McKenzie Method for Back Pain - Extension in Standing - Easiest Exercise for Back Pain & Sciatica

  • Dr. Sam Schroetke demonstrates how to perform the Easiest Exercise for Treating Low Back Pain and Sciatica - Extension in Standing. This is a very effective exercise for getting rid of stubborn low back pain and sciatica, and it can be performed anywhere.
    It is very important that you get to end-range, extending backwards as far as you can.
    Perform 10-15 reps every 2-3 hours, or as needed for pain.

    I have been doing the McKenzie exercise for almost six months,I have been doing it every day three to four times for lower back pain.I do it every time there is pain in the lower back,I am going to do it every two hours like you suggested to see if I can walk better besides the back pain,also when I am preparing any thing while standing, the pain is severe and I start to exercise again.There is no back pain when I am sitting down.

    I'm totally confused now; 5 weeks ago I had a sciatica pain down to my right leg calf, was doing the McKenzie exercise every day about 10-12 times a day, the pain left my leg and the diameter of the pain in my reduced big time. Not so fast......
    You would not believe this, woke up few days ago after all this amazing 4 weeks recovery that I had, and found myself back in square one again, Only now the pain I had on the back of my leg was replaced by 20% numbness all the way to the toes, a slight bend for brushing my teeth and boom all the pain came back. Please any suggestions and words of encouragement?
    It's now few day after I wrote the first part of this message and it looks like I'm recovering again, the only thing that really bothers me is that I have about 15%-20% numbness in the back of the right leg thigh, heal, and bottom of foot, and tiny bit on 3 toes,
    When doing the McKenzie exercise every hour of every day I have no pain in the leg or back at all, could you give me few words of encouragement as to my numbness issue???

      @@ReedRichards_ Yes man I did, it took a lot of hard work, I did the Mckenzie exercise every hour on the hour for 10 weeks, I still have some numbness 2 years later but not too bad, however I have no back or sciatica pain for 2 years now.

      @@yoheff988 I'm happy for you dude. So the key was doing the McKenzie for 10 weeks? Did you have a herniated disk or bullging?

      @@ReedRichards_ Honestly I don't think (not sure) that there is much of a difference between the two, I an tell you that the pain I had was great, pain from the lower back to the butt down the back of the leg all the way to my toes, I could hardly walk and could not sit at all, Because I was very confused I did go to see a chiropractor for 10 sessions, now I can tell you that for me it was a wast of time.
      Don't forget you see the chiropractor for half an hour, there are 23.5 more hours in a day.
      Towards the end of my sessions with him he told me that my fast and incredible healing was all thanks to what I did in the remaining of those 23.5 hours and not because of what he did.
      I was very determined and it payed up.
      This Mckenzie exercise is really something else, I recommend big time, good luck
