Massive respect for being able to admit that you went a route that was just too difficult and turned back. Most folks would have cut that entirely out to show how easy everything was but by keeping that in you're saving some poor sod who thinks this is a jolly. Your videos are class mate and this kind of thing gives me a new found respect for ya. Keep on adventuring man

What a stunning walk, Just a tip, when using a safety system on a via ferrata, unclip one karabiner and clip in past the anchor, then unclip the second carabiner then clip it past the anchor, so you are always connected to the wire and protected from a fall. Your videos keep on getting better, fantastic work, thank you.

We had a similar humbling experience trying to get up Triglav years ago. Didn't have any of the gear, just pulling ourselves up the cables and pegs with bare hands and no helmets. We met a random British couple on the first false summit, sat together with a thousand metre drop at our backs and all realised we were way out of our depth and risking our lives. We turned round and only realised just how daft we'd been once we were looking back down the vertical walls we'd climbed up unprotected. It's a good learning experience to have had ONCE to put things in perspective!

Thank god everything went well. I am slovenian and i know for a fact each season (spring/summer) there are countless foreigners who need helicopter rescuing because of lack of proper gear, dont ever underestimate our mountains, the weather can change very fast.

If its any consolation Liam i had a wake up call the first time i went to Slovenia. I am well travelledb and a very experienced rock climber with over 58 different countries visited but Slovenia is by far the toughest hiking terrain i have come across and the level of fitness the average local possess is head and shoulders above any other nation i have come across so its no surprise the Slovenians feature at the top level in all the Olympic events. The valleys are super steep and the UK isn't even approaching a warm up compared to the mountains of Slovenia . As well as having football pitches for the kids to kick about on they also have Ski Jumping stadiums in a lot of villages where you can see kids flying through the air at night time. Slovenia is on another level indeed.

Yes, Slovenian mountains can be quite deceptive if you don't do your homework. On the map they don't look very impressive as much higher Central Alps, but they are proper mountains in every respect. According to some definitions, Triglav north face is the highest uninterrupted face in whole Alps. Of course there are faces with higher altitude, but the difference between the base of the face to the top is greater here.
True mountains, beautiful, but they demand respect.

Yes it's true what you said. Im from Slovenia, our mountains are really dangerous, every year there are victims unfortunatelly...Lot of people underesimate the difficulty. Locals knew how to prepeare yourself, a few months of regular hiking, reaserching a route, prepare an equipement, take advices from local climbing assotiations, follow weather condition, never going alone etc.etc. No joke.

Seeing your beaming grin and positive attitude, i can relate to this when doing these activities. Today everything is so rushed and digital. Escaping that and experiencing the natural beauty of the world brings out the best in everyone. Old historic landmarks, picturesque views, feeling the weather against your skin and the contrasting smells of the outdoors.
I struggled with depression and anxiety for years, locked myself away from the world. Constantly scrolling feeds searching for nothing.
Wild camping, hiking and leaving your comfort zone is liberating and recommend it to anyone having a hard time.
    Nice one mate :)

Leontopodium nivale, commonly called edelweiss, is a mountain flower belonging to the daisy or sunflower family Asteraceae. The plant prefers rocky limestone places at about 1,800-3,400 metres (5,900-11,200 ft) altitude. It is non-toxic and has been used in traditional medicine as a remedy against abdominal and respiratory diseases. It It is a scarce, short-lived flower found in remote mountain areas

it’s funny you post this, very relevant to my life oddly enough. i had a trip to the lofoten islands in norway a month ago where a similar situation happened to me like you talk about around 8:00
i let my pride and ego get me into a situation that was way more dangerous than i was prepared for. same thing, one slip, it’s over. more like low level climbing than hiking.
i had to seriously calm my nerves to get back down safely and once i made it back i was shaken up the rest of the trip thinking about how i had just stupidly risked my life. had to reassess and take a different route.
but it’s honestly a good thing. i learned a lot about how to assess a trail and what my risk tolerance was. and i now take that experience with me in the future. now i will approach nature humbly instead of with an ego and expectation.
glad you made it through the trip safely. i hope you learned a lot of good lessons also. now back to the video for me :)

You portrayed Slovenia in the most magical way, great job. I am glad to see you enjoyed it so much but please keep in mind that wild camping is illegal especially in Triglav national park. I am happy that you didn’t get fined as the fines are quite hefty, up to 1200€ if you get caught by a ranger.

I feel i moved back in time when i hiked Triglav(almost) as i managed to find the last hut in the dark.Next morning i just hoped i have enough energy to return and lack of water. It was 4 of us so 2 of us claimed the peak just with the last few drops of water. We went back through 7 lakes valley which is longer but less challenging. I remember this feeling when i was back in campsite it seemed like different place like we returned to different world. Something shifted in me after that experience. W also met on the way back a slovenian guy who was injured just at the beginning of train. He said he claimed Triglav 5 times and he knows this route very well. He didint want to go back down with us. He hurt his foot but we just couldnt convince him to return. Thats what can happen when there is too much confidence and maybe ambition. Im impressed you returned for geat the first time.😊

Well done Liam! Life’s experiences do humble us, but we learn from them! Lovely photography and commentary. Nice to hear a bit about the plants and geology! I have only driven through a bit of Slovenia, but I could see how beautiful it is! One piece of advice - take a naturalist class or do some self study of tress and flowers and birds and animals in the regions you travel in. When you know more about the nature you are seeing, it makes the experience even richer, if you can imagine! Glad you stayed safe!

    Excellent video! A few tips:
1- Inform yourself about the route before climbing a mountain. That way you are prepared and you know if you will need a via ferrata kit or not. It is a shame you couldn't climb Prisojnik in the beginning because of it and had to go back.
2- Wild camping is strictly forbidden anywhere in Slovenia. You could have got a heavy fine for it.
3- The via ferrata equipment could have been rented in the mountain hut close to it (Dom Planika or Kredarica), so you didn't need to carry it all up from the Krma valley and back again.
4- You should never unclip both carabiners at the same time, as it leaves you deattached from the steel cable and unsafe
    Cheers
