I was raised in the Church of Christ. When I got married, I was married by a COC minister and after my first child was born, I wanted him to be raised in church. We went for a few months and I was baptized. A few months later my husband was baptized. We went for 10 years and every time I asked questions, I was given lame answers and my husband was disenchanted with the idea that he had to be perfect. He quit going and I wasn’t satisfied with their explanations of scripture so my kids and I left and started attending a baptist community church. I started singing on the worship team and my husband came back to church! We have deepened our relationships with our Savior Jesus every year since leaving. Sitting here thinking though, and talking to my husband, we both had amazing experiences being baptized at COC! My husband was sore the next few days. I just remember being so happy!! I felt like I was clean and forgiven, but I also believe that is not when I was saved. I believe I was saved at teen night at the local church in my small home town when I was about 16 or 17. I remember when I would go to parties after that night I would feel like I shouldn’t be there and really feeling conviction in my spirit. That’s how I know Holy Spirit was already living in me. Sanctifying me daily! What beautiful memories! Wow. That was a long comment! Sorry!!

This is why Apostle Paul said its a Baptism of the spirit, A Circumcision of the heart.
      Romans 10:8-10 Authorized KJV
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation
      1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Authorized KJV
15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Thank you for sharing . Every time I hear a testimony of someone leaving those churches, the reason is so similar. There’s no hope, no assurance, no blessed hope. I thank God that we can obey from the heart and we are sealed. We have now a blessed hope and assurance that we have accessed by faith.

@@thirdplace3973 What he's saying is in order to contradict what this guy said in his opening statements. I did the same thing above. I do not doubt his sincerity, except in a few spots. I would never make a video saying "Conversation with a Baptist Church", then all throughout it the viewer comes to find out that he's never really spoken to a church of Christ. He's spoken to random people - and it's about like me talking to Shirley Phelps or Jim Standridge, then saying "I've talked to a Baptist Church." I hope his misrepresentations are honest. One doesn't score any points by misrepresenting a group of people. We do not call repentance, confession, or baptism "works", yet in order to make his case, he absolutely must do so - which hopefully is merely a sign of desperation and not dishonesty, although the two often go together.

      @@thirdplace3973But we’re not preaching Johns baptism. Acts 19 1-6
And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples
2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
3 ¶ And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4 ¶ Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”
5 ¶ When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
      John 3:22-27
      John 4:1
Both talk about Jesus baptizing people.
John 3:5 Jesus said “born again of water and spirit” Acts2:38 Paul said “repent, and let everyone one of you be baptized for the remission of sin; and you shall receive the Holy Spirit”. Both water and spirit. Acts 19 also confirms that. Every single time someone is saved in the book of acts, it is immediately followed by baptism. Not hey I’m a couple months we’re gonna go jump in the lake together and knock that out. Immediately upon believing. Ethiopian eunuch pulled his convoy over and said “here is water, what hinders me!” Phillip said “if you believe with all your heart” not eh don’t worry you already belief your good. So obviously Phillip taught him about baptism!

Maybe your specific congregation doesn't say that, but it is their dogma and has been since they became a church in the early 1800's.

    The Door with Michael Pearl
    "Regeneration..."
It seems the world has been in a state of every one of us not fulfilling a days recognition of what is actually occurring around us. That was a title of my poem, The Awakening, which I lost some time ago. It was definitely worth keeping, and ended up in a dumpster, where others found it. Myself and close others are now experiencing identity theft, having occurred many many years ago, but of this, which was only compounded by that event of letting something of myself go that I should have completely destroyed or kept safe. Thank you for being the one to bring it to everyone's attention that it's okay to talk about an experience. What is not okay is to put upon someone a horrible experience that will last their lifetime. Here we all go. As far as you having a inflatable pool for baptisms, there are a lot of empty parking lots these days. Hence, 'The Parking Lot Preacher.' But, when someone tells me that I am not a Christian, or not good enough, I think "How do you know?" How do any of us know who is what, when they can not bear to look us in the eye with the truth of a simple thing.

