    On Thursday, a modified passenger B747 Jumbo Jet, painted with the face of a tiger, landed in the Namibian capital of Windhoek to ferry the big cats. The plane will take off from Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek with eight Namibian wild cheetahs, five females and three males, on board.

      @brijeshshukla4696 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sinatra7407 Absolutely not. I completely disagree. This takes us back to the big question. What exactly is the purpose of this re-introduction? African cheetahs are not indigenous to India. Asiatic cheetahs are long gone. What exactly are we achieving by introducing them? If it is the conservation of African cheetahs, then why not focus first on Indian endangered species like the India rhino, tiger and gir lions. Then the question we need to ask is, can a different sub-species be a replacement for another? Introduction of siberian tiger genes in Dudhwa has already made the tigers there racially impure, genetically. When it comes to conservation, sub-species can be considered different enough to not be a replacement for another. But this is a contentious point of view with arguments for and against it. My personal opinion is, this does nothing for the indian wildlife except being a show of sorts. I would have been supportive of this move had cheetah been imported from Iran , being the asiatic variety. That would have been re-introduction. Not this.

      2. Yes I agree that different sub-species cannot be a full replacement for indigenous species, but they would help in maintaining the ecosystem. With the extinct of cheetahs in 1952, the open grassland ecosystems were constantly degrading.
      3. When the Wildlife Protection Act was introduced ( I believe in 1972 ), Indian government was already working with Iran to re-introduce cheetahs, but for some reasons it did not progressed.

    The western world love trophy hunting and it’s funny how people believe that’s actually good for wild life. I guess this guy here believes that too.
    But translocation is bad. This would be a hit just like the save tigers projects.

    • @adiset1236
      @adiset1236 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trophy hunting removes the vulnerable individuals in a population like the old and scared to bring in new individuals to mate and increase the diversity in the gene pool of that species so yes trophy hunting is good for some animal species. And the concern is obvious the wild is not like a zoo where man feeds every layer in the ecosystem to keep it sustained. The wild has its own structure introducing a new species will burden the other layers. You don't just take any organ and put in your body. Your body needs to accept it and to increase the chances doctors give you medication induce coma etc etc.. So he's right we should be concerned with investing on a project that may or may not go well, because we haven't done the prep work. Introduce more prey to balance it out or decrease threats so it has a fighting chance. Being critical about your governments desicion is your right so don't call out on people who think it's wiser to make libraries, schools and hospitals rather than statues all over the country.

    I think that introduction of CHEETAH in Bharat will be successful.
    CHEETAHS existed in India about 70 years ago.
    It is a great path breaking initiative by The Government of India.
    I disagree with Valmiki Thapar.
    If Cheetahs can survive in Africa alongside Lions , Leopards , Hyenas, Crocodiles , Hippopotamus, Rhinoceros, Elephants and African Buffalos then they can also survive in Madhya Pradesh in a Jungle where there are no Tigers. Even most of the Leopards have been removed from the area. This means that CHEETAHS are the Apex Predator in that area in Madhya Pradesh.
    There is abundant prey in this area.
    CATS have the inherent ability to adapt into different Environments and ecosystems.
    This is main reason that CATS are found in very diverse landscapes across the World.

    Valmik is absolutely right. He is thinking from biodiversity perspective. Every organism has had a symbiotic nature with its environment. This action of the government is just like introducing Siberian tiger, which is a native of taiga region into the sundarban jungle which is native to the Royal Bengal tiger. Nature does not work like that. Cheetahs are natives of grassland and india is full of bogs and marshes. We have snow leopards, vultures,chiru, pashmin goats, etc that are going extinct. These animals are indegenious species. We should make an effort to protect them not bring exotic animal for another masterstroke fanfare. If we take a little effort, our odds of successes are more. I felt that the argument made was quite poignant. However, the questions asked by the anchor was not hard-hitting enough. If a little pre-study about biodiversity had been done by the news channel, we would have had a great educational talk. But alas, these days media serves the purpose of entertaining rather that educating and dissemenating information.
