My brother and I were inspired to use household items. I loved Raph so I used forks. My Brother was obsessed with Donatello so he had a croquet mallet. When I woke up in the hospital, I realised the value of range weapons. Thanks Turtles!
3rd 1 was such an underrated movie that's when they go back in time I actually really like that one I don't get why everybody hates on it just because it's not the most popular 1
This movie, alongside Jurassic Park, is the reason I am such a practical effects fan. I don't care how far CGI goes, it will never be able to look as good as the turtle suits. The level of performance the Jim Henson shop was able to achieve is absolutely mind-blowing. To me, the illusion is so seamless that I sometimes forget that they aren't real. I get no such feeling from the new Michael Bay turtles. I wish we could have more movies like this, we reached the pinnacle of practical effects in the 90's and then all but abandoned it, and it drives me nuts. Why bother honing a craft to perfection over decades only to trade it in for something else?
The blanket "CGI sucks and ruins everything always" complaint grates on me, but I get where some of it starts. Fully CG characters can be brilliant and beautiful and amazingly moving (watch the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy if you don't believe me. . . and yes, that's "performance capture" not pure CGI, but a lot of CG interpolation is still required to bring the character to life, and if it doesn't look photorealistic it doesn't matter how good the performance is). But the best trick is always the blending of tricks. Before CGI, if you used puppets, miniatures, prosthetic makeup, stop-motion, and rubber suits in combination, each for what it was best at, the subconscious part of your brain that tries to pick apart the illusion and see how it was done gives up and accepts it as real. Same now with CGI: It does a lot very well (and, after all the years of development and refinement, very cheaply), but if you stick to just CGI, it's easier for your brain to figure out the trick and paste "FAKE!" on it. But combine it with advances that are still being made in practical effects, and if they match, you once again trick that subconscious part into giving up, thinking that if it can't figure out the trick, it must be real, so you accept it as such.
@@erikbjelke4411 I was born too late to grow up with practical effects being the norm, but often times they look better than modern effects. The Jurassic Park movies and Ghostbusters are great examples of this. A lot of CGI looks kinda weird, and "slimey" for lack of a better term. Stop motion isn't as convincing, but it looks entertaining to watch, and can sometimes blend into the world of the movie. Terminator and Robocop come to mind. Even if it wasn't a great movie, the Flintstones blended puppets and CGI better than most films.
I love Rahzar in this film. I think he looks so freaking awesome. He's my favorite TMNT mutant. Anywho, love your channel Cecil. I've been binging it all day everyday for weeks now. You're the best!
Yeah, at least in the first they fought him for a little while. In this one Keno was the only one who even hit him! Turtles 3 wasn't terrible, it was just a major disappointment. If they would have just stuck to NY in the present it would have been fine but the whole back in time thing was lame. (except for the game Turtles IV, which is awesome)
Thomas Jenkins that's the thing, they made the story out like they never saw the mangled body of shredder in the dumpster, since it stayed closed, and since it just tilted and dumped the garbage out in the dump, shredder escaped jailtime and even death somehow to get another shot at the turtles.
That part with Vanilla Ice, I'm pretty sure it's supposed that Vanilla Ice improvised the "Ninja Rap" while the incident was happening, it's rap, you know. There's a scene where he and the dancers are looking at each other and it looks like he's getting ready "to start his freestyle", so, no, it wasn't he just happened to have a ninja rap already prepared.
Thanks! Exactly. It showed how they had become more of a family. I think the first one struck the perfect balance of light and dark. I have a feeling that if they continue it now it will be really dark...which is ironic since that comic book it stemmed from was very dark but most folks just know the lighter side from the movies and tv shows.
The thing where he says all who challenge step forward reminds me of the original transformers with starscream and him trying to take over command the decepticons.
I absolutely loved the first two movies, but this was the one I owned on VHS as a kid and watched probably 10 million times, so there are definitely some fond memories here (and how about an honorable mention to the run of trailers on the VHS? I WAS FROZEN TODAY!)
Just discovered your reviews. Fantastic stuff. I love Good Bad Movies and you know your stuff. INtroduced me to many I missed. Something about the time period that seems to be missing in today's market. I like the grittiness and lack of CGI in the 80's/90's movies.