Thankyou brother for addressing this subject and for explaining it so clearly. There is one very important element though, which should be added here. When it is taught that by adding something to the way of salvation, whether it is baptism, the Lord's supper, keeping the law or whatever else, they are literally saying that what Jesus accomplished on the cross was not sufficient. In fact it is an afront to Him! Salvation is by Grace through Faith...PLUS NOTHING. What did Jesus cry out on the cross? IT IS FINISHED. The work of salvation is complete in Him. The only thing we have to do is to exercise "Repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ". Baptism follows salvation, not to gain salvation.

@@thedoormichaelpearl your ministry is a wonderful thing in explaining the truth of Gods Precious Holy Word. I would answer the above persons question with a simple yes because on the cross Christ Jesus cried out " Father forgive them for they no not what they do." Christ forgave them before or even if any of them ever repented of what they had done. Isn't it that way for all of us before Salvation, we were dead in our sins and to our unbelieving state ignorant of the fact that we needed the forgiveness paid for by Christ at Calvary. The Bible clearly states that Christ Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, I understand that as forgiveness but it's up to each individual to believe and receive this free gift of forgiveness. The book of Revelation 20:12-13 states the unbelieving dead are judged according to their works not their sins which implies there already is forgiveness just the natural choice of whether this forgiveness was accepted or not. Yeshua was on the cross reconciling the world to himself. I love brother Michaels teaching and enjoy his ministry very much, tell him from me his brother in Christ Jesus and a fellow preacher thank you and Blessings in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. Let me get this straight:
Being required to be baptized is Baptismal Regeneration. But Faith Alone which would be Believing alone, is Mental Assent. Why don't we just add the two together - He that has believed and has been baptized, shall be saved. I would not want to argue with the words of Jesus Christ, the son of God, after all Jesus is the only mediator between God and man.

Faith is not mental assent. Not in English, not in Hebrew, not in Greek. One who has faith is not mentally agreeing to something. They are actively placing trust in a person, not mentally agreeing to a truth claim. Faith and belief are not synonyms. EVER

@@thedoormichaelpearl I don't see it listed. Seems his view "for" in Acts 2:38 is inconsistent. Just looking for clarification. Why does he feel "because of" applies to baptism and not repentance? If he believes he applies to both, is he saying he believes we receive forgiveness BEFORE repentance?? Seems a valid question.

Just checking in. No answer. Too bad. Seems his explanation is at odds with translations. For example Acts 2:38
      The Voice
Peter: 38 Reconsider your lives; change your direction. Participate in the ceremonial washing of baptism[a] in the name of Jesus God’s Anointed, the Liberating King. Then your sins will be forgiven, and the gift of the Holy Spirit will be yours.
Seems he is trying to explain it away.

Any uncertainty comes from anything outside of our trust in the Lord> it does not surprise me, that there is doubt when your insecurities are from what you put security in. You cant add to our perfection in Him. God only operates in truth. He will have mercy, Go find what that means. In truth, operate in a love that is a gift, not something earned towards one another... You will understand!

no where does it say because of the remission sins. and ive had greek theologans with multiple PHDS tell me theres no way it means because of sins. the key word here is EIS in greek which means for.

I attended the Church of Christ for years and was even baptized in the Church of Christ, after I was "convinced by the elders that my original baptism 20 years earlier was ln error". Basically this is it in a nutshell: an automobile engine needs a distributor and without the distributor the engine will not work, it needs both! But later I understood after studying the levitical offerings that God commanded, that God would only accept the sacrifices "exactly" the way "He prescribed them", no less. & moore, but exactly, and the high priest would examine the ingredients prescribed as to their exactness.
Then, Jn 3:16 really came into perfect focus, God will not accept anything (added) to His prescribed finished work that his Son "completed on the cross". I no longer attend the COC.

I'm torn on this issues. The man on the cross next to Jesus was not bapptized but believed Jesus was the Christ. Acts 2:38 says "repent and be baptized". Baptism without faith is meaningless. Faith without baptism will save us. Baptism, to me, is a public testifying to faith.

