@@RandyB199 COT car was actually good on its own. If you wanna talk about a terrible Stock Car, let’s talk about how the Gen 6 is awful due to way too many unnecessary bad changes and how it’s also hurting ARCA. COT is overhated, it’s a good car (not perfect, could’ve been designed better), but it’s not as bad as NASCAR fans cry about.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT I personally enjoyed the final two years of COT racing. The tweaked front end and removal of the rear wing made the car race better than what was prior. 2011 Atlanta was the best in COT era.
'Say the right things', in other words, do his job for him, just like ALL the drivers do now-a-days, since they're all on his payroll. Credit to him, he fixed that all right. COT didn't ruin anything. The 'chase to nowhere' did, & now the pee-break stages, & more commercials than laps in race broadcasts mean it's largely unwatchable. In the last few years NASCAR has gone from every race being on the main channels of Fox and NBC to now most races are hard to find on cable or satellite TV. How could it get back to the popularity it had if only 3 guys win every race. The main NASCAR audience can smell BS.
Brian France broke NASCAR for the teams and fans. NASCAR sucked up all the big money sponsors with Official ______ of NASCAR. No one could then bring in a competing sponsor. The consolidation of track ownership ripped smaller tracks out of the hands of local ownership and fans. Of course he had help from Bruton Smith and Penske.
Dale Jr is amazing, he was my favorite driver when he drove, and his fanbase would be there no matter what he did but the fact that he is so great at talking to people and being so honest and humble just like he always was is perfect. Especially when he can do or say whatever on his own show and isn't limited with what he can say or bring up. Brian France I just remember being so mad about Jr loosing points after cussing after a win a Talladega it made me hate Brian France from then on. Not to mention he did lots of infuriating things anyway and it's very clear he still doesn't understand that the drivers and their opinions and personalities will come out but only if you let them voice what they truly feel either in an interview or in the heat of the moment after a race. You don't need gimmicks for that to happen. Around 2000 -2002 the large amount of new drivers started to get their dominance started or were at least in the Busch series or in a bad cup ride and would be great in the coming years. Yes some drivers most notably Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin started way before the 2000s but for the large part most of the veteran drivers were declining in ability as they were getting older. I mean it wasn't until like 2018 or 19 till Now that a large enough amount of new drivers made their start or started getting good enough to be contenders and winning. I mean a few started in between most notably logano but besides that until the drivers that got going from that early 2000s era retired or left the sport it took a long time for anyone to really stand out from that. Most notably all the Hendricks rides opened up, Gibbs still had well not anymore but had Hamlin, Busch and even at one point logano too. Stewart Haas got created and had amazing success for awhile there. But aside from logano, I mean really only harvick, truex, Busch and Hamlin are left as far as veteran drivers with a chance to contend for a championship that could still do so at least seemingly but even they are getting behind as far as not being as good or sharp as they were just like 3 years ago. Logano is still going for awhile but I seriously don't know how much longer the others can go for and realistically have a chance of winning it all or more than a single race. Also those who took awhile to learn and new drivers with tons of talent are entering the sport and can compete any week. Hendrick got lucky as far as getting a whole new lineup at just the right times to do so. I mean the Larson signing after his suspension instantly paid off and looks to continue to do so. Track house literally nobody could have saw having rides capable of being so competitive even if their drivers were amazing. But nonetheless they have a great thing going and young drivers talented enough to be in the sport a long time. Gibbs looks just terrible even their new announced drivers for next year nobody is like yeah that will be great even in Gibbs cars people don't think that. Penske got super lucky to have the drivers they do have. Everyone else just needs to figure something out like SHR sign just one person who isn't a veteran driver that has any hope at all. Any young or new person they move to cup has been awful unless it was a previous veteran already. Rfk and others idk what to say they by no means look like a team able or soon would be able to compete for a championship. And aside from a single maybe 2 win only a year drivers I don't see any hope and even then if a driver has a great year u think they will stay? Or that they would go to Hendrick possibly or SHR, track house or even Gibbs if they don't keep screwing up. Yeah teams could get the right people but really it would be due to lack of need from big teams for a driver to sign or possibly lucky signing of new drivers that bigger teams couldn't move up or weren't after. That is possible but unless u know Dale Jr or are apart of Jr motorsports somehow it will be very hard to stand out and even harder to get a ride in Xfinity series alone let alone cup series. And even then u might be in that series or trucks for 3-5 years before cup. Unless you are amazing such as Elliot or others who even through bad first cup starts still clearly were ready. I mean it took truex it feels like forever to finally be competitive and successful in cup after winning Busch series title I think twice or almost twice at least. There are some drivers that impressed enough to only need a few truck or Xfinity series races to move them to cup as soon as they could. Namely not just winning a plate or road coarse but actual good track like Charlotte, and pheonix, Las Vegas, Martinsville, dover etc... Those places you can tell for nascar who will really be good or not way easier than other track types with different racing on it. Ovals can tell u a lot for nascar if someone is truly good or not cause those tracks it's hard to win over other top drivers anyway let alone someone else showing that they can do it as well not just by way of qualifying and not staying up front or winning due to some weird circumstances such as fuel strategy or whatever.
