    wow great informatiion. You have wmpowered me after 36 hours in acute pain if not more. This mornibg I did a set of yoga stretches with my yoga ball. Got up from the mat feeling in pain. After your video I realuzed I can correct my posture frim forwaed to backwards as pervyour video. Also, the way I am sitting now with a pillow tucked behind my back when ai sit feels good. I did scan my body today And I thought about yesterday how bad the pain got after my 20 minute walk. Just like you said in your video the pain moved down my leg from my left lower back! I feel happy and not fearful now because I totally understsnd your video and the concept of mechanical shift to correct the back absorbing the pain and latrer disappearing after the ñbody adjusts itself! I really value this video you have done in service here. God Bless you! I am in Miami And I will visit yiur clinic with my husband hecause he can also benefit a lot from a movement examination as welll as me. I am happy tiday I suffered this pain fir the last 36 hours because I havealreadt message your video to three contacts who suffer from the topic you are sharing in your video. Someof them get shots with no results, others have had a couple of Spine Surgery. Others wear a lumbar pillow everywhere they go. Which to me is the less agressive and most likely to bring comfort and correct posture. Thank you Doctor!

    I did not catch one thing: why would the pain disappear once it's moved up to the back?

    • @catshannon1584
      @catshannon1584 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      manuchacha1 ....I tend to agree a little with you. I have osteoarthritis and lots of lower back issues which will never get better so even if I get it contained to the back it's not going to leave there. Still this was a brilliantly explained presentation and told me all the things I'm doing wrong which only makes matters worse. I'm going to give it a go. The updated book is on Amazon for £7.99. Good luck

      I'm not an expert ... but I think the theory is that the bulge is getting smaller (pressing on fewer leg nerves and more back nerves - maybe the leg nerves are positioned further from the bulge? see 28:19), and thus whatever you've been doing (stretch/exercise/posture/etc) has been helping. So keep doing it and the bulge will become so small that it doesn't touch any nerves, removing all pain (for now, at least).

    Excellent video with easy to understand explanations of how the back functions & how problems arise, escalate or declines. I’ve had cervical & lumbosacral back pain since 2001, due to an injury. I have multiple herniated discs, nerve compression & spinal stenosis. I’ve already had a cervical fusion because I was loosing strength in my upper extremities. I still have pain from the cervical spine, but it’s less than before & my arms & hands regained some strength. Now my lower back is terrible. My hips hurt constantly & the pain down my legs is always there. Unfortunately all I can do is stretching exercises in bed. Walking slowly for 1 block is a taxing effort & im known to fall without warning so I need supervision. I hope this method can help me. There are definitely positions that I put myself into that reduce my pain level.

    This is the best ever seminar for Sciatica. He nailed it with everything he said in this video. My herniated disc has recovered by lying on my stomach and lifting my elbows on the bed every night (the McKenzie post). Also, don't sit too much and always on your feet. Moving is the best mechanic for your body.

    This is great! It's like a functional medicine approach to back pain.
    Also it was extremely interesting to know that despite abnormal findings on MRI correlation does not mean causation. Which explains why many people I know have had surgery and still have pain.
    I will be recommending anyone I know experiencing back pain to find a Mackenzie trained therapist.
    I'm an RN and have become disillusioned with mainstream medicine in often doesn't accurately find the cause for most conditions, many times it doesn't even look for causes and just treats symptoms.
    This was a extremely informative lecture, and great presentation, and has made me become extremely mindful of my posture throughout the day, and understand why I'm always feeling the need to stretch my back and neck.
    Now I have a better idea of which stretches to use to reverse the "C" curved posture that we engage in with so many activities.
    Thank you very much! Subscribed.

    I was a real skeptic, but the McKenzie Method works! I have been doing these stretches for about a month now. I have a slipped disc and a bulging disc right above it. These exercises (if you can call them that, they are so easy) have really helped me get my spine settled and the pain gets less every day. Centralization works. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain if it works for you too!

Now No discs are left from L3,4,5 S1. Electricity shooting in my leg I can't put my foot on floor. Compared to childbirth, at least labor pain goes away . Nerve pain actually doesn't stop unless lying in bed with legs elevated. I have to use pain meds to stand ,walk. Unable to walk in store anymore. Their are some of us that do need pain medication. Those that use just to get high ruined the ability for a lot of disabled people who need these medications for everyday things that are taken for granted. Especially for cancer patients and others who are in the background who can't be seen suffering everyday. Gov't can stick their guidelines in the closest hole to their sacrum.

      Ive been working on my disc herniation for 5 years and it has been bad and ok but it always comes back. Its debilitating and you cant get back into regular exercise. I always try to lift things with keeping hollow in my back as well as to do the mckenzies and it hasnt solved the problem. Ortho surgeon says I will have to have a spinal fusion and it wont improve by itself!