This I know... Faith has to be the motive behind obedience (including baptism). If Baptism for salvation were impossible to be motivated by faith God would not call for it. That's like saying God is asking you to slap him (because anything we do without faith is sin). God requires you to obey by faith. He requires you to be baptized by faith. Just obeying without faith in it... you might as well not do it because it can't please God. We believe that God is the agent in the efficacy of baptism. We are not the agent in our baptism.

@@michaelpalmer7954 I believe what James says in chapter 2. Ephesians 2 does not and I can't scream this loud enough... Ephesians 2:8-9 does NOT SAY 'by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone'. You are practicing a deception of substitution where every time you want to use the weight of Ephesians 2:8 you have substituted it's material for your own reason. It is a blasphemous practice of deception! Anyone who does this 'alone, alone, alone' is a deceiver! Ephesians 2 focuses on from where justification comes. Grace is God's part, and Faith is our part. Here is where works are disqualified... if God did not proffer it. It MUST be by grace or it cannot be by faith. But we see that God does proffer Baptism for salvation and so we submit to baptism by faith and that justifies us before God. In contrast those who oppose baptism for the reason that scripture gives for it are screaming 'I believe' as the ark of God is ready to leave the station without those folks having gotten on board. You say that you believe and that is good... but even the demons believe. The difference between the demons and the unbaptized believer is that the demons have not been given a ticket.

I’ve debated many of these Campbellites online and they always proof-text Acts 2:38 as doctrine and not just a historical narrative about the birth of the church. They couldn’t care less what Jesus said in Acts 1:5 and Peter admitting in Acts 11:15-16 that he had no idea what Jesus meant in Acts 1:5 until the conversion of Cornelius some 4-5 years after the Pentecost event. Peter himself admits that he was in error on John’s baptism in water.

    • @nikeinjesus1
      @nikeinjesus1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@thirdplace3973, Acts 1:4-5 deals with Joel's prophecy, where he prophecised the Holy Spirit will fall upon on all flesh.
Now we know that the Holy Spirit did not fall upon every single flesh, so we need to determine what Joel meant by "all flesh."
In the NT the Holy Spirit fell only twice, which is Holy Spirit Baptism. Not to be confused with receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 1:4-5 Jesus is speaking only to his apostles, and the command to not leave Jerusalem until they receive the promise of the Father, is specifically for them.
When the Spirit comes with power on Pentecost, the apostles are baptized with the Holy Spirit. No one else is baptized with the Holy Spirit, neither the 120 mentioned in Acts 1.
The apostles are given the gift of speaking in tongues so that the nations gathered can understand the gospel clearly in their own language where they were born.
3000 obey the gospel and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, but not the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
From that point on every new convert received the gift of the Holy Spirit, and any signs, as tongues, prophecy, etc., came by the laying on of the apostles hands (Acts 8:18).
Ten years after Pentecost, God grants repentance to the gentile nation, and the household of Cornelius are baptized with the Holy Spirit.
This is 2nd and final time for HS Baptism.
When the Holy Spirit fell on the apostles, they represented the Jewish nation.
When the Holy Spirit fell upon the household of Cornelius, they represented the Gentile nation, fulfilling Joel's prophecy "all flesh."
When this happened, Peter points out that the same event had not occurred since the beginning, when the Holy Spirit fell upon them on Pentecost day. Ten years have gone by and no one else had been baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Search the scriptures for yourself, and you will not find anyone between the apostles and the household being baptized with the Holy Spirit. Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, yes! But not the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
What confuses alot of people is John's statement when he said "he (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire" (Mt.3:11). John was speaking to a mixed crowd, both saved and unsaved.
When the Holy Spirit fell upon the household of Cornelius, Joel's prophecy was fulfilled.
Another point that needs to be addressed, is that the purpose for Holy Spirit Baptism was never for forgiveness of sins.
When the Holy Spirit fell on the apostles, they were already forgiven under John's baptism (Mk.1:4-5).
When the Holy Spirit fell on the household, it was not for the purpose of forgiving their sins, but to prove to the Jews that God had granted repentance to the gentile nation. When Peter witnessed the event, he now understood the vision on the roof top, "What I have cleansed do not call unclean."
The Jews were now to share the gospel plan of salvation to the gentiles. Then Peter asked "can any man forbid "water" (H20), that these should not be baptized who received the Holy Spirit as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
Again, the purpose for the Holy Spirit falling upon the household, was not for the purpose of forgiving their sins, but to fulfil Joel's prophecy. The timing was to show to the Jews that God had granted repentance to the gentile nation. Read (Acts 11:14).
BTW, Peter did not admit he was in error regarding John's baptism in water. You totally misunderstood what he said.