I had a super shredder action figure when I was younger, he was almost always the main bad guy in the scenarios I would play out. Forgot how often I would watch it
The first one...I just rewatched it at 34 years old... Damn it's good. There are a few questionable moments, but for the most part... It's truly great.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I don't believe in background music. Often, people use background music to conceal that what they are saying isn't strong enough to stand on its own. Just a personal preference for me. ^^
Actually them not using their weapons makes perfect sense. They are in close quarters, these robbers are mediocre (at best) and what are you expecting?! "A-stealing we go, a-stealing we shall go." *TMNTs enter* "Duudes you have got to stop stealing those boxes?!" "You tell 'em, Mikey!!" *idiot robber steps forward, lifts mask to reveal face.* "What's it to you?!" *Leo steps up to robber.* *Leo draws swords* *Leo carves the robber into several pieces* *Mikey throws up* *robbers scatter* *Kino skedaddles* *Raph walks over to talk to Leo* "Leo?!" "Yes?!" "Are you feeling okay?! "Yes." "Are you sure?!" "Yes I'm sure. Why do you ask?!" "...no reason.'
Don't care what anyone says, even though I'm an 80's baby and grew up with these turtle films, the new one by Michael Bay is by far the best one. Action, comedy, had it all, and best part, NO ALIENS. It's just the popular thing nowadays to hate anything Michael Bay is associated with, even though he didn't direct it.
Team Solution While I didn't hate the new one, it just felt...off. Mostly I didn't like the way it was shot and I thought the turtles were too big. They were built like linebackers. Some of the dialog was spot on and worked but overall, it just didn't resonate with me. I really feel like the same script would have worked in another studio with another director. (I'm not talking Bay, since it was Jonathan Liebesman who directed) I think a larger part was that while the first TMNT movie was really about the turtles, this movie was really about April, and her discovering them. (also, I thought Megan Fox did a good job)
GoodBadFlicks Seeing the good and bad qualities of a movie instead of focusing only on the bad makes you a really good reviewer which is why I subscribed! I agree about the size of the turtles, I don't think they needed to be that big. I also didn't like Splinters design. But the fight choreography for Splinter/Shredder was amazing, I wish it was longer. I especially liked the rooftop battle. THAT was really a Ninja Turtle movie fighting style. The way the turtles interacted with each other made them really feel like brothers and I was most concerned with that, but it delivered. Especially the part when they're in the elevator. I only wish we saw a bit more of that. When April first sees the turtle on that roof, I think was done perfectly. This really was Megan Fox's best performance and I'm by no means a fan of hers. But people already have their opinion of her from her earlier movies so people are gonna stick to that no matter how better she gets at acting. Kinda didn't like that she was the one that "created" the turtles but it didn't make the movie any worse. I think any REAL fan of TMNT should see it, highly recommended. It def has replay value and bought it on Blu Ray. Well that's my version of the review I guess haha
Team Solution Awesome! I really appreciate hearing that. Some folks just don't understand, they see everything as either the "best thing ever" or the "worst thing ever". I try to look at things objectively and shed some light on what some "bad" movies did right. I did think that Shredder was pretty freaking cool. He was like Super Shredder. The movie did about equal in terms of right and wrong and I didn't mind it as much as I was worried I might. (although I must admit, I was happy to see that Rifftrax did the movie...there is a lot to goof on) I hope they maybe do some redesigns for the sequel and focus on the turtles more than April.
GoodBadFlicks No doubt man, your channel is pretty inspiring. My channel is mostly fitness, but I plan on doing reviews kinda like yours, except with different gyms instead of movies lol. I'll review newer movies coming out, but that's about it. So keep it up, got yourself a longtime subscriber and i'll be sure to pass your channel around!
7:55 “Good thing Vanilla Ice just happened to have a song about Ninja Turtles prepared...” Excuse me?! THAT, my friend, is Vanilla-Friggin-Ice! Allow me to educate you a bit here, Mr. Disrespect: Not only is the Ice Man a world-renowned, highly respected “lyrical poet” with the highest of standards; even viewing “anything less than the best” as felonious... Not only are his funky-fresh rhymes “quick AND nimble” with the descriptive power to entrance the listener, causing them to “vision and feel” his rhapsodic storytelling as though they were physically there... Not only has he been known to metaphorically “cook other MCs like a pound of bacon” while simultaneously “waxing chumps like candles”... His freestyles have been rumored to hit fake MCs with the force of an earthquake registering at or above 10.0 on the Richter Scale! Then, you come along and accuse this modern musical messiah of “having a song prepared” rather than assessing the situation - 4 anthropomorphic turtles utilizing ninjutsu and wit in order to battle a vicious Gray Wolf and an armor-bound Alligator Snapping Turtle - and, out of a sense of dedication to his craft and a selfless concern for the safety of his fans, using his unparalleled mic skills and a lightening-fast musical acumen; he turned a possible panic-induced stampede, likely to injure or kill hundreds, maybe even thousands, into a memorable experience while concurrently crafting a historically significant piece of musical genius... but, sure... let’s just say it was prepared in advance. Respectfully... I think it would be best, for everyone, if you do a bit more research next time... Word to ya motha!
