Usually if you're using any instrument rosin it won't stick to anything or it'll be solid (like the violin rosin) bc it's meant to make a thin coating on the hair of string instrument bows to create friction -From a cello player
@@Silvermoon916 im a cellist - bass rosin is super sticky and tougher than others, so it gives the bow a better grip on the string. cello rosin is a lighter version of that, still stickier than viola and violin rosin, but not as sticky as bass rosin. violins and violas use the same rosin (im pretty sure), and theirs is really weak compared to ours. if i tried to use violin rosin to play the cello, my bow wouldn’t have enough traction to get the sound i need. if i used bass rosin, it would sound super scratchy.
ALWAYS the smell (and now taste!) test before anything else 😂😂 And what on earth did that poor microwave ever do to you to go through this much abuse?!? 💀😂
As a Violist bass rosing is just darker and richer and it can be used on any string instrument, the bass rosin is called dark rosin and violin rosin is called light rosin dark rosing can be used on violin viola cello or bass but light rosin can only be used on violin or viola! Dark rosin is stronger. Hope this helped!!
I would NOT recommend using bass rosin on any other instruments other string instruments as it is much stickier, especially pops which is what he is using in this video
@@JCel yep!! They make lots of different light/dark rosins for all instruments, there’s lots of options and it’s really personal preference! Bass rosin is just designed to be sticker, and even the “light” bass rosins will be sticker than your typical violin/viola/cello rosin. Viola/violin rosin will be the driest of the bunch. We need it sticky to get those big strings moving! If you put violin rosin on the bass, it doesn’t work great
@@AmySmith-yo5mz a lot of violin shops use dark rosin for the first couple of strokes on a freshly haired bow. I wouldnt rec using pops on anything other than basses regularly though. A cellist i knew said it tore through a set of strings they had-but that could be conjecture.
Def don’t use Pops on a different string instrument, it’s way too sticky. I don’t think any other string instrument should really be using bass rosin in general, but I have seen cellists use less aggressive bass rosin on occasion
I think high fructose corn syrup would work, it’s kinda like honey when it comes to thickness/viscosity. Edit: don’t eat to much, it’s not healthy and might be a bit addictive.
Bass rosin you can rub onto the bars and it creates a stronger hold than violin rosin. It creates a dust though and it's supposed to be taken care of differently than violin rosin
I used to play the bass. An bass resin is different from violin rosin. you have to pull it out of the plastic container that's, why there's a little white Dixie cup around it. It's thicker and if you hold it in your hands for about 5 minutes it'll soften that's only the exterior each time you warm it you have to like hold it in your hands it does get really sticky but then it'll crystallize and turn almost into like a glass if it gets cold.
a pretty common thing I've noticed with string players is that rosin is their forbidden snack and they all want to eat it. I'm glad it applies to gymnasts too
As someone who plays the double bass, you need to find a hard object to break the rosin, which will reveal a white chalky powder. That's what helps the bow glide along the strings. Bassists use the end of the bows to "chip" away at the rosin.
Don't burn yourselves! 😂 Bass and cello rosin is a lot more liquidy then the other violin rosin you were using, it can provide grip but you might need to try it in powdered form or something. Bass rosin will literally melt in its cup on a summer day, so just make sure you don't heat it up too much or you'll just burn yourselves and probably have it stuck everywhere for all of eternity 😭
Thin it out with a solvent like denatured alcohol or acetone then apply it to the bar. Rosin is thinned out and used in electronics for flux when soldering. It flows well and is sticky af.
I’ve eaten bass rosin before and it actually tastes pretty good. also the best rosin to have cause no one except other bass players ask to borrow it lol.
You should try sticky spray that equestrians spray on their pants to grip to the saddle better!! I think because it’s not like resin maybe it will just be like a grip?
they could try the rosin that printmakers use for aquatinting etchings and processing litho stones! it would keep the qualities of rising but already be powdered. NOTE THOUGH: rosin is a carcinogen, so consuming it in the way that they’re joking about OR inhaling the dust can be really dangerous. some printmakers’ lungs end up hardening from rosin buildup
You should try ballet rosin spray! We use it for our shoes but it would be interesting to see if you could use it on the barres. I've also seen people spray it on their hands and feet for more stick😊
I do play violin so here is the thing. Your sweat can take off the rosin on your bow (violin bow) that is why we avoid touching the bow or touching the rosin so our sweat doesn’t not melt the rosin a bit. So if you were to use it it’s a bad idea because within a few minutes it would be gone. Best to stick with honey for now😂❤
I feel like ballet rosin would be like the perfect medium between chalk and honey. You crush it up into basically a fine powder, so we don’t slide across the floor in our shoes and break an ankle.
My orchestra heart hurts but also I can’t deny knowing someone who’s eaten their rosin (bass), licked rosin dust (violin), or licked the cake of rosin (me).
I just want to say that I play the violin and when I got rosin, my teacher told us to NOT touch it with our fingers because it’ll stick. So I never did it and then I saw this. Wow
Bass is always the one thats told to not mess up in my orchestra class when it comes to bringing things cause violins, violas, and cello use the same rosin but bass has a whole diffrent onw meaning their on their own
Back to that comment of you saying you could eat it, me and my friends were playing around during orchestra and he saw a tiny pice of rosin on the ground and he ate it thinking it was candy, long story short he started choking got about 3 minutes on it😂

im a cello player aswell
Cello for the win!
Ah yes, every string player's forbidden snack

@@cobwebs_in_the_moonlight Fr and it crumbles so easily, it looks so yummy
It's an unspoken rule, that ever new rosin, before scratching it, we must lick it.
You should try rosin that dancers use when their shoes are slippery on stage! It comes in spray or crystal type rock form.😁😁😁
I was gonna ask if this is the same type of rosin!
I dont think so, it doesn’t look like any I’ve ever used but it could be!😅
that’s typically the same as violin, viola, cello rosin! (i was a dancer and a string player for seven years)
same asviolin rosin i believe they just crush it
I think it’s the same bc I had dancers who asked if they could have my violin rosin when it fell and broke
No one:
Peppa: nom nom nomm 😂
Hehehh
i thought this was for weed lol

The eating of the rosin is reminding me a piece I played in middle school orchestra about rosin eating zombies.
I saw someone try using the stuff pole dancers use on bars. You should try it