I have really enjoyed this man’s teaching. This teaching is the exception. To trust and obey is to believe in Jesus or have faith in Jesus. Almost the entire Book of Acts tells us what we must do to be saved from sin and made right with God. All the Jews and Gentiles, including Paul, followed Peter’s instructions to believe Jesus is the Christ, repent of sin to the Father, be baptized in water to Jesus, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. His religious teaching disregards almost the entire Book of Acts. With his comment of how can water cleans us of sin, he would have a hard time believing that Naaman could be healed of leprosy by being baptized in water, 2 Kings 5. Saying one must be a Church of Christ member to be saved is accurate for the Word does not agree. But their other points are closer to Truth than this man. Take no man’s interruption without allowing the HS instructing as you read for yourself. Praise God.

I believe Jesus Christ commanded everyone who believed in him, to be baptised.
perhaps we should look at John chapter 3 where Jesus explains , ye must be born again, to
Nicodemus, verse 7( Marvel not that I said unto thee ye must be born again)
Where has our faith gone? where has our trust Gone, where has our belief gone, where is our obedience gone, yet we marvel over Gods word (ye must be born again.
It appears to me ,that if you cant except Gods word on baptism, your not saved, your not yet

My dad's family was C of C NON-instrumental, and my mom's family was C of C instrumental. In fact, both of my dad's parents were ACC/ACU faculty, professors.
So I was raised about as Church of Christ as you can get.
And I confirm, each faction thinks they're the ONLY ones making it to Heaven, everyone else is lost.
I am no longer in the C of C, but I still periodically get tripped up on the topic of baptism.
Your reading of the relevant verses, and examination thereof is reasuring to me.
There is nothing good in the flesh. It constantly fights the Spirit. But none of us can live our lives floating in the baptismal pool. After the 2nd or more time of getting baptized, the minister gets tired of putting on his waders, and the congregation will cease to stick around.
What really got me to turn for good, to desperately grab ahold of Jesus as a drowning man to a life-ring, was the understanding that came to me that I had so much pride and sin had seared my conscience to the point that ~I~ would never be disposed to asking God for help ever again, if not NOW.
Finally I had true repentance, and now I only serve ONE master all the time, and that is God. I don't try to serve two masters. I'm no longer double-minded. And now, sin and temptations are a LOT easier to resist!
I only have the Spirit. That is all. I have given up everything, and I am living in that mode of giving up everything, to God.
All I ever want is Jesus.
Most minutes of my day are spent in prayerful connection to God.
This immersion or swimming in God is a type of baptism. No waders or the attention of the minister or congregation needed, just the Spirit.