    • @amurgcodru
      @amurgcodru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It usually takes 6 weeks for the healing to occur. Now it depends on the severity and on a variety of factors. I know because my herniation and prolapses have a way of going and coming back. The important thing is to find a good physical therapist and get a good kinetic exercise plan. NExt, you need to increase your strength and do things properly. My whole family back issues (disc hernias etc), my mom and older brother where also proposed surgery a couple of times. None have gotten surgery yet, they manage it with physio and kineto therapy. Posture is extremely important. You need to move 4 hours a day!!!
      I'm with issues right now,last year I began Tai Chi and this year Feldenkrais which seem to help me A LOT. Good luck!

    Sorry, and unfortunately he missed probably the most important point of all. The number one cause of all sciatica that's not an injury comes from dehydration. Most people are somewhat dehydrated and many are chronically dehydrated which dries out the bones of the spine making more brittle making it easier for a disc to slip which would cause a herniation and resulting sciatica. My sciatica was so severe that three top surgeons recommended immediate back surgery. Luckily I met an acupressurist who gave me light treatment on the legs and spine, told me to eat turnips and drink 1 gallon of water a day with pink salt and drink fresh pressed Cranberries juice or whole fresh cranberries and within 3 days my satica was gone forever

    I have low back pain for past 6 years because of disc buldge .After a year it first occurred the pain has subsided But now its on and Off .. That is , on an average , i get sharp pain once 6 or 8 months . But the pain goes off in 2 days after a pain killer injection..
    Now the pain again occurred in last week of feb 2016 , I took a new MRI on March 2016. The Report reads "Annular rent with left paracentral disc protrusion and inferior migration seen at L5-S1 level narrowing the spinal canal, left lateral recess and compressing the thecal sac and descending S1 nerve root ( L) " ..
    But after few days , again the pain is off ..My question is
    What causes the pain ? if it is the buldging disc pressing on nerve , where does the buldge goes after few days when i am pain free?

    • @joeirvine4748
      @joeirvine4748 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      MRI findings for pain are highly unreliable. Unless you presenting with radiculopathy, with signs of sensation and myotomal changes from Disc bulge, and deficiets within your reflexs. Your findings are commonly found within asymptomatic patients and cannot be acuractly accounted for your symptoms. Here are some evidence of this www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4464797/ and there are numerous other studies indicating this. The mechanism for pain is complicated and is not always due to a structural issue. th-cam.com/video/u3EK9h4JQlo/w-d-xo.html Here is a great video, which is evidenced by the current literature. Which is probably far easier to understand than my explantion. Hope that helped.

    I have been fighting with a herniated disc for over 4 months now. This is by far the best tutorial on TH-cam I have seen. Almost daily I am on the Internet looking up exercises, fixes, therapies, medicines or types of food to eat or not eat. while that all of those are explained here this is by far the best explanation and roadmap. I felt like he was literally telling you my story. I have had to nerve conductivity test 3 x-rays two MRIs. The final diagnosis was radiculopathy L5 S1. Wish you all the best in your individual adventures.

    I have suffered for the past 4 yrs with back and hip pain, which in the past 4 months has developed into severe sciatic pain traveling down my right leg. I also have numbness and tingling in both legs and feet. I have been to numerous doctors and had spine MRI'S which show disc herniation, stenosis and nerve compression at L4-L5. As the pain in my right leg is intermittent and improves as the day progresses, I am very encouraged by the presentation Dr. Suprun gave. It was easy to understand and made more sense to me than anything I have heard yet! The trick now is finding a PT that practices the McKenzie Method. I live in the Los Angeles suburbs and hope to find one close to home! Thank you for a very informative video!!

I sat very straight, and put a pillow on my lower back to push my spine forward. When I got up, I had little back pain! I live near Chicago and I will look into a McKenzie Institute. Thank you.

    But once the jelly comes out of the disc, which usually happens within the L3, L4 & L5 region, there is no way to put it back. Its impossible. And thats when patients need to undergo a
    microendoscoptic discecotomy which takes an hour for a surgeon to do to remove the jelly aka the (nucleus pulposus) putting pressure on the nerve root branch behind it.
    Just make sure to instruct your surgeon that you do not want your spinoral process or Lamina to be removed or drilled by other methods of surgery.
    And that you only want the microendoscoptic discecotomy surgery, which allows the patient to recover 5x faster and only has to stay in the ICU for 24 hours for observation.
    You also have to take note that not all leg pain is because of the spine. A patient can have bursitis inflammation, labral tear (which will never heal on its own) and needs surgery,
    to correct the tear within the labral section, also it can be facet arthropothy or a torn muscle in the hip or gluteus maximus / minimus area of the muscle.
    Lets not forget the Piriformis muscle aka Piriformis Syndrome which also radiates down the leg and can reach the foot as well.
    Current surgical methods to treat Piriformis Syndrome include open or endoscopic decompression of the sciatic nerve by release of the piriformis muscle
    Piriformis Syndrome is characterized by buttock pain that radiates down the posterior aspect of the leg that is aggravated by sitting. Patients also report external
    tenderness near the greater sciatic notch.

    this is TRUE!
    I, too, am a PT for 25yrs now. COncentrate mainly on the root or exact location location where the pain started. It's not just DOING MASSAGE OR TENS OR PLACING HMP OR A STRETCH. Sometimes, just proper positioning alone for a few minutes, relieves the issue or is already a treatment. then follows other regimens.