TMNT 2 is my fav in the series. And yes, April's apartment did burn down. But her boss coaxed her by giving her the main anchor job and a corner office... with that pay upgrade finding another wouldn't be THAT difficult in 80s NY. =p
In the toxic waste cleanup scene, the workers weren't wearing hazmat suits because you only wear hazmat suits if you're in a radioactive area but, if you're a chemist, you wouldn't wear a hazmat suit in a toxic waste cleanup.
Thanks! Exactly. They had no problem with them using their weapons in the cartoon...I guess they didn't even consider that since it was animated. People are idiots sometimes.
yeah i seen some of them saying the animation looks horrible i mean really those animators put alot of effort and heck i don't care what people say but the animation in that show has probably the best animation fight sequence and looks i seen in years.
The CGI movie was a loose sequel to the movies. They incorporated elements from the cartoon but had many nods to the movies but I think they considered it a reboot. It just felt right. I liked it. I think the concept of them being aliens is idiotic. That changes one of the core components of the whole thing! I'm all for mixing it up when reboot/remaking but that makes it a different product.
I am really enjoying the new show. The pacing is genius in the way they are setting up for much bigger payoffs later. Like Spike being Raph's pet before he gets mutated and the turtles first taste of pizza. What I'm saying is.... I am still confident Mikey will discover "cowabunga" somewhere down the road.
Fucking LOVE this flick. It's pure unadulterated fun. They knew they could not surpass the perfection that was the first TMNT flick , so they went the comedy route and clearly had fun with it !
It's clearly a different apartment. In the first movie April lived about her dad's old antique shop. And yes, it burned down. That's not a mistake. The real question is how could April find (and afford) another random apartment in NYC?! On a reporter's salary?!
Just started watching your channel about a week. Love it! And you got me with the damn Soul Glo song from Coming to America. I spit coffee all over my desk at work. LOL
Keno took the pizza with him because 1) he was just checking out a suspicious situation, didn't know what he was gonna find, and was't trying to be "stealthy". And B) he's not dumb enough to leave a pizza in one of those expensive bags on the back of his scooter on a New York street at night. Talk about "Ninja Pizza that vanish without trace."
Excellent video again. For some reason when I was a kid, I enjoyed this movie more than the original. I don't think it was a better movie but I guess as a kid this one felt more in line with the cartoon series which I used to love. There was no bebop and rocksteady which bugged me watching the original and even though they didn't show up here I felt the inclusion of toka and razar was good enough and gave the turtles something big to fight. The ending was very anti climatic though.
All I know is this: when I seen the first movie the very idea of an underground club where kids could do whatever they wanted blew my 11 year old mind. If it was real there would be little my parents could've done to keep me from joining the foot clan. I think there has been a few movies about that in the 80s but someone needs to run with that idea.
THE best TMNT movie. My gripe was that it didn't have enough fight scenes or any use of their weapons. Decades later I'm still waiting for a worthwhile turtles movie. Don't think I'll ever get it. TMNT was the SH*T!!! Go ninja go ninja go ninja go!
I still love this movie. Kenos martial arts are on point for real. It does lack some of the serious the of the first but I still think it's solid and even though they cut down on the violence for bullshit reasons
its raph alittle to raph . i loved these movies , i was a teen and i was already right in to the cartoon and toys . they always screw these movies we just we glad they made it . suits were cool . real tmnt s is cool . GO TMNT !! oh we did kind make weapons and there were stories of kids getting home made ninja stars in the eye . i made knun chucks pole staff and i got a cheap sword from bali as a gift . i never got the sai tho .we used to fight all over the place but the we heaps of 80s fighting movies with chuck noris .
Oh man! A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Puddin' Pie! Filled with delicious ooze! I forgot about those. They were way too sweet for me, but I ate them out of loyalty.