    Author: Ron Graham
Baptism and the Greek Word “eis”
    -What does the word mean?
This lesson is a study of the argument about the Greek word εις (eis). The question we answer is as follows: In Acts 2:38, does the Greek word εις mean (1) “in order to receive”, or does it rather mean (2) “because you have received”?
Here's the text: "Peter said to them, 'Repent and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ, for [εις] the forgiveness of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit' " (Acts 2:38).
    The little word εις
The English word “for” in the phrase "for the forgiveness of sins" translates the original Greek word εις.
εις -is usually pronounced “ice” or “ees”.
εις -is usually translated “into”, “unto”, or “for”.
The Argument on εις and Baptism
The argument regarding baptism says that, in Acts 2:38, the phrase "for [εις] the forgiveness of sins" means “because of the forgiveness of sins”. So the passage is made to say, "Repent and be baptised because of the forgiveness of sins".
This supposedly puts forgiveness before baptism, so that First one is forgiven by God and saved, and because of that, one is then baptised.
But why couldn't Peter mean that the forgiveness of sins is on offer and because of that, repent and be baptised to receive it? That would put repentance and baptism back before forgiveness, where they belong. Forgiveness by grace is the prospect; repentance and baptism (among other things) lead a person into that prospect.
    1 Repentance and Baptism
Notice that Peter does not speak of baptism only, but also of repentance. "Repent and be baptised..." (Acts 2:38). If the argument is correct that forgiveness is granted before baptism, then forgiveness is also granted before repentance. But the scriptures say that one must repent before forgiveness is granted.
On another occasion, Peter said, "Repent and return so that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19).
Peter did not say, “Repent and return because your sins have been be blotted out.” He said, "Repent and return so that your sins may be blotted out". Peter put repentance before forgiveness. He made repentance a condition of forgiveness.
And if Peter has put repentance before forgiveness, that's where he has also put baptism, because he gave both repentance and baptism the same relationship to forgiveness viz "Repent and be baptised... for [εις] the forgiveness of sins..." (Acts 2:38).
    The Men of Nineveh
We read that the men of Nineveh "repented at [εις] the preaching of Jonah" (Matthew 12:41).
It is sometimes argued that the word εις in this verse points backward because the preaching came before repentance. So the Ninevites repented because of the preaching of Jonah. They did not repent to get the preaching of Jonah. It is argued that in the same sense one is baptised because of the forgiveness of sins, not to get that forgiveness.
But that is not what is meant by Jesus. That is not a sound exegesis. Nineveh’s repentance involved a turning away from sin and turning to the preaching of Jonah. They repented in order to receive the benefits of Jonah’s preaching, to escape condemnation and to enter into the grace and salvation that Jonah preached.
    2 Faith and Confession
As another example of εις, take Paul’s statement, "With the heart one believes unto [εις] righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto [εις] salvation" (Romans 10:10).
In that quote the belief results in righteousness or justification, and likewise the confession results in salvation" (Romans 10:10).
Translators generally render this passage as though a heartfelt and confessed faith leads to justification. In other words salvation is the outcome of a confessed faith. Translators don't render the verse to say that faith and confession are because of salvation, and come after salvation.
    3 Baptism and Death
Jesus spoke of his, "blood of the new covenant, shed for many for [εις] the forgiveness of sins" (Matthew 26:28). The second instance of the word "for" is eis in Greek. As we all know, Jesus did not shed his blood because forgiveness had been granted, but so that it could be. This is another instructive parallel to Acts 2:38.
However it is even more instructive to examine how Paul relates baptism to the death of Christ and our death to sin (Romans 6:3-5).
Paul says, "Don't you know that all of us who have been baptised into [εις] Christ Jesus have been baptised into [εις] his death? Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into [εις] death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:3-4).
Now in this passage, translators put "into" for εις indicating that we meet and join Christ’s death and resurrection through baptism. We are "buried with him through baptism... so that we might [rise to] walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4).
So even if Peter (in Acts 2:38) said, “be baptised because of  [εις] the forgiveness of sins,” that would simply mean, “Be baptised because forgiveness is available. Christ’s death is your only hope of forgiveness. Because of that, be baptised into that death.”

Good study! I see alot of people miss about the baptism verses is the Greek meaning. instead opting for the English.
1st example: John 3:5, what Jesus say's this verse, there means no defining article on, "water", meaning "water" can only mean plain water.
2nd example: Mark 16:16, then This has the word (και) having the meanings: and, even, also. You see, if we replace the verse's words with all meanings of (και) it doesn't change what it says. This means, "And".
There a few more examples, but this proves there is no need to change what a verse says in English, as it means the same thing. Have a good day.

Baptismal regeneration was in the church from day 1. It is not a new teaching. Rejecting it is the teaching that was introduced.
Belief is not the central core. It is just one of the necessary components to salvation which he also mentioned: repentance, baptism, and confessing.

