Ladies, watch it again. The thing he won’t do changes throughout. He always mentions something like “forget”, followed by “I won’t do that.” Particularly pay attention to the part with the woman singing. She says his love will grow cold. “I won’t do that.” She says he will cheat, “I won’t do that!”

The thing he won’t do, Meat Loaf said, is spelled out in the line before the chorus kicks in. In the lyrics, for example, he’s saying he would do anything for love, but he won’t ever “stop dreaming of you every night of [his] life.”
In fact, four such promises are made during the course of the song, each time before a chorus kicks in. In addition to saying he’ll “never stop dreaming of you,” the singer also says he’ll “never forget the way you feel right now,” “never forgive myself if we don’t go all the way,” and “never do it better than I do it with you.”
Or at the end in response to the woman’s line “Sooner or later you’ll be screwing around”.
I've never understood how people miss it, as he spells it out.
It is because Steinman's songs are extremely poetic. And most people aren't listening to the song so much as the music.
The one song I wish Meatloaf had sung by Steinman, was a song that shot Bonnie Tyler up the charts, 'A Total Eclipse of the Heart'. Even if he only did a cover of it, to see his take on its theme.

Meat Loaf is the greatest performer that no one has heard of. But in the 1970's his music was magical. He started out in the theater, for example he played Eddie in the cult classic movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and his music shows it. Most of his music was written by Jim Steinman, who played the piano in most of his songs. His album, Bat Out Of Hell, was one of the best selling albums of all time, yet most folks say that they have never heard of him. All of his music is like a mini rock opera. He plays a part with his voice in all of his music. Other videos of his are also dramatic and full of emotion. Songs like Bat Out Of Hell and You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth have videos that are similarly dramatic to watch. But his performances are amazing.

He is a World famous Singer, actor and performer. He has been in over 60 movies, his records have sold tens of MILLIONS of records world wide, his first album is one of the largest selling records in history.

And I've been mesmerized ever since. He could sing the phone book to me and I'd be "That's the best phone book singing I've ever heard." Just my opinion. And, yes, he is fantastic in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, as Eddie. I love watching people watch him for the first time.
You missed the answer at the end. She sings, "sooner or later you'll start screwing around" and he quietly answers "I won't do that".
It’s in the song. The lady sings “I have been down this road before. Eventually you will cheat” paraphrasing he replies “I won’t do that”

Meatloaf was noted for his powerful, wide-ranging voice & theatrical live shows. His "Bat Out Of Hell" trilogy albums are all time best-sellers. "Two Outa Three Ain't Bad" is my favorite song by Meatloaf. I enjoy his ballads the best such as "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "I'd Lie For You (And That's The Truth)", "Dead Ringer For Love" (duet with Cher) etc. Sadly he passed away at the beginning of last year.
"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" is the prototype for every other Meat Loaf song to play off of. Definitely should be next.

This guy battled illnes in later life , and actually collasped on stage due to a diabetic episode , they revived him after a while and he wouldnt go off stage , he asked the band where were we in the show and carried on , true performer and a great guy Meatloaf RIP

I had the wonderful opportunity to see Meatloaf in concert and his live performances were so much more intense than his recordings.
I saw him at the NEC Birmingham in the UK and had seats at the side of the stage edge so we could see thing sgoing on backstage and when they were coming onto stage etc. Had the giant bat balloon not deflate properly so they had to send someone to go and crawl along the ceiling rigging to fix it. Also would always get waves off the performers as they came up backstage ready to go on. wasnt long before we were out the seats and standing at the railings instead lol,plus had his daughter join him and sing on there, was brilliant.
Watching people fall in love with Meat Loaf is brilliant. He's one of those artists that people absolutely love, and you're starting to find out why. Your faces at the end were awesome.
Meatloaf was an actor on Broadway years before he became a singer. Movie wise he was in "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Fight Club", and "Wayne's World" among a lot of others. Another song you should check out is "Dead Ringer for Love" which is a duet with Cher.

