For the AE86 idle revs going up and down after you did that coolant change, it's called an air lock. You need to jack the front of the car up and run the car with the radiator cap off, use your hands to squeeze the coolant hoses and you will see bubbles come up from the top of the radiator, the coolant will also go down so keep topping it up until the coolant doesn't go down anymore. After that just keep an eye of the coolant levels for about 3 days to a week when you're driving the car around and make sure it stays topped up. I had the same issue with my civic EK and almost started going at the tachometer wiring. It's just an air lock, don't worry 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I was thinking initially something with TPS actually, but this makes a lot more sense after they did everything regarding coolant and hosing and everything
I agree with this to an extent, but it could very well be the coolant temp sensor is either bad, not connected or faulty wiring. I have an aw11 mr2 (4age) and had this same issue with revs bouncing out of nowhere when the car had been running just fine the previous day. The connector had actually backed itself out overtime, but it still looked plugged in. As soon as I pushed it back in to place car went back to running perfect again. So, you should definitely look into that if that doesn't fix your issue.
hey, i also have a problem with my car, it just suddenly revs up to 2k rpms, when in neutral or park, and also bouncing up and down, but mostly just goes up to 2k rpms
Marek looked so bummed in that barrel, I also just turned 30 and I get it bro. I always hate my bday but you guys look like you have such good bonds and friendship. Inspirational for automotive culture but also just in general. Thank you nightride
literally dropped my jaw when i heard he turned 30...bro got good genes, u cant even tell, especially since most eastern european 30 year olds are already bald on top with a deadbod...broo is in good shape
@@fulop._.szilard3000 you clearly haven't seen British people looking like they're in their 40s while being in their 20s. :D I'm Polish and turning 36 this August, people give me 10 less, gotta love good genes, but also kind of healthy lifestyle to preseve yourself. :)
For the idle hunting issue on the 4age check the TPS sensor and connector and also check coolant temp sensor is plugged in. Also could be a vacuum leak or air bubble in cooling system. Good luck, love the 86 content!
air bubble in the coolant where it goes into the throttle body, my AW11 had the same problem if the AE86 throttle body works the same way could be that
Hey Sam, I used to own a AW11 MR2 with a 4AGE as well (it's not exactly the same setup, but close). I used to have that idle issue as well. With my setup the throttle body is connected to the coolant system. The temperature of the coolant heats a wax type thermostat on the idle control valve, like an automatic choke that closes when the wax in the thermostat melts. Maybe you have something similar or some other system that controls your idle based on vacuum lines (the aw11 is full of vacuum lines). What I did personally is plug up the idle valve bypass/choke system completely by simply blocking a hole inside the throttle body. On top of that (optional, if you still want choke) I used another unused bypass channel, connected a valve (borrowed from sw20 aircon system) to it with a switch, to manually put the choke on. If the choke was longer needed to be on, this idle issue would come up (warm engine) and I could simple turn off the air feed by the switch and it was gone. In reality I would only use it on startup and turn it off when driving off. I hope this makes sense, if you need more info just message me. Also, really bleed that coolant system very well. If you have indeed some similar system the air in the coolant lines can cause issues. Good luck
Happy birthday Marek. These are real friends. I don’t know if I come back for the great relationship you guys have or the car content but both are amazing. Keep it up.

have to say everytime I watch one of your vids it motivates me to get to where you are. you inspired me to do my own work on m car as Im aiming for the garage with the boys lmao. Just wanted to say thx for inspiring me, I hope to see you all prosper in the future.
The surging idle you're getting is most likely due to air in the cooling system. Once you have the coolant leaks fixed, lift the front end of the car up high and run the car with the radiator cap off and the heat turned on. Get the car up to temp and keep topping up the coolant while it's running until there are no bubbles, the heat works well, and the car stops taking coolant. If you rev the car to 2k rpms or so for a bit while it's up to temp that can also help force air out. Good luck!

Air lock on the coolant system,,, had the same situation on my 5 gen Honda prelude, when flushing mi coolant, those 90’s Japanese iAC works with coolant thru on them, so make sure you purge well your coolant system and problem should be away! Cheers good luck
Well you know how to take the front of and on quick now. With all the silicone on the outside it needed to be done. As soon as the weather got warm it would probably leak anyway. New front main, new gaskets on the water pump. Now plug in the tps sensor or the vacuum hose that runs the idle control valve. HB to Merck. ✌️
31:13 I had a similar problem with my friends prelude where revs keep going up and down. It was quite simple, the TPS wasn't functioning right and we had to recalibrate it. I would give that a try first or if that doesn't work possibly replacing it. Good luck bros!
Something to note on the R32 hydro handbrake mount is the overhang from the gearbox tunnel. If there is ever an unfortunate side impact it might cause a big injury to your left knee my bro. Something to consider during your awesome build 🙏🏽 Happy birthday Marek!

It turned out the coolant got into the wires of the fuel injectors and corroded them so they had bad connection. For the idle hunting issue on the 4age check the TPS sensor and connector and also check coolant temp sensor is plugged in. Also could be a vacuum leak or air bubble in cooling system. Good luck, love the 86 content!
could also be the AAV, deals with idle, when they start to go bad, that rise and fall idle shows up pretty quick
Fully agree with the tps sensor, I only know because Hondas do the same thing
air bubble in the coolant where it goes into the throttle body, my AW11 had the same problem if the AE86 throttle body works the same way could be that
Yeeeep I write the same you know more about this engine I thought a sensor could make this. Also a vacuum failure make this
The tps or vacuum leak maybe how many sensors this 4age have?
That’s like exactly what everybody experiences working on cars, thanks for showing the struggle

You can use some black ABS plastic to cover up those holes in the door cards. It wouldnt cost a lot and i think it would just tidy up the interior.

The idle hunting is air in the cooling system messing with the wax thermostat in the throttle body. Delt with this many times
