Can You Beat Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Without Moving Sonic?

- Sonic the hedgehog, the fastest runner in the west, east, south and any other compass directions you could possibly think of.
Famous for running around and moving fast, it's hard to imagine him standing still for a single moment.
But what if that were to change? What if he suddenly decided he weren't going to move an inch? The games would be completely impossible, right?
Well, not in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 or Sonic 3 & Knuckles if you're playing Sonic & Tails mode and a certain orange fox by his side. By using a second controller, Tails can be moved by another player. If he flies above Sonic's head, he can pick him up and carry him for as long as he can stay in the air.
Many years ago, back in the "I made too many Sonic challenges" era, the very first challenge I did was the Sonic Cripple Challenge, where I attempted to beat various acts from these games without moving Sonic at all and carrying him everywhere as Tails. Today, I decided to revive this topic...
The rules are simple. Just reach the end as many acts as possible without once touching any buttons on the first player's controller, excluding the pause button if you really need to stop for any reason. This leaves all the work to Tails. Can any acts be beaten this way? Watch the video and find out...

What I miss the most from those days is the peaceful TH-cam without all those cartoon police groups.
If I were to make a mod on this, I'd add ONE thing: making Tails capable to interact with any object Sonic can
we know Tails can do that on solo mode, so I don't really see why he shouldn't here.

@@nthgth the only restriction id make sure to add is that tails cant break open monitors containing barriers if sonic already has one, kind of a bummer to lose the barrier you have for a different one you dont want

How embarrassing must it be for Robotnik to lose to Sonic when he's just standing there doing nothing? Granted, an invincible Tails is smashing up his weapons, but it isn't like he can do much about that.

Fun fact about pulling Sonic out of the snow in Ice Cap, if I remember correctly, the S3&K Glitches and Oversights series says this makes it so Sonic literally CANNOT move, as he's supposed to regain control when he jumps out. I originally typed this paragraph right after that part, and made a comment about how I knew the rest of the act would be impossible after the looping section because of said series, but I think you just proved it wrong. Congrats!
I wonder, couldn't certain sections be made easier with shields? There's no way to get Sonic to roll into a monitor, but maybe you could carry him into checkpoint sparkles for a bonus stage? Two of the three bonus stages would probably be useless, but Tails joins you for the gumball machine one! Can't he pick up the items as well? Sure, Sonic would immediately fall, but if you can jump on the first frame of HydroCity act 1 to carry him to the top route, I wonder if it would be possible to do the same in the gumball bonus stage, so you can carry him to the side bumpers to give you enough time to get whatever shield you want.

I'm having premonitions of you struggling to go through Flying Battery Zone and Sandopolis. At least you won't have to worry about water - for some reason all the levels with water is in the Sonic 3 half of S3&K.

Could maybe do it like Mario 64's A-button challenge: If something is impossible, resort to a Sonic input, and see how low you can bring the input total across the whole game.

First off, this was incredible and a blast to watch. Second, I've love to see a similar run but instead of with out moving Sonic, the challenge is "what is the least number of times to move sonic it would take to clear Sonic 3. A video of it could just focus on the parts you got stuck at (and what comes beyond them) with an ongoing tally of the times left or right had to be pressed on sonics controller to progress.
That was surprisingly fun to watch challenge! Well done! :)

I like the idea of a game where you play as a character but the camera is focusing on another like it’s the player and you have to move the “player” around. This is kinda like that. It’s a second person game.
You know, I don't think you're gonna have much luck with Sonic 1...
Unless it's the mobile port. Even then, I don't know if it's possible to control Tails directly on mobile. lol

Without "moving"...well maybe holding up to look above (in cases where you need tails to interact with out of view objects) or down (to get more speed from slopes and breaking monotors) could be allowed for this kind of challenge
Maybe tails could even grab a crouching sonic in tighter spaces

Sonic The Hedgehog 3, but Sonic is paraplegic
Y'know, the whole video is a nice game concept: You have to transport a immobile but incredibly useful orb to safety as a drone that can only grab and transport the orb, all while the orb is the center of the camera. Maybe a metroidvania gameplay where you eventually unlock more and more upgrades both for the orb and the drone, some of them could be for example to be able to switch the camera between the drone and the orb, or make it so that the drone can destroy walls and push objects by throwing the orb at it
Can't you also do this for Sonic 1's mobile release, and Mania? 2's mobile release is out of the question because Tails gets shot down in the Tornado and doesn't come back and all

Hey Whoisthisgit, I know a little trick, you can push things you'd normally hold left or right, by just being next to it, and charging your spin dash, it's faster and looks cool, maybe the trick works at this part 46:17 ?
