    I loved it. It is one of my favorite jumps, it is hard jumping from the same foot I land. It took me a while, but I am finally getting it. I guess it would have been helpful if I had someone explaining like you did. You do a good job to break down and make it easier to understand. Thank you.

    Thank you for the excellent content! Could you show us the axel as a "mini jump"?. I´ve watched your video "Mini Jumps! How to not be scared of jumping on ice! " many times, and I´d like to land the axel in 2024, even if the jump is tiny. I´ve been working on it, on and off, for the past 2 years.I can do a pretty good back spin and most of the exercices in your video on "8 steps to learn the axel".

    • @iskatecoach
      @iskatecoach  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes of course I’ll try and film one 👍🏼 there’s mini versions that are under rotated but still look and feel how the axel works. In competition they would get a poor GOE mark but if you just want to tick off Axel as a skill it will do 👍🏼 😆

    I was told that this should be no more than a quarter turn and not take off forward? are both correct?

    • @iskatecoach
      @iskatecoach  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      One of skatings big debates… by ISU rules and in the history of skating a loop is in theory backwards outside edge to backwards outside edge. A technical specialist will give an under rotated < call if you turn too much on takeoff as you say up to a quarter. But then watch a loop jump in slow motion and you will see a certain amount of “pivot” on the toe pick on takeoff that will be closer to forwards for most. So the answer is analysis, watch a few loops in slow motion from people that can do them and decide. That said sometimes it’s just a feeling of facing forward on takeoff (with your blade backwards) or knowing which direction to put the energy of the takeoff… hope that makes sense

    Thanks for this! Are you able to explain the hook/fish bit? Not heard that before

    • @iskatecoach
      @iskatecoach  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey 👋🏻
      Sure! It’s just a fun way I explain the hook. For a loop you should see on the ice a fairly straight line that then curves to the outside edge as the skater bends their knee to jump. That curve is usually a 1/4 circle sometimes a little more. A common mistake for new loopers is they use their shoulders to face forward before take off which cuts that curve short say 1/8 of a circle for example.
      I ask the question “could you catch a fish on that hook?” To my skaters. As a shallow hook the fish would fall off the end, as a deeper hook it’s more likely you’re having fish for dinner 😆
      I explain it again here: th-cam.com/video/w5RmMa8bG3Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_BvYiPPnYGk8o1g1

      Yes I have a few skaters that spin and jump different ways, I’d go with what feels more “natural” to you. And if they don’t feel different just pick one and stick with it 👍🏼

    • @iskatecoach
      @iskatecoach  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, and I have had back troubles related to a slipped disc (not skating), it is likely your posture?? Is there a particular move that makes it worse?

      @@iskatecoach I am working axel attempts (I have it off ice), butterfly entry to spins, stars, camels, and sits. I'm thinking it is just all too much impact or something or I'm not doing leftie stuff enough to balance my muscles?

    • @iskatecoach
      @iskatecoach  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Possibly. Generally back strength will help support your back so it more resistant to injury and strain.
      I’m working on a skater strength course which will have a section that targets all relevant areas of the core specific for skating. 👍🏼