If someone were to write a transcript of each sentence uttered by Mr. France, it would quickly become clear as to why NASCAR has fallen as far from grace as it has. This man is not and never was fit to lead a major sports league, be it for whatever reason - the main reason should be quite obvious. From 2003 onwards NASCAR leadership cemented and sealed themselves in a bubble, while simultaneously defecting and punishing any sort of critizism they had to face. Bill Sr. and Jr. understood the dynamics of accountability within the industry, and more importantly identified themselves with the culture sport they built and nurtured into the late 90s. Brian only ever identified himself with the idea of making more money and since he never understood what NASCAR was all about, he looked elsewhere for quick and cheap ideas that might have worked short term (04-06), but long term only achieved the effect of delegitimizing the sport with constant rule changes, stupid gimmicks and poor choices in car and package design. And because the timing of the recession more or less coincides with the begin of NASCAR's decline, it is now used as the main excuse, while simultaneously painting every decision made during that time in a good way and only prolonging the inevitable - which is absolute BS. NASCAR had the foundations to establish itself as part of the global landscape of motorsports, a slice of true American racing culture. Instead Brian France drove the whole ship into an iceberg whilst patting himself on the back for the role he played in that. And the entire industry keeps playing along, even though the man has been revealed to have made major decisions whilst high as a kite. Ridiculous.
The fact is no one man knows everything even though they think they do , when you have so many drivers complaining about the same thing then you should listen and try to fix it instead of just saying it’s my way or the highway which is what most people in charge do….
"I thought that Joey Logano made a very smart descision on what he did.... Matt Kenseth learned so well... That's a smart thing to do" - France on Joey Logano wrecking Matt Kenseth on purpose knocking him out of a championship run. Logano was not penalized but the next weekend when Kenseth returned the favor Kenseth was fined and suspended for 2 races. If I'm not mistaken that was Kenseths last year full time. The brilliant mind of Brian France. SMFH
Before Brian Frances' dad died, when talking about hiim taking over the reigns of Nascar, he told him, "if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it", In other words he was saying don't mess around with, or try to change things because it was doing just fine. Well, Brian did just that, started tweaking, changing, and fooling around with the rules and the way things were done. I'd say millions of fans were lost because of all his BS changes. And I'm one of them.
What Brian needs to acknowledge is that "his" sport is nothing without the drivers. They are out there daily taking all the risks and providing all the fan connections. Trust me, nobody watches NASCAR because of Brian France's involvement. The opposite may be true! I stopped following it with the introduction of "The Car of Tomorrow." It marked the end of race on Sunday, sell on Monday. That and all the gimmicky racing ideas. True fans just want to see good racing. Hello Moto-GP, IMSA sedan racing etc.......
I should post a positive comment and be happy Jr got Brian to agree to this chat. But I cannot. Brian is the worst thing to happen to Nascar, ever. If he werent a France he would likely be locked up in a prison on countless drug and alcohol charges.
Absolutely the car of tomorrow. SUCKS. THAT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE! Bill France Sr was the one who made NASCAR grow he had a passion for the sport. NASCAR is trying to bring younger people into the sport but it’s not going to work! I MISS THE OLD NASCAR…….
