    It is a PS, I did add a towing mirrors on my 2010 F150 and takes less than 1 hr without this crap electrical issues, was just plug and play. Now I do have a 2015 GMC 2500 HD and all that I try to do turns in a nightmare, even replace a battery is a headache. I pretty sure I’ll be back to Ford and soon.

      Sorry to hear. GM made some changes for things like this harness for later/mid year 2015.

    I have a 2015 3500HD that already have tow mirrors. They are black and doesn't have the yellow light on the outside. But they are heated and do have the turn signal in the mirror. I bought the factory chrome mirrors with the yellow light on the outside. Do I need the 23387133 ,84290964,and 84290984 harness??? They told me I would need them at the dealer. Just wanted to make sure.

    I have set of tow mirrors to install on my 2014 lt silverado will the power function still work without the harness I could care less about the lights and turn signals I just need to be able to adjust the mirrors to pull my camper. I guess what I’m saying could I just plug and play with the ability to still use my adjust button on the door panel? Thanks hope to hear from u soon

    I hooked this harness on my 2014 gmc sierra 1500 and all works well. The only issue I have is when I put my truck in reverse the spotlights on the mirrors go out and my cargo light goes out. How do I get my cargo light to stay on when my truck is in reverse. I only want this feature when backing up my trailers at night. I do not want my cargo light on every time my truck goes into reverse. Just when my cargo light is on. My friend has a 2015 2500 and his cargo light stays on in reverse but not in drive. Is this possible with my 2014 gmc. Thanks

    • @philgamboa2906
      @philgamboa2906  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GM intended operation is that the tow mirror cargo lights are tied to the cargo light system... activated by the cargo light button in the instrument panel.

    Great video. I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. I just installed tow mirrors that have the turn signal, back up lamp, heated and power. My original Mirror only has the power option. My question is, if I install this RZY harness, following the instructions, will my turn signal and backup light work properly? I don't really need the heat option to work because I don't have the button for it anyway.

    This is an awesome video that filled many gaps in both my knowledge and the GM supplied instruction pages that come with the 23387133 jumper harness. Without this video the job would have been much harder for me and would have taken longer. The wiring complexity of modern vehicles is quite daunting so being able to watch a well filmed step by step demo of the necessary operations is a huge plus for even an accomplished DIY mechanic. The days of wiring up your accessories with a 12V probe and a fistful of Scotch-Lok connectors is long over. Thanks Phil!

With all the PMs I get on the GM-Trucks forum, I knew there was a need to make this video even though I don't need the RZY Harness myself or even have towing mirrors installed on my truck :) All the videos/photos of towing mirrors on my truck on those of forum members who have ordered and shipped to me for the purposes of making them Plug and Play. Thanks again for the feedback!

      You most likely have a 2014 or early 2015 truck and need this harness. What mirrors did you have before? What mirrors did you go with? Did you do anything to the harnesses? There are a number of reasons why those lights are not working.

  • @claytonpowers1324

    It's probably obvious but if truck already has the turn signal wires there and you tape back there green and blue wires at the door... The other side of the green and blue wires of the harness do not get used right. ? Just covering all the bases....

    • @philgamboa2906
      @philgamboa2906  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. The turn signals (blue and green) are most commonly present in most observations in this upgrade. So yes, any circuit present is then omitted from the RZY harness. Taped back an not used. The installation instructions also that as well.

    Having an issue somewhere in the wiring, got the RZY harness and the kit from boost to add the door wiring. Everything works correct when all lights are on. When they are off and I hit the Left signal the clearance light in the front is not blinking as it was with all lights on. When I hit the Right signal all the lights are flashing as if the emergency flashers are on. I did not use the wiring for the turn signals because it was already wired would this be the issue and should I try to wire them in from the RZY harness instead? Working on '14 Silverado 1500.

    • @philgamboa2906
      @philgamboa2906  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. If you are swapping from the smaller DL8 or DL3 mirrors to tow mirrors, a harness is needed. The reason behind this is because GM uses the same slots for different purposes based on the options you get. For example, on the smaller DL8/DL3 mirrors, Pin #1 on the connector is used for the Puddle Lamp Circuit. On a Towing Mirror, this same slot is used for the Park Lamp. These circuits land on their own spot on the connector in the door jamb. This is also the same Pin #2. On a DL3 Mirror, Pin #2 is an Auto Dim circuit, whereas Pin #2 on a tow mirror is the Courtesy Lamp circuit. GM certainly didn't make it easy.
      I make it easy :)

      The white wire is the cargo lamp wire. It goes down in the Black Box under the driver's side. This is the X61A junction box. IF the white wire is already landed in the box, then the instructions say to remove it, cut the terminal off, strip the wire and use the butt splice. Then reinsert the new terminal from the harness in that spot.
      If the white wire is missing from the X61A junction box, then just insert the terminal and omit the butt splice.

      @philgamboa2906  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex - for all 2014 Trucks, you will need the RZY Harness which will add pins #9 and #11 in the door jamb connector. Once that is in, then you'll need a new harness that has the lighting portion of the circuits going to the right locations in the door jamb. You will retain power folding as you do now with your DL3s. I am not sure what programming has been done to be able to tell you the outcome or behavior, but we have to start somewhere with harnesses and the RZY Jumper.

