  • John Thurtell could have had a good life if I had followed his fathers path instead his actions would lead to the noose and the blood of another man on his hands.

    Fascinating, I grew up , in the sixties, just outside Radlett. My Mother's parents lived in Gills Hill Lane. I'm pretty sure part of Gill's Hill Lane was signposted Murder Lane. I often wondered if a murder had really taken place there. Excellent video.

    You are a fantastic story teller, I really enjoyed listening to this. Thank you for all your hard work researching and presenting it.
    Given John's problems in school, I wonder if he had ADHD or something similar? Or perhaps he was just a wrongun.

    Great story researched in such detail. I used to walk along Gills Hill Lane in the dark on the way home from school in the sixties. There was the remains of a burnt down summerhouse where it was reputed a man had once been murdered and beheaded and his head rolled downhill into a stream.

    Press Gangs used to fill the crews of British Ships was a continuous bone of contention with America. Mutiny was often always just over the horizon, thus the Royal Marines chief duty was to suppress such, or even the idea among the crews. Contrast that with American Navy crews which were voluntary. Among Americans, the Royal Navy was a considered a threat to the American Navy right up to and even shortly after World War I

    You've really done an outstanding job on your content, and i don't want to negate the appreciation with constructive criticism.
    Try moving back just a bit while speaking; your levels aren't necessarily off, just your plosives, taking away from your narration as they are overcompensated and sound...uh...kinda like an English cousin to daffy duck that had speech therapy??? If that makes sense anyway.
    I think just a bit of space from the mic would work...

    • @alittlebitofhistory
      @alittlebitofhistory  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for letting me know, keeping more space between me and the mic should be easier now as I am no longer using the one built into the laptop I am reading the sprit from so hopefully this will improve.

      I didn't know this until a week ago but if you tap the screen as if to pause it a gear icon appears in the top right corner. If you tap that, a menu pops up and there's an option called 'playback speed', and you can tap that to speed up or slow down the speed of the video.
