  • Take a drive up to Mount St. Helens in Washington State. This video shows just how much of the mountain you can see from State Highway 504 in the summer of 2023. This is just after the road closure of May 2023 due to a landslide near milepost 51. Johnston Ridge Observatory is not reachable because the road is closed at milepost 43. This video will show you that indeed the mountain is out and worth the drive on a clear day to see the landscape, crater (blast zone) and Toutle River Valley. Prior to your visit check to see if the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center and the Mt. St. Helens Forest Learning Center are open to visitors. Pack a picnic and enjoy learning about the recent history of this beautiful volcano and rebirth of the ecosystem since the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mt St. Helens.

Was there May 2023. More beautiful. It's changed more since the last time was there in 2007.

    Was there today. Still closed.
Park ranger told me .9 miles hike from the current parking lot at the end is a great view. Also up at the education am center is open. 7 miles farther away than Johnston Ridge though.

It looks like it’s getting much greener than even 3 years ago. Thank you for this video. So nice. Anybody know why the road stops there? Has it never been completed since the last eruption?

@@phreakerbythespeaker9902 Make sure you walk along the new waterfront. I did today and it is wonderful. I can see St Helens on a clear day from my apartment.

Had no idea there were gates to close off the area leading to the mountain.

It is a shame that all this recreational area is locked down. I do not believe that was the intent of the road built after the eruption. Remaining facilities are in disrepair, while this vast recreational area remains locked down. Plenty of amenities in the offices of agencies in charge.
