Makes sense when you think about it. Small crash: The commentator is playing it up to keep excitement. Big crash: The commentator is genuinely worried that they might have gotten hurt or died (although its extremely rare these days). And because of that, they cant or wont play it up because of how serious the crash is.
@17:15 the wheel flying over the crowed has to be the one of the real scary things this year - at that speed it would have killed multiple people if it had gone into the seating area. Also the Truck crash just before at Brands Hatch was super lucky no crowed or marshals got hurt
I was in turn 3 about 5/8 of a mile away and you could still see the wheel go flying. If social media is good for one thing, it spread the good news that no one was hurt very quickly. As for the trucks, you can see extra fencing and even marker boards connected with tape that keep spectators about 10 meters further back than where they normally watch for exactly the reason of trucks and debris travelling further in an accident.
Normally when I'm watching a race live and see a big crash these days I don't particularly make a big deal of it. I probably wince a little and that's about it. When I saw that tire launch over the fence however I freaked out, I was barely even paying attention to the actual crash at that point. The only time I've had a similar reaction was Grosjean in Bahrain 2020.

Seriously that tire that launched over the fence at the Indy 500 was one of the scariest things I've ever witnessed on live TV. When I'm watching live motorsport these days, unless it's bike racing, not much bothers me, but that incident made me freakout.
29:09 Ryan PRECCE Flip From Last year Daytona Coke zero sugar 400 from 75th anniversary of NASCAR lucky he was ok able to return the next week at Darlington for the playoff
Clios dont have the lowest center of gravity, and the curbs are built similarly to roof tiles in terms of texture. The car had its right side wheels behind the curb and upon exiting the corner, it clipped the curb
I think the curb did actually get the right side wheels off the ground enough that the force of the car turning sent it all the way over. Genuinely such a goofy looking crash though lmao
After seasons end. A couple of Legends has died last year and even recently this year. RIP for these legends. | Gil De Ferran - (1966-2023) Cale Yarborough (1938-2023) and Tim Steele (1968-2024)
We need to remember that even after seeing all of these bad crashes, motorsport has never been safer. Special thanks to all the other marshals and safety workers out there.
The Formula regional and F4 series this year were just not good enough. Poor driving most weekends resulting in monumental crashes and ultimately the life of a driver. The amount of rolls and just big crashes in general is beyond too much. For example, the one at Mugello across the line, so avoidable and was a massive impact into the wall.
The crash at Spa resulting in Dilano's passing is something that I don't think is fair to put on any of the drivers. That session should have 100% been red flagged due to the conditions. It would have been nearly impossible to see far in front, and what caused the fatal collision was more due to the nature of the circuit above anything else, being that it funnels broken cars back out onto the Kemmel straight after Radillon.
@@ciaran2745 yeah tbh I completely agree with you mate on that one, Spa is dangerous enough in the best of conditions let alone rain like that. It’s poor from race officials for that one. Still too many big ones for one season though.
Quite a few years ago; in addition to the full-time move after he finished MotoGP. Rossi has been racing GT3 pretty regularly (as in 1-2 times per year) since 2012.
The Kyle Kirkwood crash at Indy happened in front of me. I was sitting between turns 1 and 2. The scariest part was watching the tire fly towards the stands. I was so fixated on the tire that I didn't see Kyle flip.
To be fair, seeing a car flip at Indy is becoming a bit more of a common occurrence. Very rarely, however, is there any possibility of audience injury so I think something that could potentially hurt you would be the better thing to watch and react to in the long run. Granted, I was watching the thing on TV at my grandmother’s lake house in NE Indiana so I was getting the curated view of the race. Still though, can’t wait for this year’s 500.
9:20 - shout out to that French clubman driver who raced to get his competitors out of that fire. Good man.