    • @HeLivesForever25
      @HeLivesForever25 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Baptismal regeneration means that the act of being immersed in water causes one's dead spirit to be given life. It is a pagan concept that the modern Churches of Christ borrowed from Jezebel due to the enlightenment in which God Himself was determined irrelevant to the Christian faith. Belief has been the central core since Abraham. It is the core of the Christian faith, and as a result of faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit supernaturally regenerates a person's dead spirit, giving the spirit of man life. I say "supernaturally" for your benefit. As a secular humanist, you do not understand that everything God does is supernatural, so I emphasize the obvious so that you can understand from your secular humanist worldview.
Baptismal regeneration is pagan Jezebel doctrine. True regeneration is done by the Holy Spirit Himself, not by water.

The greek word translated as for in acts 2:38 is "eis" it is always used with a view to or to recieve. It is never translated for because of. Its easy to look up in a greek dictionary. The new testament was translated from greek to english find out what the greek word definitions are. Your salvation depends on it in some cases.

    “For” what? Or what “for?”
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ [FOR] the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
It is taught here that Peter is saying that they were to be baptized FOR or “to get” reception of the forgiveness of their sins. And that, because of the word “for,” if one did not get baptized, one did not receive remission of sins. That tiny little Greek word (1519) eis is the qualifying element that demands this premise. And I believe this is correct. Its a very powerful word in the English language.
This verse amplifies the very same premise.
MT 26:28 “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many [FOR] the remission of sins.”
Here we are taught that the blood of Jesus, His very life, was shed on the cross in order “to get” the remission or forgiveness of sins. And that is understood that without that single act by Jesus, there is no forgiveness of sins! The word “for” most powerfully demands that foundational principle.
So far I'm confident that you are in agreement with me so far. But here comes the clincher!
Heb 9:28 “so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, [FOR] salvation.”
Do you see that same little most powerful word there? It's the same word as before. It is used the very same way as before. There can be no mistaking that! The prepositional phrase “for salvation” is the object of the verb “appear.” The language is very clear. Baptized FOR or “to get” forgiveness of sins. Blood shed FOR or “to get” remission of sins. Appearing FOR or “to get” salvation. It is the very same word and meaning!
If you demand baptism in order to receive forgiveness of sins; and the shedding of the blood of Jesus in order to receive remission of sins; then the appearing or second coming of Jesus MUST have occurred in order to receive the very salvation that He was bringing at His appearing! You CANNOT have it both ways! Its the very same word, used the very same way, with the very same meaning!

I believe that faith is the core of salvation as well. However, I don't believe this should even be an argument among Christians. Every time we see someone come to faith in Acts, they are immediately baptized. They don't take a class first, they don't ask if it is for their salvation, they don't wait a year, they simply do it. Whether you believe baptism is a part of salvation or not, everyone should do it because it is being an obedient Christian and it is a reflection of the early church. For salvation or not, just do it and you don't even have to ask.

Hello brother, thank you for your video teaching. Like you I have 3 church of Christ churches within 3 miles of me and I have noticed that 2 of the 3 won't associate with the one that has a piano but does seem to preach the gospel as we do. Concerning the verses used by most I have had conversations with you are correct in that they preach the plan not the man Christ Jesus. I have a question concerning Acts 2. In 2:38 it seems to me that read in the context of the passage that Peter is speaking to the very ones who had just had Christ crucified and being Jews who just killed their king wouldn't that require of Jews the ritual baptism like that that John preached? Peter seems to know the difference because Acts 2:21 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." tells us the same thing that Romans 10 tells us. So I guess my question is is there a difference between early Act which was talking to and about Jews and the later revelation to Paul to us gentiles? Thank You God bless and Merry Christmas to you and your family

I belong to the church of christ on the outer banks of north Carolina...my church has musical instruments and singing, they prefer you to be of age and saved and baptize before you you take communion, and I don't see anything wrong with that..I been going to that church for 12 years and I just found that the church is considered a cult and that blew my mind...they teach strictly out of the Bible..i guess each church is different......i will be investigating this and i will ask questions, this still bothers me...
    In my church..
I never heard that the only way to heaven is going to the church of christ
I never heard that being baptize is the only way to heaven
All you have to do believe in the lord jesus christ for your salvation and repent your sins....
And believe in your heart that jesus christ raised from the dead...
But I still believe that being baptize is important but not requisite to being born again...thanxs pastor
But I still will investigate this..

