“They took everything from us. And then they called me a monster. The moment I sign that pardon, the moment I ask for one, I proclaim to the world that they were right. This ends when I grant them my forgiveness, not the other way around.”
What a way to add even more dimension to an already fascinating character. Flint is a bit of an enigma. He's very intelligent and competent, but sometimes the intelligent thing for Flint to do would be to let go of this whole Urca Gold plan and he _can't._ Up until this episode that's just a baked-in part of his personality with no observable reason for it. Now we know: He's trying to use the gold to kickstart a self-governing Nassau, and he's determined to fight and die on that hill because that plan for Nassau is the only piece of Thomas he's got left.
Couldn’t have said it better
This is the first show I have ever watched where I thought the writers were the stars of the show.
I love how whenever anyone gets to this episode, there's always shock at first... then understanding. Everyone says that it all makes sense, it all falls into place, not a completely out of the blue twist at all. Also, Tom Hopper (Billy) said in an interview this was the best episode of TV he'd ever seen... while promoting Umbrella Academy.
I love how this episode changes everything you thought you knew about Flint and about Miranda as well. The show loves to play with stories that are told about people vs. the reality of what actually happened. Flint was rejected to the core of who he was and had everything stripped away from him. He's a rage machine right now and has been since he lost Thomas. Miranda has been painted the villain by everyone when in truth all she's done is try to support the people she loved the best way she could. It's beautiful writing.
The writers got you guys so so good on this one.
Yeah it really makes you think its one type of relationship and they are hinting at it the entire time and then finally once you finally think you have it pieced together, it twists into another entirely separate love story but it’s beautiful because it makes perfect sense in the larger context of the narrative.
this show is just full of "holy shit I never would guess" moments even the relationship between Thomas, Miranda and Flint is far more complex that it seems at frist glance you just wait... this wirting is just pure blessing
It's obvious it was something they had to hide, but it's so much worse than just a scandal. The admiral saying "be grateful it didn't happen on the gallows" really means it. It was a "crime" punishable by death...
Flint's anger just makes so much sense after this episode.
Amber, your reaction to that reveal was truly beautiful. The performances of Miranda and Flint’s characters is very authentic and emotional. The writing takes this to another level. The talent on this show is top notch.
The thing with Anne is it isn't about the money. She and Jack have never been separated before so the fact that Max was chosen was a huge shock to her
I'm so happy for you guys to reach this milestone in the story. This scene makes me cry every time I see it. I'm excited to see how you will re-evaluate all the extreme decisions Flint has made, now that you know what is driving him. The writing on this show is incredible.
I’m so glad you guys remembered the book scene from season 1. There’s so many little moments prior to the reveal that set the reveal up so well
As a huge Black Sails fan, I am LOVING your reactions to this show, and this episode especially. You pick up on so many details, have a great understanding of character motivations, and make really fun predictions too. Looking forward to more :)
That means so much to us! Thank you! - Amber
yeah one of my favorite reveals!
Such a great episode and one of the greatest reveals in TV history, hard to believe this wasn't the best episode of the show or even the series. I was going to say more but I don't want to leave any hints on what is to come. Looking forward to seeing your reactions. Enjoy
Absolutely amazing episode!!! - Amber
Can’t be a season finale because the season finale is too epic 😂
🤓
The most amazing thing about this episode is that if you see it for the first time you are completely surprised with that plot twist. But when you watch the show again from the beginning you can see the clues even in the first season and it's so obvious. 😅 At least that's my own personal experience and what I've seen with every reaction video that I've seen from Black Sails. Everyone got surprised so far at the first time.
But when I watched the show with my best friend who I had told about the relationship between Thomas and James and that the writers hid it really good she asked me already in the first season how anyone could have missed that until season 2. Because she knew about the twist she wasn't fooled 😅
great reaction, can't wzit for what comes next ! amazing writing
Make sure you get yourselves copies of Treadure Island to read when you finish this series.
Definitely
Great reaction
As for Flint, it's a little more complicated than that, Flint is Bisexual so he does love Miranda as well. That will be explored more in depth later and you'll see why this wasn't the season finale. Their relationship is mirrored with Anne, Jack and Max. Anne loves them both for different reasons.
yeah this
Beautiful reaction
Im a conservative, and have heard a lot about lgbtq stuff being expressed in art, but i always use this as the perfect example of how good it can be when done correctly.
If its not forced, if its woven beautifully into the story, and the way its revealed so beautifully, the way they attach the feelings of shame into Flint,
I also got emotional when i first saw it because it truly made all those previous encounters click together masterfully
A good story is a good story, and im always amazed this show doesnt have 10x the following it does. Its spectacular
♥ how LGBT friendly & realistic this series is!
