For a moment I thought this was the beginning of the Overture of Wagner’s Tannhäuser. Albeit I would deem Wagner as a historically significant asshole, this Overture would make any mapmaking epic beyond comprehension. If you haven't checked it out, I highly suggest it.
I remember spending hundreds of hours on this game as a kid and after 10 years of humming the soundtrack in my head I’ve finally decided to revisit it. Not to be dramatic or anything, but I could die happy right now.

I work at a renaissance festival and find myself whistling tunes from this game almost daily.
Robert Euvino will forever be the perfect composer for this series. He's been there from the beginning and he's still creating killer soundtracks today - the Warlords OST is fantastic.

Hot take: the peaceful campaign was just as enjoyable as the war campaign.
Sure, the war campaign has an exciting story and it lets you choose between serving the king or serving yourself, but the peaceful campaign was... relaxing. Even with the time limits and all, carefully developing a town with nice mandolin music in the background brought me a lot of satisfaction.
Id argue the economic side of the game was better developed and made its specific campaign quite well made with own mini story, the war campaign has a bit too many issues and inconsistencies.
Hotter Take: Stronghold 3 was Hot Garbage in comparison. Campaigns were alright, but overall it just felt lacking.
I had to mod the campaigns though to be more challenging. Like, the one with the Hawk was a joke, you had your sweet time building without harassment.
the war campaign was only hard up to the point where u had to pick a side. After that it was all a pain in the ass. the Peaceful campaign was just hard all around since u had to deal with small stuff with little space
the game was masterpiece, I am revisiting it in 2022, it holds up better then games release 3-4 years ago

like most stronghold games, this one was massively strong in its music. Man i miss these tracks. I also miss the wonder and mystery that video games game up with back then. Nowadays shits cut and dried and they never stray from the beaten path. Fuck graphics, i want mechanics.

I can't believe that crusader is more popular than 2 and legends. Why??
Ahmadreza Yaghooti couse its a better game
2 and Legends didnt age as well as Crusader 1 and SH 1. And Legends and 2 were ratather kneecaped by budget constraints. Just go through the sound files of Legend, its obvious they had many, many more AI lords planned that they didnt get to actually develop.
Many people also didnt like the more "city builder style" they went with in Stronghold 2. Plus, neither 2 nor Legends fixed some issues the original two had.

I really liked stronghold 2 when it came out. But i never liked legends, it didnt have the same quality atmosphere. It felt unbalanced and it felt gimmicky.
However now as an adult, crusader is still super fun to play. It aged very well. Not saying stronghold 2 is bad in anyway. But the 3D graphics and the animations feel very outdated. 2D graphics generally age better. There is a charm to 2D graphics that low quality 3D graphics don't have.
That and i like the sand environment, it looks cool and it gives a more strategic scarcity to food. Also I didnt like stronghold 2's border system, many of the maps felt small and cramped. Aswell as some unnecessary management mechanics, like dung and crime. Sure i get the idea, but it just forced you to build a couple of buildings then never think about it. I really liked the feast system though. With royal foods and foods for peasants, etc.

God i hate on the internet community for hating games like this in mid 2010s...
Since I´m a child I like this game; my focus was up and now I have the same effect in any task.. It´s wonderful.. =D

i play hundred of hours in this game mostly on the castle building, i don't really like the combat in this game since it's really slow and unsatisfying. play skirmish and then give supplies to my allies and let them deal with the enemy.

The maiden from Stronghold 1
I played part 1 and part 1 was great. I didn't play the second part. As for me, 1 part is the best. This is of course my opinion. It's just out of sympathy for the 1st part. 🙂