Grandstands are one third full any more. The media does not show the stands because of so many empty seats. You could go to Walmart and buy your child a popular driver's cars for just a few bucks, after France if you bought one from some vendor, they were so expensive you would let your child play with it. Ticket prices got way to expensive for the Average working Man to afford. They have priced themselves, almost out of business. And you cannot buy a single part of that car from the dealer. They need to go back to factory sedans bodys, factory drivetrains. Like it once was. A race car does not have to run 200 miles an hour to put on a good race.
I personally think Brian France wanted to make things better for NASCAR it just seemed like at the time everything he did was wrong for a sport that took a BIG hit when they lost Dale Earnhardt he was NASCAR and a spokesman for the drivers i don't think anything or anybody could help the massive decline after February 18th 2001 ................DEVASTING day to NASCAR....................
So the guy who ruins the sport, Takes the sport Woke till it's broken and was shoving a straw up his nose "oxycontin" was worried about burning the house down? Wow Dude....His Brain is Fried...
Ladies and gentlemen, the singular person who messed up NASCAR racing. Thank God we still have any sort of recognizable sport left. This is why I watch late model stuff more than I do cup racing.
Was the COT really a mistake? When you look at a stairwell leading to a destination, can a single step be a mistake if it's part of a larger progression? When I think of a mistake, I see an error that can't be undone, ex; an accident that ends up hurting or killing someone as direct result of changes implemented. The COT never did that. Sure the bumpers of different manufacturers could've lined up better & they could've spent more time improving the looks of the car but it wasn't built for aesthetics it was built to function as a safer car than what had become the Wild West of the previous generation. Thus, if you liked the Gen 6 car or today's model the COT was a step along that journey. Is safety ugly? That's another question, one the NFL is contenting with right now concerning the helmet caps worn by some players. Can a car be safe, sexy, bad fast, cheap to produce, comfortable (relatively speaking) & easy to fix/adjust? That'd be the destination part of the question not the component. And if/when we reach that destination, the show is over. Racing is over because that's the end of evolution which in itself is a journey not a destination. That'd mean all ideas have been used up, can't change cause there's nothing to change when everything is perfect.
Hey Brian, your food's terrible. Use to be good but your patrons are walking out now. You know why. You know what needs to be done to fix it, yet you ignore your patrons.
Watched this conversation again for a 3rd time. Junior let France off easy on several occasions here. But kudos to Dale for not letting him totally bullshit everyone; as much as that was possible. Growing-up he was not the ideal son or grandson... and everyone pretty much knew he was the wrong choice for NASCAR. Brian France -- no matter how much he tries to sell it here -- is NOT a victim in this situation!!
Awesome Interview.! Merry Xmas Dale Jr...they should be grooming you to be Pesident of the United States. You audience capture doing your book promo was Incedible.
His do as I say and not as I do attitude cost him dearly and his personal grudges against some drivers probably not his finest moments. There is a black sheep in every family and Brian fit that bill. However nobody is beyond redemption and he is seemingly doing well these days and that is good to see. Do I believe what he says about Mayfield ? Not on your life.
It is a now win deal. NASCAR does this for safety or competition. The engineers do that to negate the coopetition. Gray area for sure. But human nature will be that way.
Dale this interview was your biggest mistake. The France family had a DOJ lawyer running the show. They were violating Jerrimie's rights and many others. Still to this day are the problem.
Dudes a weasel. You can literally feel it and see it in just this little clip. Not only was a horrible with NASCAR, I suspect he’s a pretty rotten individual.
Take it to the bank, NASCAR is on the clock to get this sport back to what made it great. I LOVE this sport, I love the history, but i can't watch it anymore, ITS SO BORING !!!! I would rather watch an old race from 1995 and watch the 24th & 25th place car battle it out than watch the 1st & 2nd place cars battle it out in 2023 !!!!!
bill france sr. is screaming from the grave at this clown brian ohh and don't be fooled by that clown mike helton either and it seriously seems like brian/ nascar colluded with either DOJ/ FBI to do what happened to jeremy mayfield
Yeah he drunk right here. Lol and he lets Dale jr know, mmkk, he works on project he wants how he wants and with whom and mmmk Dale Earnhardts and all of nascars fans are at the bottom of his cares or consideration. Aka, “Nascar is stupid turn left”, this guy Lmao he literally probably has said those exact words. I know he has, called discernment, no judgment I read this and this man did about run Nascar into the ground.
