I think the 400 is perfect for new riders. It rewards a heavy hand and is very forgiving for new riders mistakes like whiskey throttling. I didn't end up getting this and got a 650 instead. I think the 650 is also a great beginner bike as well. At the end of the day, all new riders should go to the MSF and they should be able to, if they are responsible, be able to handle whatever they want. One of my buddies started on a liter bike and has never had an issue. People need to be honest with themselves. If they watch TH-cam and get excited about speeding or doing dumb stuff, they will be the ones getting scraped off the roads regardless if they ride a 250 or a 1400

    • @jsprite123
      @jsprite123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It shouldn't be too powerful if such beginner read the damn manual. It says to keep the revs to 4000 rpm for the first 500 miles. That's a bit of a distance to ride for any beginner!

      thank you for taking the time to watch! I am sniffing around. My goal is to buy that N1K or an MT10 by 2023. The problem is insurance cost for the larger bikes is still high for me. despite a 100% clean driving record. Supposedly as I keep riding without incident, the premium should drop. Once I get a quote that is reasonable, I will be looking to buy it.

Also highly recommend the advanced course the following season or after 2-4k miles. Practice often and ride frequently and within a week you will be see a lot of improvement. After a very short time the nerves will be less and you will have early confidence. Unfortunately confidence comes before skill, so when you feel that, just remember there is only a jacket between your body and a car, a pole, a curb etc. just keep learning and riding safe and you should be just fine. Ride safe!