What is the Gospel, and where do I find it IN THE BIBLE? I have lived in MN, WI, MI, SC, and GA and almost no one, pastors included, could answer that question. Most people think they're "good people" and think they will go to heaven because of their "obediance"; don't even know the 10 commandments. Drop the denominational dogma and forget about your emotions and stand on the bible! Approach God (and your Bible) with a humble heart and obedience rooted in gratitude and biblical revelation will come.

Baptisim is rhe way that one is put into or enters the Family of Christ,or puts on Christ, and receives remission of past sins, (washed away) achieves a clear conscience towards God, Die with Him and raised in the newness of life, Born Again of water and the Spirit. So simple why do people do everything not except this biblical reality , WASHING of REGENERATION. Its not a work of man , its a supernatural work of GOD.

By quoting David in Romans 4 Paul makes it clear that forgiveness of sins is not a result of water baptism. Paul equates justification with forgiveness of sins. Further, he says that God justifies ungodly people by means of faith. In Romans 10 we are told that believing unto righteousness (i.e. justification) is an internal matter of the heart based solely on believing. Regardless of what is meant by "salvation" or "entering the Family of Christ" or "putting on Christ" or "remission of past sins", JUSTIFICATION, which is God's declaration of righteousness bestowed on ungodly people, is by faith solely as an internal matter of the heart when one believes God's testimony concerning his Son Jesus Christ.

Jesus could not obey the law for priestly purification because He was not a priest under Aaron, but under Melchizadek. That's why the law was set aside, so that Jesus could be a priest. His priesthood isn't valid under the law of Moses.

Don"t you have to do something in order to "gladly recive the word ?" Acts 2:41. Also Mk. 16:16, "Believe not " goes back to what it represents, ie. believe and be baptize, Mk 16: 16. Faith do not always mean the same thing through the Bible ie.Eph. 4:5; Heb. 11:3 ; Eph. 2:8 and Jude :3. All Refers to the system of doctrine not,"belief". Faith shows that grace enables for ; hearing, repenting, confessing, baptizing for the remission of sin in order to be saved and then added to the only Church that can be read about in the Bible, the Church of Christ. Prove me wrong❤

COC does teach baptismal regeneration but I have found most elders and preachers themselves don't even know the heresy. They also don't know history of Alex Campbell, Stone and how other cult leaders came out of the Church of Christ. Many COC do preach the gospel but they also teach baptismal regeneration, no eternal security, they put a lot of emphasis on work based faith, and even unconsciously or consciously replace work based faith with salvation faith on Lord Jesus Christ. I believe many elders lack theological studies and they don't even know the heresies that Campbell-Stone movement infested the church. Many COC members have zeal for COC only and they don't see baptists, methodists, etc as brother and sister in Christ. Many believe they are the only ones that go to Heaven. If you are in COC and don't find these at your church, then yours is better than some that are more legalistic. I had showed scriptures to confront COC elders, they choose to ignore scriptures and put their tradition above scriptures. A lot of the older COC are brain washed like that. If you show anything in contrary to what they want to believe then they shut down.

My grandmother was ill once when I was younger and I asked her if a cake would cheer her up. She said yes and I asked what kind she liked. She told me to get the blue recipe book and look for the Heaven Sent Chocolate Cake recipe and make that one. I didn't understand why the recipe called for that certain ingredient so rather than bother grandma I watched different cooks on TH-cam and none of them included that ingredient in their chocolate cakes, so I didn't pay attention to it. I gave grandma a piece of my finished cake, she took one bite and set the dish aside. "Does it not taste good?" I asked, "It's not 'Heaven Sent Chocolate Cake'" she replied. "Why do you say that, grandma?" "I can tell it's not the correct recipe, did you follow the recipe I told you? " I told her yes but I omitted one ingredient because I couldn't understand why it was necessary and the TH-cam cooks didn't include it in any of their cakes. She said she wrote that recipe to her liking and she could tell I didn't follow it. She thanked me but never had another bite of that cake.