I want to do an updated, more serious video about this movie. While I still love it, they definitely took the "teeth" out of it to appease some angry parents.
I don't know if it's been said but the studio did not create Tokka and Rahzar as response to the denial of Bebop and Rocksteady. Eastman and Laird created the two new mutants because they didnt want two cartoon characters they despised (but ironically co-created for the toyline and cartoon) in a film based off of their comic series.
Watching this in 2018 and totally missing those Pudding pies, I blame them on my childhood fatness even if I did ride my bike about 8 miles to the store, and 8 miles back home.
The original movie it's grittier but timeless. The sequel doesn't hold up today like the original. But it fit the era it was released in. And as a kid I preferred it to the original.
My brother and I were inspired to use household items. I loved Raph so I used forks. My Brother was obsessed with Donatello so he had a croquet mallet. When I woke up in the hospital, I realised the value of range weapons. Thanks Turtles!
It's not funny, but 🤣🤣😭😭😭😭
Ah, good 'ol thrown bleach to the eyes...
...good times, good times.

said every critic ever
I still say "a little too Raph" all the time. Less and less people get the reference, which is sad.
Who else REALLY wanted to go out eat and some pizza after that opening?
Brandon Hargis I know I do.
Xaviergray87 same.
+Brandon Hargis I do, but man Pizza sucks now-a-days.
Dreaminggeekzone
that really depends on where you go and who's making it.
+Brandon Hargis Very true. Where at its rare, next to impossible to find a decent pizza. Not how it was back in the day, like in the opening of this.
this was my favorite movie as a kid, I literally memorized the words to every character throughout the entire movie
I love Rahzar in this film. I think he looks so freaking awesome. He's my favorite TMNT mutant.
Anywho, love your channel Cecil. I've been binging it all day everyday for weeks now. You're the best!
Thanks for watching! :)
There's something about seeing Shredder holding a giant dandelion that's just so damn surreal. How can you not love that?
Turtles in Time is one of the best video games I played growing up
Yeah, at least in the first they fought him for a little while. In this one Keno was the only one who even hit him!
Turtles 3 wasn't terrible, it was just a major disappointment. If they would have just stuck to NY in the present it would have been fine but the whole back in time thing was lame. (except for the game Turtles IV, which is awesome)
casey jones was probably in prison during part 2 for murdering the shredder in the first movie.
Thomas Jenkins lol!
Thomas Jenkins that's the thing, they made the story out like they never saw the mangled body of shredder in the dumpster, since it stayed closed, and since it just tilted and dumped the garbage out in the dump, shredder escaped jailtime and even death somehow to get another shot at the turtles.
that is possible
Nah, he just became famous, got noticed by the NHL, now he's been signed into a 20 year $100 million contract ever since LOL
some actors dont return for sequels always

from a realistic perspective; that "Go ninja go" song must have been freestyled. how did he know the turtles would be there?
Fucking dead.
Cause ice is the hottest mc
My favorite of the Turtles games. Great soundtrack.
The Turtles didn't use their weapons because there were so many complaints about the "violence" of the first film.
+Patrick Stivers That is why the original will always be my favorite, Great silly comedy and great fight scenes.
when terminator one came out, everyone complained that arnold killed so many cops that he was unable to have any fatalities in the 2nd terminator
Another reason was also was with some kids hitting themselves with nunchucks witch lead to Mikey using sausages
i hate ppl...especially soccer moms
He literally says it in the video you're commenting on
He's got that soul glo
That silky silky free just let it shine.
I'm surprised how much of this I remember. I must've watched this a lot of times as a kid.
Man, I just discovered your channel and now im hooked
Awesome, glad to hear! :)
same here:) great channel
Thanks for the vote of confidence... Funny Raphael says that in the new movie! Maybe they are taking cue's from you!
Yep all the old crappy/good movies I like that no one ever knows about this guy talks about, awesome. lol
Same here!!!! I am loving the content.
In my opinion one of the best versions of Splinter in this movie. I just love how he looks =)
I remember seeing part 1 on opening weekend and how massive the line was.
...love this movie even more than the first. Yeah, it's got a couple stupid things, but that adds to its charm. Go Ninja, go Ninja, go!
I like it. The animation style is unique and it feels like a spiritual successor to the old 80s cartoon.
I met Judith Hoag at The Steel City Con this weekend, and brought up how she went to the same acting school as Paige Turco.
the intro music to this movie is the definition of cool 90s music
The thing where he says all who challenge step forward reminds me of the original transformers with starscream and him trying to take over command the decepticons.
