Looks great Steven, thanks for the review , looks like a quality tent set up. Look forward to seeing your feedback when you eventually get on the road(weather permitting). Safe riding.
Yeah it’s quite hefty and fairly large in size compared to a regular tent for sure. I’m interested to find out which setup I prefer. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
I think that looks a pretty easy way to go I'm not really a camper but if I were to try it this might well be what I would choose as you say during spring /summer looking forward to seeing how you get on with this set up Steve i'm sure it going to be fun well presented too . 👌👍
Thanks for watching and your positive comments. I can’t wait to hit the road and see how she does! I’ll capture as much as I can and share on the channel 🤙🏻
I bought the toucan version and used it on my Vespa 300 to camp on Islay . Was very comfortable and the stove was great. Not got the hang of rolling it up tight yet lol
@@surfingsteven1624 I put it on my back rack but I don’t recommend that- had to tighten up the bolts and it was overloaded. I didn’t go too far with it like that tbh - as the fuel tank is under the seat l didn’t want to put it on the pillion which would have been much safer.
I'm in a similar position. I believe it will roll smaller when the canvas becomes less stiff. I also wondered about putting an air mattress in to reduce bulk.
Thanks for the review. The packed size is just too big. I do a lot of touring, all over Europe , on my ‘Bonnie’. I suggest it would be better to go to a good (specialist) outdoor retailer and pick out individual items. I use a Nordisk 1 man tent, Rab sleeping bag, Thermarest mat and a Rab Siltarp 2 tarp. It offers much more covered space at a fraction of the size. Other excellent brands are: MSR, Exped, Mountain Equipment. Good riding 🖐🖐
Thanks for sharing! Picking out individual items to suit your individual needs is a great idea. Could be useful depending on the size of your bike, luggage system, ease of set up and weather requirements etc. The Goose is a good system though for those that want to maybe spend less time prepping and more than strapping it to a rack and hitting the road. I've personally used both setups before and both work great! Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback.
i have one for last x3 years and the roadkitchen too, love it. it does what it does and is a tent for life. only thing i would recommend is getting sleeping bag liner for those cooler nights. I wrap my liner up with the rest of the tent. it adds no extra bulk and is then always there if i need it. happy camping/biking! 🏍✌🤍
Nice, thanks for your feedback! I’m going to get myself a liner. I’ve also considered the road kitchen. I use a small camping stove at the moment but I love the idea of cooking alternatively. Did your wingman come with the 2 up right poles for setting up the canopy with out the bike? I keep seeing them used on instagram a lot but my Goose didn’t come with any extra poles.
@@surfingsteven1624 ah the roadkitchen is ace, you will love it! it's only slightly more mess than a gas stove and gives a really fantastic heat. Stuart fillingham has a great video on it in action which is very accurate. I used it this weekend with my family and it just about handled meals for x4 ppl. I haven't seen that re: up right poles but it sounds like a good add on if you cannot have the bike next to you for some reason (ex. camp site rules) i will look into that myself now too! All i need now is the iceman and i'll be a walking marketing campaign for Wingman haha
@@Benwheatleys I’ll put the stove on my Christmas list. Wingman have actually just released some really cool items. Coincidentally, the awning poles I mentioned are now for sale 🙌🏻 it’s nice to find a brand isn’t it that doesn’t cut corners on quality.
A good review thank you. I like the idea and concept but do prefer a bit more space and am 6FT 3" I am older than your good self and suffer from the cold as have health issues. Great rally tent I would say. Enjoy the camping and thank you again.
Hello again John 👋🏻 Glad you enjoyed the video. The wingman seems to be getting a lot of interest but mostly positive and generally people seem interested to see how it performs in the wild! At 6,3 it would be quite snug but a dare say it might be ok at a push. I was really surprised at the space. I totally understand though how it’s nice to have some extra room after a riding day and a 2-3 man tent would offer that more so. I’ll probably work between my Wingman and the Coleman tent depending on the trip. Great rally tent as you say! Thanks for watching 🙂
Nice idea but blimey that's a big lump. Even allowing its got a thin mattress and sleeping bag included it's still a big old lump to carry. My waterproof roll bag is about the same size and in that I carry a three man(two comfortably 😉) tent with a storage/cooking/sitting vestibule , air mattress, sleeping bag, fold out table and chair, stove and cooking kit, aluminium water bottle, first aid kit and more😮. As I said, nice idea and it's probably made well but it's just too big considering its just a one person shelter.
Thanks for watching. I can’t wait to try the wingman tent out in the wild and compare the pro’s and con’s vs a more standard tent setup. I’ll be making a video on that really soon 👍🏻
Nice review out of interest do they suggest putting the tent on the other side of the bike in case it falls over in bad weather especially if it’s on soft ground and gives out? Knowing my luck I’d be crushed by my own bike and stuck in the tent 😂
Thanks for watching. I think either side is fine and I used a small wooden coaster under the kick stand so that it doesn’t sink into the ground. The bike didn’t budge during my trip so I’d be happy to use that method again 🤙🏻
It’s so cool, but hard to justify when a basic backpacking tent and a sleeping bag in a compression sack will give more space and comfort for the same or less $$
The good thing is there are lots of options out there to try until we each find our perfect setup 😄 With Wingman it’s the overall package to consider I think. The quality of the tent looks to be fantastic so my feeling is this tent is gong to last a very long time. The canvas fabric seems really hardy. The fact they supply spares individually is a huge bonus for me because if I break a pole like I did on my Coleman, I found it’s not so easy to replace compared to the Wingman. Wingman also do continental group tours which look amazing. I know some of it is for marketing but it’s also about being a part of something. Almost like a biker club! I ride mostly by myself so for me it gives me that buzz! Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Interestingly my tent didn’t come with instructions but I have also read online that hosing the tent down with water helps seal the fabric. I think it’s fine either way. My next video will be testing the wingman in the wild so stay tuned 🤙🏻
Don't get me wrong , it is beautiful but the pack down is so huge😰. I have the Able Brown Nomad 2 that I bought a few years back. It's similar to what you bought there but not as roomy😅
@surfingsteven1624 on my 2011 monster 796 storage spot, that takes a lot of room plus I've seen other videos on this tent. Saddle bags on my bike looks off🙄
According to many reviews online, the wingman is extremely water resistant. They go further on their website and advise: “Heavy rains cause the cotton canvas fibres to swell, further tightening the weave in wet conditions, keeping the water outside while you stay dry inside. Wingman Of The Road’s canvas is pre-treated so it is quick-drying and won’t retain water when you are ready to pack up and hit the road.” The tent can also be configured in a number of ways so if you were concerned about the fly canopy, you can have one or both sides sloping downwards away from the tent. I feel confident enough to try it 👍🏻
That's a massive package, in same space I carry a larger tent that I can stand up in, x2 sleeping bags and mattresses. All weighs in less and can sleep in lower temperatures. Quality looks good but for amount of space available just to big and heavy with better options out there.