Brother Michael, Help me out here, is my thinking biblical???
    1) The saving power in preaching the word, comes from God, not the Preacher
2)Jesus commanded everyone to be baptised
    3) Jesus is the word
    4) Jesus is the living water
    5) Following a command given by Jesus such as baptism would be because of our faith
in Christ our Lord and savior.
    6) If Jesus commands Baptism who among us has the right to question a command from
    our Lord and savior.
    7) Calling Baptism ( preposterous ) is not funny, its offensive to christians and disrespectful
May God guide us when speaking of the Gospel, May we choose our words wisely, In Jesus
    name Amen

I dont feel as though that those who question whether baptism is needed for salvation point to exceptions in the bible when it clearly gives instruction. Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

From Romans 6:4, it seems to me that water baptism is an instrument that promotes salvation through Christ. Avoiding baptism is a way of avoiding this entrance into the body of Christ. Michael Pearl did not mention these verses found in I John 3 (NKJV), which seem very germane to answering the question of whether of not an individual is saved:
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.
15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
Does the Church of Christ acknowledge these verses as being germane to answering the question of whether or not someone is saved?

If baptism with water was not important why did Jesus get baptized?
Then you go into the book of John chapter 3 Kings James version Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus about being baptized in water and spirit.
Then you go into the book ask the whole book is about being baptized with the holy ghost and water baptism.
So my question is if it's not that important why did Jesus have all his disciples baptizing at the same time is on the Baptist was baptizing?

Jesus didn’t teach water baptism in John. You had to be born first of water which is the analogy with a natural birth then be born of the Spirit which is the spiritual birth. Ceremonial washing of priests was required under the law. He’s our High Priest now.

So many people don’t understand verses in context. Acts was descriptive, not prescriptive. We receive the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins. When we receive, He gives us the Holy Spirit. He said IT IS FINISHED. Nothing else to be saved. We are commanded to take communion and get baptized by water as a remembrance of Him. Never anything else, however our works will determine our rewards.

Good works are what the saved do, not what they do to be saved. However, we all owe God a death, and there will be a day of judgement for all. When taken in context all conversions involved baptism (book of Acts). Some like to say "what about the thief on the cross". Jesus had not yet died and the New Testament not in effect. It's better to stand on solid rock than shifting sand.

    • @kl3625
      @kl3625 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@ Timothy I agree with you about standing on solid ground & obedience. But I memorized the book of John & if you read closely Jesus died before both thieves on the cross. That is why the soldiers did not break Jesus legs but instead pierced his side spilling blood and water. On the other hand, Jesus, knew The thieves heart and he also knew that the thief would not have a chance of being water baptized. I have gone to the Church Of Christ in my town and it is a wonderful church. Better in so many ways than many of the other churches. It is very difficult because I do believe you are saved by faith but should be baptized as soon possible because Jesus said so. Also if you think about it Jesus was baptized and the Holy Spirit came down ascended on him like a dove. Why wouldn’t we want to follow Jesus example. Another thing, many churches take baptism way too lightly and it does not land with scriptural examples. For example, they wait and only have baptisms every six months making a group baptism. I don’t know why, is this laziness? Is it because they don’t want to heat up the baptismal? Is it because they’re not taking baptisms seriously?

It was truly the bad news not the good news. Yes, they believe in sinless perfectionism BETWEEN "sins". If you don't repent before you die, you are lost. It was legalistic, judgmental and contentious. They believe they are the only ones saved. The Church of Christ AND their doctrines save you. They believe that scripture IS the Holy Spirit. No wonder they don't know. They have no witness of the Holy Spirit.