If the car owners are greedy enough to kill their drivers to win, and the drivers are greedy enough to drive cars that will kill them, so be it. The Nascar rules should be to keep them from purposefully killing each other and/or accidently killing fans. Other than that, at the highest level of racing, let the teams use whatever technology they want. If they can get ramjets with afterburners to fit within the template of a production car and last 500 miles, go for it.
I think you’re a big reason why NASCAR is losing money and it’s probably going to go away. As soon as something comes up, you guys are just as competitive I love to watch NASCAR but the this task you guys pulled off with the politics and everything. I canceled both cable subscription to Fox and NBC because I had to have two different subscriptions to watch the whole year which was bullshit. I cancel cable now I stream pay for nothing but Internet.

Fair enough.
I should post a positive comment and be happy Jr got Brian to agree to this chat.
But I cannot. Brian is the worst thing to happen to Nascar, ever. If he werent a France he would likely be locked up in a prison on countless drug and alcohol charges.
This guy has always struck me as a weasel, and I believe he played a major role in the downfall of NASCAR compared to what it had been previously.
Brain Farts Dad, and grandfather are spinning in their graves at what he has done to NASCAR.
What is Nascar
Drivers are subcontractors and have the right to protect themselves, frig nastycar.
Arsonist leads us in a campfire tale...
Suck it up, buttercup!
And no one gave one shot! You did maybe one good thing for nascar
Denny also had his Freedom of Speech impleaded by nascar.....NO fine period !
The France family needs to walk away from nascar and have Dale jr run it NOW......................................
Still knocking back the whiskey and waters looks like.
Let me put this nicely: Brian France destroyed stock car racing. He is a man of poor character and deserves no respect.
Keeping it real little brother
Why does anyone care what Brian France thinks?
Hey Brian, your food's terrible. Use to be good but your patrons are walking out now. You know why. You know what needs to be done to fix it, yet you ignore your patrons.
The Tony George of NASCAR.
his father would be incredibly disappointed in him
Drunky France
Guy needs another trip to rehab I think.
I would like to the the all star race at Iowa speedway where the crew chief and drivers have less experience at the track
His redness to his face I think is due to him being a heavy drinker based on his history of drinking. He looks to be hard core too..
Just cash the check
France Jr would be nothing with big Bill.
Its not one track, one car, one driver, one owner or one official, the entire sport of nascar is lacking.
Politician yes president of NASCAR no.
The drug addict that took nascar down. He ruined this sport.
Everything after Winston Cup was crap
So you are not supposed to complain about worthless Bad Year tires - every single day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He doesn’t look healthy!
This dude has never worked a hard day in his life! He’s been breast fed his whole life.
It is a now win deal. NASCAR does this for safety or competition. The engineers do that to negate the coopetition. Gray area for sure. But human nature will be that way.
power struggle
Jeezus... I've never seen a question last 2 minutes...let him answer already 😃😂
I've never seen an answer last so long without even addressing the question, outside of politics, of course.
Dale this interview was your biggest mistake. The France family had a DOJ lawyer running the show. They were violating Jerrimie's rights and many others. Still to this day are the problem.
Jamie still today could go after them on a civil rights violation.
Drinking and driving? No sir.
The truth hurts lol he can’t face the truth still sad I use to look up to this guy not anymore
So brain France still owns the sport right? He just doesn’t control the day to day anymore?
France has thin skin
bill france sr. is screaming from the grave at this clown brian ohh and don't be fooled by that clown mike helton either and it seriously seems like brian/ nascar colluded with either DOJ/ FBI to do what happened to jeremy mayfield
Need to go back to the multiple lug nuts.
Brian France, it's not your a$# on the track in harm's way week after week.
Money grubbing family!
Two examples of American nepotism. It's the American way!
Love you Jr but could you try and limit your questions to less than 3 minutes?
I think you’re a big reason why NASCAR is losing money and it’s probably going to go away. As soon as something comes up, you guys are just as competitive I love to watch NASCAR but the this task you guys pulled off with the politics and everything. I canceled both cable subscription to Fox and NBC because I had to have two different subscriptions to watch the whole year which was bullshit. I cancel cable now I stream pay for nothing but Internet.
