Well mark is obviously being humble because a large percentage of guitarist cannot play periphery stuff and allot of videos you go to people complaint about the complexity, but whether you find it complicated or not depends on the person, they are expert category guitar players, why do I believe this? because all their songs combined incorporates many different guitar techniques from a multiplicity of genre's. Lesser skilled guitar player are just highly influenced by this not idol-ism.
It's in drop Ab on a 7, but you could get away with tuning down to that since the tabs say that he doesn't play the last string. But, you will probably need to get heavier strings or you'll be super floppy when you try to play it.
Yea man, I've already been studying music for a year and I have a completely new appreciation for Rhythm playing, I mean I always did think Rhythm was something important, but not as important and technical as wanking, but now after an introduction to this whole world of just technique, its completely amazing and I certainly feel that Rhythm is the most technical and most important of the bunch, and its cool XD I watch these videos for the geek out, so I enjoy it.
The Faceless is fucking amazing. For those of you who don't know what band is on his shirt, basically they were the best pure Deathcore band on the planet. Used slams AND breakdowns. The Faceless - Leica This explains why Mark is so solid, he probably studied the band for years.
I'd say the first album is a mixture of types of metal. I will say though that death core in 2006 sounds completely different than death core in 2015. Regardless the album bleeds necrophagist throughout it. Horizons of chaos especially. Compare it to say, seven from necrophagist. But in the end. It's brutal awesome metal, regardless of what genre we perceive it as.
GOSH finally after looking all over for the correct way to play this, it's kinda hard just to tell what people are playing from looking at their hands lol. I noticed the Guitar Pro tab I was using was a little off...
Lol I agree. Yeah in jazz you have chord soloing, pivot chords, deceptive resolution, reharmonization, allan holdsworthisms as i call them etc. I'm studying it now really blowing my mind. Excuse random geek out. But it's hard to explain to people but there is more to complexity in music than just soloing and shredding.
Has anyone noticed, that the headstock is bit different, I mean on the fretboard there's JP12, but headstock looks like one of the oldest music man petrucci, or I'm just blind
My friend if you believe anyone can play rhythm guitar I will refer you to the always present Dream Theater... people make a big fuss about John Petrucci's solos, but its actually his rhythms which will catch yo off guard, moral is: Anyone can wanker around in the guitar, it takes a real musician to actually write a rhythm section or a melody section, hell even harder, it takes skill to write a melodic solo section which fits perfectly with the rhythm, take in point Chimp Spanner and Intervals.
i would respectfully disagree. I'm a lead player, but i really struggle to find a good & solid groove when i write for myself. They often tend to be pretty boring. If I DO have a good rhythm guitarplayer, then im flying colors. I think it's just a matter of what you practice the most which comes easiest.
in a syncopated manner, meanwhile the leads charged with melody (which is much more technical than soloing even) and soloing, although having a heavy set of rules they all sum down to one thing, There's no rules, everything is valid, yes it can be hard, but wankering isn't as hard as Rhythm and if you want more proof, I will refer you to Devin Townsend, who will definitely agree with my statement.
Kind of hard to hear what exactly he is playing when it sounds like it's being played through a marshall mg. I don't expect huge multi-thousand dollar rigs. But if you are a company that films guitarists, at least have them play through something decent for fucks sake.
And your point is invalid though... You see I know you don't have a formal education in music or have developed your instrument (if you even play one) to actually play and notice what I'm saying. In Jazz, the most technical of music out there, the rhythm is definitely the hardest part, and soloing is very simplistic in nature, reason why, chords change erratically and phrasing of these chords just take extreme extreme measure almost always playing behind beat, ahead of beat or just playing...
no reason to start being rude.every skilled guitar player will say that rhythm is as important as lead.oooh yeaaah youre so right mastodon doesnt have lead at all hahaha, was that a joke ?
What the fuck kind of music are you listening to.... 4 chord pop songs? Cause that's the only way I can accept this comment as valid... I mean jeez man... have you ever heard Chick Corea's Humpty Dumpty... the solo and melody is crap compared to the masterful use of phrasing for each chord, I doubt anyone could just figure out the chords of that song and time of each chord in one sit down.... This conversation is like if I was having a chat with an 11 year old me....
he always makes the best riffs out of the band!
this intro clip is like one of the greatest things i seen xDDD so good
It's amazing to me how these guys compose these riffs that don't make sense on their own but fit so well in the songs
WHY DO YOU SAY IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE FFS THIS RIFF IS FRUSTRATING ME BIG TIME NOW
And he also wrote the "Rhythm Solo" in Ji. He is fucking amazing.
"Facepalm Mute"
Fantastic freaking song.
Pure Riffery
"Pretty simple really"

