Nice to have Joe Hubbard back. He’s got a superlative memory and has so much information to share. I like Joe’s sense of humour and the fact that he doesn’t sell Bill Nelson short on all this. Looking forward to Joe Hubbard Part 3. Still hoping for Joe, Bill, Mike, Rrussell and Gary to try something again. Nick Beggs is on ‘Outland’ from 1991 and is credited with contributing Chapman Stick on ‘Confession’ and ‘Devotion’ and along with Mike Smith is co-credited with contributing bass on ‘Heart.’
Saturday morning and the chance to do the most important thing first before anything else….. watch this brilliant chat between Joe and Stephen! Great to hear more about what good guys Ced, Russ, and Chris were to work with for the gigs, and how Gary looked after everyone equally with hotels, travelling together, going to gigs such as Peter Gabriel as a group etc. ….loved to hear about Nick Beggs Kaja discussions too. A diversion made into the world of downloads (something which I refuse to do, I’ve never done one, I don’t even know what they’re called lol digital music etc, I want the physical album), TOTP rerecordings, Billy Currie project discussions, Dramatis with Joe, there’s so much here it’s awesome. The only downside was the JohnWebbMimeGate reared it’s head again. I guess we have to remember John was very young then, and still learning keyboards and sax, but could play drums, maybe he wasn’t ready for live performances with kbds and sax. Denis Haines I think had done the most recent Numan tour, in USA, then left the touring band and indeed Dramatis, so time would be short for a new guy. Maybe Gary wanted to give John a hand up with his music career too. Whatever the truth etc etc, Joe kinda covers it all anyway here, pointing out that a lot of bands used tapes etc for their gigs, and some artists made a career of just miming and dancing but couldn’t sing or play anything themselves. Anyway, thanks Stephen! As for Nick Beggs with Numan on record, I think he did a couple of songs on Outland, and Co wrote Shame, a B Side. Could be wrong though. Cheers all, great stuff. PS I remember queueing to go into the gig in north wales for the warriors tour, and one of my mates (we were all still school age) said there’s a great bass player in the band called Joe Hubbard and he’s got his own band called Hubbards Clubbard. I don’t know how true that was. Will have to research it.
great interview. yeah, I saw a warriors live show on utoob and thought "I can't believe Joe got away with slapping that much, all over even the old tunes". because I would do that for a lark at home, but if I had that gig I wouldn't have dared, it was so over the top it was ridiculous, Almost, too much, even for me, a slap enthusiast. but it was certainly interesting.
What a lovely honest guy Joe is, and seems such a warm character. Great interview

Next year is the 40th anniversary of the Warriors tour. Maybe Numan should get Joe back for that tour!

none of the warriors tour dates were cancelled
Hemel Hempstead date was cancelled/rearranged due to the stage set not fitting.