      Jeff Underwood - You can verify by removing the connector in the door jamb and verifying if Pins 9, 11, and 41 are present. If any are missing, you'll need the jumper. If you have the AVF RPO, in most cases, you'll need it. Verifying the pins will be your best bet.

    • @philgamboa2906
      @philgamboa2906  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff Underwood If you have all 3 pins present in the connector (the cab side), then you don't need the RZY Jumper Harness. You will still need a door harness that will have the lighting circuits pinned from the mirror, going to the door jamb connector. I make and sell these harness on the GM-Trucks forum exclusively.

    Module Calibration didn't do much !

      Alex Girard In the 100+ members I've helped on the forum, none have needed a BCM or Memory Module Calibration. So I myself am unclear on the needs for the calibration. As for why the amber light only works sometimes when unlock the truck, that's because the park lamp is acting like a puddle lamp. The Puddle lamp on your DL3 Mirrors is on Pin #1 of the stock harness. Pin # 1 is also a shared slot for the Park Lamp. It will only come on at night when you unlock, then turn off when you shut the foo or lock the truck.

    It's clear that you know your stuff when it comes to this subject matter. That much is obvious. And I am confident that you are passionate about what you do; making the door harnesses and what not. I am not calling into question your smarts or your knowledge of the subject matter. With that said, I would like to offer you a bit of criticism/advice. Not to be a dick or to be disrespectful. But because you have the potential to round out your subject matter knowledge, with some basic video editing skills, and produce really excellent videos.
    This video was brutal to watch. Everything from the explanation to how the video was shot/edited, was brutal. Although there is unquestionably a lot of good information in the video, and it can be used by others to successfully install these harnesses, that does not mean that the video was "Good". The difference is using your video because it's all one has, and using your video because it's a pleasurable experience.
    First, for around $500, you can get yourself some decent equipment; audio equipment, a camera decent enough for casual TH-cam Videos, a decent tripod, things like that. These things are, if not absolutely essential, at least warranted and highly recommended if you plan on uploading videos with even the most modest of frequency. Having both of your hands free to work instead of trying to film and work at the same time is a huge +. Not having a shaking camera goes along way towards preventing your viewers from becoming sick and dizzy while watching your videos. Having even a modest sound recorder goes along way towards making your audio even and stable across the entirety of your video. Maybe think about employing a friend to do the filming. For not a lot of extra money, there are also LOADS of filming gadgets that would go a long way towards making your videos MAGNITUDES better. Like a mono pod, or a motorized gimbals stick. Maybe consider some lighting solutions as well. There are TONS of TH-cam Videos on how to produce good quality TH-cam Videos. You don't need thousands of dollars and a degree in Video Editing to make a HUGE improvement. $500 and some basic video editing knowledge would make all the difference.
    Second, on the explanation. I am all for granular explanations; but if the goal was to explain how to install these harnesses, much of the verbiage in the video was not just overkill, but a distraction. There is a difference between a classroom theory type of explanation, which is what you presented, and a practical explanation. As a viewer that is coming to you for information, what I really want to see is a step by step walk through of an ACTUAL install; covering things like, "Here are were you physically run these harnesses in the actual truck", "Here are the ACTUAL problems you're going to face when running them", and "Here is how to mitigate that pain". Essentially, a real practical demonstration that cuts out all of the BS, and cuts right to the most important aspects. Much of how well a video comes off, is accomplished in post editing. You may for example end up shooting 3 hours of video, if you film an actual installation. But that 3 hours can be distilled down into just the essential points. Maybe a 3 hour install becomes an hour or even less TH-cam video once it's been edited. Maybe there are things that you see on reflection that are missing, and that you can add in during post editing as well. Or maybe upon watching the video, you realize that your explanation on the fly, could have been explained better, so you add in additional audio and or replace the original audio.
    I realize that creating quality videos is a lot of work. Trust me, I KNOW. But anything worth doing, is worth doing well. - "Brian May". I know that it's much MUCH simpler to record a video on your phone, shoot from the hip instead of creating a general script, and just do a one and done take. And I'm not saying that there are not perfectly reasonable situations where that kind of video would be appropriate. But this subject matter in my opinion, deserves the extra effort. It took you less than 20 minutes to shoot this video. Maybe a few more to upload it directly from your phone to TH-cam. And it shows. Making a better video of the same length could take hours or even days of effort. But that effort pays off in a host of different ways, on many different levels.
    While this video may be serviceable as a guide, it's a long ways off from being either enjoyable to watch, or a good guide. And please don't take any of this as though I don't appreciate the efforts you HAVE made. I very much do. It's not as though there are thousands of these videos out there to begin with on such a relatively narrow subject. Given the general rareness of such videos, I will happily take what I can get. The point of my comment is to simply encourage you; since you have the knowledge, you seem to be willing to share it freely with others, and you appear to be willing to spend the time to produce a Video in the first place; to up your game a bit and produce better quality videos. It's not as if you need thousands of dollars to up your game. Really, it just boils down to educating yourself on some very basic Video Editing skills, and maybe obtaining $500 (or less) worth of equipment/software, to improve your videos by leaps and bounds.
    Or, maybe I could just go pound salt. Both are equally plausible.

      To install the RZY Jumper Harness - Part # 23387133, yes, you should remove the door jamb connector (door side), because you will need to remove the body side connector in order to load the missing terminals. This needs to be done on both sides.