If someone doesnt know who the faceless are in 2014, they are doing it wrong
+kingplutoxiao1 "deathcore"
Their first album is
I'd still consider it more tech death than deathcore
I'd say the first album is a mixture of types of metal. I will say though that death core in 2006 sounds completely different than death core in 2015. What's the name of the song they play in the beginning. They seem like an interesting band and I want to get into some of their music.
What guitar is he using? That thing looked beastly!
GOSH finally after looking all over for the correct way to play this, it's kinda hard just to tell what people are playing from looking at their hands lol. I noticed the Guitar Pro tab I was using was a little off...
Who would you recomend to be their Djent style guitar idols? please I'm intrigued.
does anyone know what string gauge he uses? thanks
The song in the start!
Which is it..???
the faceless shirt.
I love this fuckin riff!
What's that intro song?
Mraky Mrak has got to be my favorite of the Periphery guitarists.
man, its eeman its even more badass with him just playing, in the song it kinda gets like not shown in justice prolly cuz of so much in the mix lol
i want that guitar so fucking much

Yeah, dude, pretty simple x'D!!!!
"Pretty simple really" lol mraky u so funnnyyyyy
i like it..
he wrote basically the whole first album for haunted shores
Try listen to Harrison Fjord, that's Mark's signature songwriting style
'finally' a reason?

so jealous of that guitar
I know right, doesnt that make you sick? He plays these incredibly intricate riffs then says "Oh yeah simple riff."
Axe-FX usually means way too much gain.
in a syncopated manner, meanwhile the leads charged with melody (which is much more technical than soloing even) and soloing, although having a heavy set of rules they all sum down to one thing, There's no rules, everything is valid, yes it can be hard, but wankering isn't as hard as Rhythm and if you want more proof, I will refer you to Devin Townsend, who will definitely agree with my statement.
Dude I got a guitar lesson from him and got to play that very guitar :) best day of my entire life.
Good yob mrak
It's so weird you say that...I'm just about to go to sleep too and this is the last thing i'm gonna watch
Great video to end my life
久しぶりに何やってるか分からへんリフキタ━(゚∀゚)━!な。
Something like that
well then play me some Mastodon rhythm guitar please
Musicman JP signature...
"yeah, pretty simple really !!!! "
Kind of hard to hear what exactly he is playing when it sounds like it's being played through a marshall mg. I don't expect huge multi-thousand dollar rigs. But if you are a company that films guitarists, at least have them play through something decent for fucks sake.
hahah how is it not working
Das Faceless!!
hes wearing a The Faceless shirt... oh yes
silly mraky mrak, doesn't realize we're just mere mortals and this is not simple for us Non-Periphians
Was gonna say nice Periffs but Peripheriffs sounds way better.
John Petrucci Ernie Ball Music Man Signature, I'm jealous...
Came here to say that! hahahaha
Periphery are actually using very little gain on their tone
He is one oily dude. Wow.
Dat Faceless shirt
The Crunchlab sounds like a piece o' shit in my guitar. I have a feeling the wiring is fucked up though.

Axe-FX.
pretty simple...said no one ever
yp

Ernie Ball Music Man
I don't think so. This does not sound like an Axe-Fx. Just way too much gain.
Saying something like a guitar riff is simple is pretty relative to the skill set of the listener/player.
oche pancrii
No shit, Sherlock.
Simple lol! Uh ya.
I love Mark and think he's super talented, but the riff did seem kinda sloppy.
Facepalm Mute
O_o What?!!! Ummm... Fuck.
que musica tan pedorra!!
...such a facepalm mute
Whatever amp he is using here is not working for the style.
What the fuck kind of music are you listening to.... 4 chord pop songs? Cause that's the only way I can accept this comment as valid... Pretty sure his guitar is out of tune.
Facepalm mute :)
Facepalm mute!
horrible tone, hardly any definition

that amp sounds awful
Facepalm Mute
