  • There are three main movement types that watches utilize - Mechanical, Automatic, and Quartz. Mechanical and Automatic watches contain no batteries and with proper maintenance they can last a lifetime+. Quartz watches are battery powered and are superbly accurate. Solar watches almost bridge the gap (in a sense) between Mechanical/Automatic watches and Quartz watches because they last for decades and they retain amazing accuracy because they are part of the Quartz family. In this video, I'll share with you five reasons why you should own a solar watch!

    **Important Note**
I really enjoy watches and that's why I started this channel so I could review them regularly but my satisfaction is not found in owning or experiencing watches, no matter how many I may accumulate or how luxurious and expensive they may be . . .
Wise King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 5:10 "He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity."
The truth is, material possessions of any kind, money, power, etc. never can and never will satisfy our hungering souls. Only knowing, loving, and serving God can truly satisfy.
The only way we can have a real relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe, is through the Lord Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
Through Christ's sacrificial death on the cross, for my sins and your sins, and His resurrection from the dead we can have peace with God (Romans 5:1), forgiveness of sins (Acts 10:43), eternal life (John 3:16), and so much more!
In Christ, we can know true joy now and for all eternity.
"He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." - 1 John 5:12

Another advantage of solar: With regular quartz watches you have to open the case to change the battery, and often times opening the case will significantly degrade the water resistance ability of the watch. To keep your watch as waterproof as it was when it left the factory, whenever you open the case you may have to replace and re-grease the gaskets and do a water pressure test. Solar avoids this, as there is no need to open the case ever, which means you get to keep the factory waterproofing.

I bought a Solar watch by Lorus over 25 years ago and it’s still working fine.

Have a solar Seiko, it was sitting in a drawer for 3 years because I needed a new band, just replaced the band and it still works flawless. Love this watch

I have owned solar watches Citizen and Casio since 2006 , great accuracy, never stopped working , never needed a battery replacement , they just keep going and going, mechanical watches are a joke in terms of accuracy and value for your money

Excellent video...I have a Casio Edifice solar watch and its great. My wife got it for my birthday for me 6 years ago and its still going no problems at all. I must admit she has great taste 😁 automatics may be the movement we all lust after but you cant beat the quartz for accuracy and the solar powered quartz for longevity 👍

"The Last of Us" made me think that a solar watch would be a good investment.

Speaking for the longevity of the rechargeable battries/capacitors, I have a Lorus (Read Seiko) kinetic watch that has been running reliably now for the best part of 30 years.

I just bought a solar watch, but my Casio "normal" watch ran for over 10 years now, and I heard lifespan of solar battery is also around 10 years, soooooo

  • @spacemanschannel6380

Better than a solar watch is only a radio controlled solar watch! Casio offers many of them, at a decent price. You can't beat the combination of these two features.

I belong to the large group of people who since many years have been using the mobile phone as watch instead of a wristwatch. And it's interesting that the mobile phone still has not totally replaced the wristwatch. But during long time I have thought: why in the world I have to pick up the phone every time I want to know the time?

I have a quartz and two automatics so far (cause I think they're great), but recently I found out about this solar ones ( I'm fairly new to this hobby). I think after doing some research and hearing people's opinions, soon I'll be adding one of these to the ones I own.

Spot on with regards to the advantages of this type of watch. The perfect precise and reliable movement to meet the challenges of the encroaching zombie, or dare I say COVID-19 apocalypse. Greetings from Denmark, by the way. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the quick but clear explanation of the different types of watch mechanics (or movements). As a watch noob, this was really helpful for me.

Very informative, I have to say that I agree with what you said. I've had a citizen eco drive for the best part of a decade and it's still working perfectly.
