- Donkey Kong Country 3 is a classic SNES classic that is beloved by not quite as many people as the previous two titles in the trilogy, and it continues to delight players across the globe just as much today as it did back in 1996.
However, have you ever realized how many enemies you'd typically hurt during a single playthrough? Just because they kidnapped Donkey Kong and Diddy, it doesn't mean these poor animals deserve to be killed.
That's why today, I aim to find out if it's possible to complete the game without hurting a single enemy and what you'll need to do to achieve such a feat. Prepare for thrills, spills, but no kills as we take a trek through the Northern Kremisphere in the most saintly of ways in this pacifist run...

Fewer casualties than the previous games, perhaps due to less combat-focused level design. I really thought that Squeals on Wheels would make a bloodbath of it but I didn't know about that Warp Barrel... Between that and Murky Mill it's almost like it was planned to avoid forcing you into rat genocide.
How about Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze? More opportunity for damage boosting since you can have up to 4 hits in the normal game.

The vid is hacked. He includes the secret levels that require all the bonuses to unlock, but he avoided doing any bonuses to save kills. You'd have to kill a LOT more baddies just to unlock those last handful of levels. He totally cheated. He used two save files. Notice the bonus levels at the end are already pre-completed?
@@SilverwingStudios Bonuses are obviously impossible, no point in doing them. It's still interesting to know if the secret levels are possible.
@@legrandliseurtri7495 aye, but he doesn't say that, he says "can you complete the game?" And doesn't stipulate that those levels are impossible to get to without more kills. Peeps who don't know the game, as I suspect most won't, will assume, as implied, that this is all doable the way it's presented. It is not.

(30:17) The effect "wears off" when you pass over one of those ledges with a tire on it, but I believe the effect comes back when you pass over the next minecart, so just gain a lot of height before you pass over one of those ledges so that you can also pass over the next minecart as well.

Me: Well, considering it's somewhat easy to avoid every enemy not counting the mandatory ones, yeah, that is for the best.
Only tricky parts would really be completing Hideout Helm with no Blueprints. There would still be mandatory kills because of music switches, though.
I appreciate the Vandal Hearts music/setup at the end with the killed enemy noises, great way to end the video.

I feel like dk64 would be too easy to beat. Most enemies aren't required outside of bosses and golden banana/blueprint ones which are mostly easy to work around. I don't remember if any are required to open doors/spawn switches but the game's collision detection is so abysmal you could probably work around them.
@@mango8616 I think defeating the 3rd boss is required to beat the game, even with glitches.
@@yeeoof1995 Ahhh. Yeah i think you might be right. Unless there's some sort of wrong warp or exploit to fungi forest then you would need to kill it. Still plausible to do a no enemy run not counting bosses tho.
You should attempt this challenge with Donkey Kong Country 4 (if you have a Famicom)
And then they can cover donkey Kong 5 the journey of over time and space

I’ve said it in the previous vids, and I’ll say it here: What if there was a Pacifist Mod. With each cleared pacifist stage, less mandatory enemy deaths occur, and the bosses are handled differently.
Would the pacifist mod end the level and make you replay if you killed an enemy then?

15:10 Welp it appears you are right, given the info form the worst level in dkc3, the barrels cause lag if they are more than a few, they are more slippery than other items, they are faster than normal klaptraps and hedgehogs, and barrels sometimes don’t spawn, means it was likely changed late in development if the stage did revolve around barrels or maybe it was intended to revolve around falling blast barrels.
Actually Git, there’s still plenty of challenge to milk out of the classic DKC series without getting into DK64 or even returns or tropical freeze at all! There’s the whole Donkey Kong Land series on gameboy, which is usually thought of as just ports, but they’re actually all new games with unique levels! Although DKL2 shares the same level names and themes with DKC2, but still has different level layouts. Furthermore, there is an actual port of DKC 1 on gameboy color, as well as ports of all 3 original DKC games on GBA, so you could try those versions out too and see if they change anything in terms of saving enemies. All the Donkey Kong Land games are Super Game Boy compatible too, which is nice.
So in all the DK games he done, donkey kong country, diddy quest and this, he has killed 45 in this series so far

I Found A Way To Pass Bobbing Barrel Brawl Without Killin The Red Bee or The Warp Barrel, If You Be Quick Enough You Can Jump In The Barrel And Jump Over The Green Bee, And Leave The Water, Without The Fish Catch You, So You Use Your Damage Boost To Pass The Two Red Bees
So if DK64 is off the table, does that mean it’s Returns next?

I think I see why you couldn't do Donkey Kong 64. You can't beat the whole game without the Battle Crowns, some challenges require you to kill enemies, and even if you somehow get through it without killing enemies, then you've either used glitches or cheats.
Actually it's very easy to just glitch through the floor and skip the crown gate!!!

@@thethinker7273 just look at tas speedruns or just speedruns of those games in generals, you can just about skip anything.
Yeah, but everyone knows you can't do the whole thing legitimately, especially when you are forced to kill to progress.
@@thethinker7273 I mean, i'm not an expert but i've looked at a lot of speedruns and how they're made and such, and what makes a trick unviable for speedrun basically boils down to:
1: things in tas are too unreliable (because a proper setup hasn't been found like super mario 64 canonless or super mario sunshine gelato beach skip) Or because the risk is too high to save barely any time.
But, things like super mario carpetless have been made by humans, which was thought impossible.
2: We're doing some heavy RNG manipulation like the paper mario thousand year door manipulation, which counts the hundreds or thousands of times the rng value changes every frames.
Out of these, only the second one makes something impossible to complete legit.
There's always the controversial ocarina of time jump directly into the credit skip, where you don't even have to kill ganon to end the game.
but heh, that's another topic

I really enjoyed this trilogy of challenges. Great fun. I was going to ask if you might try this in Returns or Tropical Freeze but after hearing you reject the possibility of trying it in 64 I'm not liking the chances. Lol.
I played through most of this game a few days ago for the first time and I actually jumped between every penguin in the penguin level. I didn't want to take the risk of jumping on one and then finding out I didn't have the right amount of momentum to get on the next one

I'm assuming we're not including any enemies killed in bonus rooms to get the coins needed to reach the Lost World? Are all the bonus rooms reachable without killing further enemies? Or is there a code that we can use? I seem to remember there being one, but I don't remember it off-hand.
There actually is a code to get all bonus coins, but then it begs the question, is cheating really beating a game? same thing with those warp barrels i would say, but heh, the devs put the warps in there for everyone to use, the codes you need external knowledge for, so, *shrugs*
I'll point out to you the infinite minecart jumping in the first game craps out when you pass over or under solid ground (as there happens to be under that tire). Unless you could jump so high over the top of the screen that you're not done falling until you've cleared everything, it's not useful.
I want to say that the infinite jumping glitch comes back if you pass over another minecart before landing. I believe I remember having used the glitch to make it all the way through the second half of that stage in the past. (If I recall correctly.)

Unfortunately, I think Country Returns is just not possible to beat in pacifist, there are a lot of levels where is obligatory to kill enemies for air distance. Also, the damage busts are almost useless because you got stunned for a long time and you go straight down:(