RIP to David Warner and Jim Henson. Thank you gents for the turtle sequel to making us eating pizzas and feeling like kids again.

My favorite line in this movie is when they ask Michelangelo if his plan will work and he responds, "Is, like, Schwarzenegger hard to spell?" Lol
Still love this film! The humor and puppeteering is fantastic ! Its truly a marvel of how far practical effects can go with these lifesized cosumes!
Ha ha ha I thought I was the only one who noticed the French bread sticks in EVERY movie that features a bag of groceries lol Brill :-D
This is my greatest childhood movie. Loved it as a kid.
"Splinter Must've REALLY Liked That Report." PERFECT!!!😂😂😂😂

Thanks! Well, If I had to put them in order it would be as so.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles > The Secret of the Ooze > TMNT >>>>>>>>> Turtles 3
I'm near Philly so thankfully there is no shortage of excellent pizza joints. :)
I stil love all 3 original movies
bethune1990 I like moments of the third but it is such a mess. A shame really, it had a cool idea.
Say what you want, when i watched this as a teenager in the 90s i was obsessed and my imagination made up for all the bad flicks in the movie.
Personal opinion. I didn't think she was terrible, I just liked Turco more. I will say they got the jacket right with Hoag.
This movie is 30 years old. I feel old
My 2nd favorite of all the movies behind TMNT (2014).
Probably not. I might do an episode talking about what it did wrong but that won't be for some time.
Fucking LOVE this flick. It's pure unadulterated fun. They knew they could not surpass the perfection that was the first TMNT flick , so they went the comedy route and clearly had fun with it !
As a kid I loved this sequel. Now as an grown up I preffer the first a lot.
It's clearly a different apartment. In the first movie April lived about her dad's old antique shop. And yes, it burned down.
That's not a mistake. The real question is how could April find (and afford) another random apartment in NYC?! On a reporter's salary?!
Thanks! I wanted to have something special for it.
Num nums! Nummers! I love this flick.
Ah the Puddin Pies! I must have eaten hundreds of them!
Just started watching your channel about a week. Love it! And you got me with the damn Soul Glo song from Coming to America. I spit coffee all over my desk at work. LOL
I loved this movie when I was a kid!
I’ve seen this movie over 100 times at least
"Splenter must have really liked that report" damn dude
Thanks! Yeah, after editing this thing all weekend I made a pizza with sausage as a reward. Love me some pizza.
Still one of my favorite reviews from you.
Oh this old thing? lol
This movie is a much better sequel than it is given credit for!
David Warner: "can we get this over and done with, I several Star Trek episodes to be in."
Holy carp! I thought I was the only who liked, or even remembered, the TMNT Pudding Pies!
Good golly they were delicious!
I still love this movie. Kenos martial arts are on point for real. It does lack some of the serious the of the first but I still think it's solid and even though they cut down on the violence for bullshit reasons
Hoag had the better outfit (the yellow jacket was key) but I just like Turco more. Just a personal preference.
its raph alittle to raph . i loved these movies , i was a teen and i was already right in to the cartoon and toys . they always screw these movies we just we glad they made it . suits were cool . real tmnt s is cool . GO TMNT !! oh we did kind make weapons and there were stories of kids getting home made ninja stars in the eye . i made knun chucks pole staff and i got a cheap sword from bali as a gift . i never got the sai tho .we used to fight all over the place but the we heaps of 80s fighting movies with chuck noris .
The pies were pure heaven. They were the best pie I have ever had.
I lost count on how many times I have seen this movie on VHS. lol
Oh man! A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Puddin' Pie! Filled with delicious ooze! I forgot about those. They were way too sweet for me, but I ate them out of loyalty.
I knew once you mentioned lack of weapons that it was to pander to parents.
I want to do an updated, more serious video about this movie. While I still love it, they definitely took the "teeth" out of it to appease some angry parents.
LOL I remember a recent Josh Brolin sighting in Thrashin.
What's the song that goes "all that i needed was you" ?
I like how when I think I've seen them all some pop up on my feed and I wonder why I haven't seen them it's some freaking weird mandela effect
When I got older I was actually surprised that David Warner played a good guy here I think he would have made a good Baxter Stockman
Johnny Mnemonic is coming...soonish. Can't say for sure but definitely this year.
I died at "Splinter must have reeeeeeeally loved that report!"
