    I think you nailed it. One problem with automatics; when you need full servicing after 10 or so years, the watch may not be worth the price of that service. Examples: low-end Seiko 5's, Orients, Chinese homages, etc. I guess at that point, you might entertain replacing the movement yourself. Haven't had a solar watch battery replaced yet, but I have a Seiko Kinetic with a fading battery that is in need a service. Quartz do tend to be the most trouble free. Most last forever. Good vid. Thanks.

      I think if you buy a cheap seiko, Orient, citizen and it lasts you 10 years I would be happy to just replace it when it stops.

    Thank you, you answered my question. Now I know just the regular quartz is for me. Seiko quartz. I hope other folks that are looking for this information find this video. Again, thanks.

    Great impartial explanation of all three types of watches! I own all 3 types as well and solar is my fave, followed by automatic ( although they aren't as accurate) then quartz but your points about replacing batteries yourself in quartz watches may make me think differently as that is the main drawback to quartz.

    I get it, --- the attraction to small mechanical parts syncing together to project the time on one's wrist. lets face it tho', its antiquated technology, centuries old. bit of a hassle to set and wind, inaccurate to a lesser degree, get serviced , regulated, budget/marriage ending prices.
    Ive purchased fairly high end, only to have it stop on me and dealing with sending back for repair, ugh- the blither never ceases.
    Im done, im way too pragmatic and efficient for that nowadays.
    much prefer the highest end -solar atomic [ once you get the hang of them] quartz.
    pinpoint accuracy , no fuss, you might have to replace a capacitor in a decade[ maybe]
    some ppl say '' those pieces '' have no soul, ha
    y'all keep winding your over priced auto's- ive progressed. albeit great hobby. peace gents

    Good video Simucom, solar watches are also quartz watches...i got a few watches, every of them is quartz, one is solar multiband and i can say that the quartz watches are dependable about the outside temperature and almost every quartz watch is gaining time instead of losing. My japanese quartz in Casio DW5600 is gaining 1 second per week, and my swiss ETA quartz (Marathon) is almost perfect, i didn't saw any losing or gaining of a time in a last month. Like a normal watch user (i'm not torturing my watches, i love them) i would say that the swiss quartz is almost perfect thing. In a future i'll give my best to buy more watches, definitely one or two more G's and a few more swiss watches. I would like to have automatic watch, if i'm not wearing it than it's gonna be on a winder, that's it. I didn't been a too big fan of automatic watches in the past, but why not? But probably it's gonna be a swiss automatic, not japanese.
    Nice video Simucom, like usually

    Yes, no watch is without pros and cons. I have automatic, quartz and digital watches because they are exciting individually and for different occasions. But a watch was missing from my collection. So I bought a Casio Wave Ceptor (LCW-M100DSE-1AER) which has both solar and is radio controlled. It has a suitable size for me and features. However, I have put on a leather strap instead of the steel strap. Weight is 54 grams now, before 115 grams. I thought it was a good everyday watch. Good luck with the "time" in the future for all of you watch lovers :-)

      If I had to pick one fore overall reliability and lifespan, solar would be my choice

  • @ReferenceFidelityComponents
    @ReferenceFidelityComponents ปีที่แล้ว

    Solar. It’s a no brainer. Solar cells and capacitor batteries should last at least ten years or more. I have quartz watches here including a Seiko titanium chrono going strong after 12, years with just a few battery changes. Only watch snobs really claim autos are “better”. However, as a collector a really nice automatic is an understandable choice but it has to be a decent one which means megabucks by comparison. For reliability and accuracy the citizen ecodrive is about as good as it gets. Having said that I’d love a Tudor 200m dive automatic

    FYI some watches use silicone gasket (they are usually semi transparent) they are made to be used dry, if you put silicone oil on them they'll turn into sticky goo.
