- Motocamping? Look no further. Today we're reviewing the all in one wingman of the road tents. We've had several trips with these and travelled over 3000 miles with these tents, so a very qualified and honest review is the result.

I own two of the first gen's. Here in the Midwest of the United States, you get 4 seasons worth of weather in one evening. These are amazing at handling the rough weather.
"It's so heavy"- Seems like a bad thing, until the wind picks up.
"But my air-mattress is packable"- The mattress in the WOTR is foam. The comfort is unmatched by blow-up mats.
Yeah you can pack other tents into stuff, but with these, you can pack stuff into THEM. You can literally roll stuff up inside the tent when you put it on your bike (similar to a traditional cowboy bed-roll) making it multiple purpose.
The canvas material is strong and will last way longer than any paper-thin, poly-blend material, that leaks when you barely touch it...
Definitely not "hipster bullshit".
Totally agree, it's a functional tent. Can be upgraded if needed, can roll in a warmer sleeping bag if the one in there is too cold.
As for having a spot to relax if it's raining, well a tarp with ropes is a quick solution, Easy to pack.
I'm not sure if I can fit the Toucan on my bike with all the other luggage, guess it's going to be the last thing I buy when all is on the bike I'll know more what I have to buy.

I have the Toucan and I love how comfortable it is... It's heavy but since I am driving a GS doesn't really matter that much, unless you'll do off-road. It's a very good back rest actually...

Yes lads great video. Been using my Goose for 2 years, faultless.Have bought a tarp but not tried it out yet, the idea is to give some porch space for cooking in bad weather. Looks great on my Vulcan S!

I have the Toucan and fitted a 10cm inflatable mat and a carinthia defence 1. The original setup was a little too hard for me and a few nights where a bit too cold for my preferences. My setup is 1,4kg heavier than original but so much more comfy. I like to leave a dry pair of clothes inside or all the non riding clothes inside, cause you don´t really notice it.
(i´m 1,98m and 110kg for reference)
I own one of them and use it for my 1 man 1 night camping trips! An optimal choice for this kind of stuff
Ye we use it 2/3 days at a time. Anything longer and I think a bigger tent would be great just for that added bit of comfort

If you get stuck in a storm and have to leave and roll up the swag wet.....does the bedding and stuff inside also get wet ?
Good question, we slept in a insane storm in Scotland (watch the vlogs on the channel) and the tents held up fine, the canvas layer on the outside is really waterproof. Sometimes it can get through but nothing major, if you set it up the day after it would air out within 30mins.
The main problem with rain is you can’t sit outside and they aren’t they best things to sit in when your not sleeping.
I'd be interested to see what difference to the packing size removing the foam mattress might make? Does it make a huge difference?
Hmmm we haven’t looked but ye it would make a big difference, mattress pads it out a lot, I’d say maybe even half the size
We got the same thing over here in Australia and they are called swags not tents.
Very cool, hopefully our tents can hang out with swags at some point in the future

This is just a rebranded swag. Make it with polyester not canvas and with an inflatable mattress pad and you’d have a *very* compact package.
I get the point on the inflatable mattress. I’d say rolling something up that much is risky with the mattress as it could pop and it’s hard to clean but deffo would save some space,
Same with the canvas. Would deffo be lighter and more compact but more prone to ripping and weather

The (mainly Australian) companies that make traditional swags, which this is almost certainly a repackaged version of, make one with (removable) inflatable mattress that rolls up inside no drama. I also have a Thermarest Neoair Xlite Max that is both a 7.3R value and virtually indestructible. The reason these are canvas is because they *are* a swag and designed for the harsh Outback bush. It’s not necessary in the majority of other environments, particularly if you’re marketing it to British consumers.

@@LukeTPZ I'm pretty sure this is the company's own design, but it's definitely taking lessons from existing swags. They have a few little touches like the helmet hooks, the awning, and the zippable goodies pouch inside that would be hard to just find as existing features and repackage with a new badge.

Absolutely love my Toucan! Fits well on my bike and the extra room makes all the difference.

Closed up, it is huge! Set up it is too small. Looks like super good quality.
Hey Lads, you mention in the vid that rough water, does cause some dampness on the inside. Does that cause any issues with the foam getting wet? Curious as I'm looking at getting a Toucan, but my trip will take me coastal and up to the northwest of the US. Cant be very comfortable to sleep on consistently damp foam/bedding if the weather wont let up. Grateful for any insights, safe travels!
The dampness is pretty minimal in our experience, just make sure you close off the zips off before you get in to sleep if the weather is bad, easy mistake to make that caused my tent to get quite wet without realizing one time. Best part is you can take the foam mattress out of the tent and air it out / dry it the next day if you get a spot of good weather. Hope this helps and sounds like a great trip so enjoy 👌🏍️
How small do they pack down without the mattress and sleeping bag? That seems like a massive package for a tent you can't sit up in.
They deffo aren’t the smallest thing when rolled up but they ain’t too bulky considering what is included (maybe 90cm x 40 cm ish). They are ideal for those weekend quick summer get aways where not much luggage required as they are so quick and convenient but anything over 5/6 nights we think some more hardcore gear would be needed

Swag are what we call em here in Australia. As tents dont have the foam mattress in them.

No, this not a tent it is little better than a bivvy bag. You cannot sit up, so cannot prepare food, or eat, so it is a heavy crash bag. So you out in the elements on you bike all the time, except for sleeping, that makes life so tough. There are plenty of lighter tents that are tents.
I've looked at these tents a few times but I can't get passed how absolutely massive they are when they are rolled up. I can get my tent, sleeping bag, pillow, inflatable mat, extra camping blanket, camping stove plus room for clothes in a 30l bag so why would I want to strap a something the size of a small greenhouse to the back of my bike instead? The camping gear I have is also almost certainly far superior to what comes with the Wingman and it was also cheaper! I'm sorry but these tents are hipster bullshit! Good channel though! Keep the vids coming......

Sorry but "fairly waterproof " i was seriously looking at buying this till he said that. I dont want to get wet while im sleeping. I've been there with a cheap nasty tent im not paying £400 to get wet. Great idea but its a fail if it isn't waterproof...
It's fully waterproof don't worry mate, just watch our NC500 tour, was fine in all conditions thrown at us 👍

The fibres of the cotton swell like planks of wood on a boat to create a water tight seal, filling any small holes or stitching . @@Tagfire17 A lightweight rent of same size. Max 2kg. Self inflating madrass, 2,2kg. Fiber sleepingbag 0,8kg. Tarp 0,5kg. You can roll it up in the tarp, or use a dufflebag. You end up with a kit that weighs the half of the hipster-tent
The swags are better. Those things are made in China with cheap materials. Save your money and buy a quality Australian swag. These are not 2 man tents if you want to sleep