Great job ladies with your reaction to I would Anything for love but I want do that from Meatloaf . Knowing what you just heard and saw from him and his team that's he is still not In the Rock and roll Hall is unreal and unjust and unimaginable. Meatloaf is a heldentenor. It’s one of the rarest opera vocal types.
I've watched this music video many many times. Meatloaf's acting is simply brilliant. The moment when he lifts his head off her shoulder and his face has changed to human, you can see realisation in his eyes just before he starts to lift his hand up to his face (10.15) .... and then they fade out. He deserved to have been much more in films- his theatrical ability is only matched by his enormous energy and beautiful singing voice. RIP great man

This was his great comeback record..brilliantly sung and another masterpieces of song writing from the late great Jim Steinman. The woman in the video is Dana Patrick but the vocals were actually sung a a little known singer from the UK called Lorraine Crosby. When you say the words Meat Loaf…you think Bat out of Hell…his statement piece. One you definitely need to react to (the full album version though, not the radio edit single otherwise you will miss out on an epic intro) 😊

Lorraine Crosby, aka Mrs Loud, was the female vocalist in this video. Though you don't actually see her as her part is played by Dana Patrick, who mimes her lyrics. Lorraine gets to cover this song in her own shows, she also gets royalties from the original.
This video was done by Michael Mann (Miami Vice) that's why it has the big 1980's type flashy production.

Well you can listen to the female singer when she sings,"Sooner or later you'll be screwing around" and Meatloaf's character replies, "No I won't do that!" I still remember when Meatloaf was interviewed on the Tom Snyder "Tomorrow" show in the 70's. Tom's first question was, "Can I call you Meat, or would you prefer Mr. Loaf?" Meatloaf explained how he got his name in HS on the football team. The coach was teaching the boys how to tackle. When it was Meatloaf's turn he knocked the coach over and landed on top of him. The coach yelled, "Somebody get this meatloaf OFF of me!" THat became his HS nickname and his professional name for the rest of his life.
Meatloaf was always been great and now we lost him. RIP brother, we are all still listening to your great music.
The song was written by the late great Jim Steinman, who wrote and produced all of Meatloaf's albums. He along with Todd Rundgren created some the best rock operas in music history. Every song takes you on a journey and ties into the songs on the rest of the album. Steinman also wrote Holding out for Hero for Meatloaf but he was filming a movie and recorded it with Bonnie Tyler instead. It was the biggest hit of her career and has been used in numerous films over the years. Most famously used in the Shrek movie hero scene, which introduced it to a younger generation.
The song you're thinking of is actually Total Eclipse of the Heart. Steinman wrote and produced both songs for her, but Total Eclipse of the Heart was her biggest hit.

What he will not do is ever lie to her or forget her. That is said in the song. He also says he will not mess around on her, cheat, or leave her. This is what I get from the lyrics, and video.
If you like Meatloaf at all, 2 out of 3 Ain't Bad, is a must listen, and a great video. For many people it is his greatest song and performance. Of course it has it's own special twists, in a performance that only Meatloaf can do as well as he did it. There is a reason Meatloaf is a rock legend.

The things he won't do in the beginning are directly confront her or try to force a relationship. Then when the woman sings she says he'll get bored with her, he says I won't do that. She says he'll start sleeping around, he says I won't do that. The scene where she hugs him is so powerful. When he pulls his head back and you see his face through her eyes and he's no longer disfigured like he sees himself when he smashes the mirrors. That has always hit me so hard. I've been a Meatloaf fan since dashboard came out decades ago. My daughter and all her friends fell in love with him in Rocky Horror Picture Show. He has such control with his voice, his ballads always brought such emotion. His passing last year was a huge loss to music. Jim Steinman wrote most of his music which Steinman described his writing style as "Wagnerian Rock". Steinman's writing catalog is the background music for a lot of the 80's and 90's.

The actress in the video, Dana Patrick is lip singing Lorraine Crosby's vocals. The story behind Lorraine Crosby on how she she got the job was that the recording for I Would Do Anything For Love was to take place in the studio and the female vocalist that was hired didn't show up and Lorraine Crosby was in the studio making a record and they asked her to stand in and low and behold she did extremely well they used her take. And she didn't take any credit for it. And this became a MASSIVE HIT globally! 2x Platinum in Australia, Platinum in Germany, Platinum in the Netherlands, Platinum in New Zealand, Gold in Switzerland, Platinum in the UK and Platinum in the US!

I saw him twice on the Bat Out of Hell tour Once Pov Ri and then Hertfort Conn. He was one of the best all time stage performers. Now we will never seen him play live again and that is a lost to all humanity

He and I shared a campfire many years ago. His wife's niece was marrying a local guy who was a roadie for another famous rock star, so they came to the wedding just outside of Port Matilda, PA(pop: 640). We sat outside at the fire up in the mountains while everyone else was inside drinking and smoking; something neither he nor I did....not anymore at least. He was this famous singer and I was a retired Navy "spook". We'd both travelled everywhere. and been in a lot of strange situations, so we traded stories for a couple of hours. I still have, and play, his music.
