I do not feel like I represent any sort of mechanically inclined population, but I am capable of following clear instructions on a youtube video and asking a guy at AutoZone for the tools mentioned in the video! I have a 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT that I was trying to get towing mirrors installed on without losing my powerfolding function (I routinely have to park in a garage so this is a big deal to me). After paying my local GMC dealer $300 to install mirrors that they THEN afterwards told me couldn't retain the power folding function I screamed into a pillow and then searched google for answers. Phil knocks it out of the park with this video and I ordered a harness from him that did the trick GMC said they couldn't do on a 1500 model truck. I was so happy after getting these things in and working that I asked him where I could post some positive feedback. Well deserved - and thank you Phil!
I just completed this upgrade using Phil's wiring harness. Super easy. Took me 2 hours to complete taking my time. His harness truly does make it plug and play. Everything works as it should. Thanks Phil!!

This video was perfect! I just changed my mirrors to the A1 Auto Tow mirrors and this process was flawless. I recommend anybody who is attempting this mod to contact Phil because he mades custom wiring harnesses that will make the A1 Auto Mirrors function properly. I ordered the harnesses from Phil and he walked me through the entire process. Without the modded harness, the A1 Auto Mirrors will not function properly. Thanks Phil for your help!
Thanks Phil for the video you made. It made the conversion vey easy. And a little advise for anyone that does the conversion and uses Phils wiring harness.....make sure you plug ALL the plugs back in before you put the door panels back on LOL. Yep i forgot to plug the passenger side window motor plug back in. I didn't have to take the entire door panel off< but still a pain. Totally my fault though.

Great info ! I have 2015 Sierra 1500 sle 5.3. Had power mirrors,I installed power fold mirrors and door harnesses from 2019 Silverado LTZ.along with correct switch. You of course were right I have up and down on drivers heat in both along with puddle lamps No action on passenger mirror signals work on both..Just need to add Pins? Got this all done on my truck.I have called several dealerships about getting it programmed so the fob will fold the mirrors when I hold the lock down but so far no one will look at it.I was told if it didn't come on the truck they can't do it.

Process is the same for the door harness and mirrors. The difference is that you'll need to get a new door panel bezel trim (that supports the addition of a power adjust/fold switch) and and door panel harness. I've helped several WT Trim owners with this mod. For more info, please see the link in the description and send me a PM for more info.
I just purchased a 16 Tahoe LT with DL8 mirrors I want to switch to DL3 mirrors I purchased a drivers and passengers door/window switch with the folding mirror button and drivers and passenger DL3 mirrors. Would I still need a harness to make them fold or would they work with just the new window/ door switches. I just want them to fold don’t care about the signal
Phil I bought a 2014 silverado Ltz and it came with tow mirrors but the function of folding them in dont work cuz the old owner told me that the harness dont match what do I need in order for all the features of the tow mirrors to work

2 Reasons - First, if you didn't change your door harnesses, the amber running light is not working the way its supposed to. It's supposed to be on anytime the headlamps/park lamps are on. If you kept the same harnesses, they are acting like your old puddle lamp where they only come on at night and when you unlock your door. Second, since your truck is a 2014, your door jamb connector on the cabin side is missing pins 9 and 11. These are the cargo and running light circuits. Check out my RZY Jumper Harness Video - Part # 23387133. That video shows when/why its needed.

2-parts. First, the door harnesses in each door need to be swapped out. Then, you'll need the RZY Jumper harness to get these missing circuits landed in the door jambs. I have a video for that on my channel as well.

Hey Jim, IA Auto only seems to carry their own after market mirrors. If you are looking to go to a DQS Mirror, these are power fold, mirror mirror, etc., the closest equivalent from 1A Auto is 1AMRP01786. This is the same mirror I tested in this video. I will caution that the mirror connector is not pinned like Factory GM DQS mirror though an required customization to the mirror connector itself. I also make custom Plug and Play harness to accommodate these mirrors to make them FULLY functional (including the bonus puddle lamp that this model comes with). I haven't had my hands on OEM mirror. The mirrors shown here were purchased from other members on the GM-Trucks Forum and sent to me for the customization. I tested them on my truck and based on the short test, they feel/appear to be solid after market mirrors. I've had my hands 7 sets so far from 1A Auto and haven't had any issues with any of them.
Is it connect and play with my LT 2017 without the side blinker is in the mirror So if I get the towing mirrors with the blinker and I connected with my blinkers work on that
16lcisneros - When upgrading from smaller DL8/DL3 Mirrors to Tow Mirrors, you will need new harnesses. I build these for each application. If you install the mirrors without swapping harnesses, the power adjust and heat will work. None of the lighting will. If you get my custom harnesses, all of the lighting will work, Plug and Play. You’ll also be able to gain power fold (Switch needed).

I do have a question though...after doing the complete install of my tow mirrors I find that the right mirror vibrates a little too much for my liking. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up a little bit? I pulled the glass all the way out on the top and bottom, shined a light in there, and everything appears to be installed correctly and intact. nothing appears broken, either. Any ideas? Thanks!

My truck is an SLT which came stock with the power fold/turn signal/puddle light mirrors. Can I simply buy the oem tow mirrors and install without needing a harness or programming?
mattonthewater - You’ll need harnesses designed for tow mirrors. The reason being is GM shared a couple of slots on the mirror connector. So for example, on your mirrors now (DL3), pin 1 is used for the Puddle lamps. But on Tow Mirrors, pin 1 is used for the running Lamp. So if you install the tow mirrors as is, your running Lamp will behave like a puddle lamp, only coming on at night when you unlock your doors. On the driver door harness, pin 2 is used for one of the dimming circuits that dims the glass. On Tow Mirrors, pin 2 is for the cargo lamp. So, that’s the reason a new harness is needed to get the lighting portions to work correctly.
Also, if you’re 2014 or early 2015, an additional Jumper harness will be needed for the inside cabin wiring as these years will have the running light and cargo light circuits missing.
mattonthewater - There is a GM supported kit, but what GM provisions are a set of non-Power Folding mirrors. So you’ll lose power fold, mirror memory, key fob fold, and reverse tilt. That’s why many come to me to provision this so they can upgrade to power Folding tow mirrors and retain all those features. With any tow mirror upgrade, you will lose the driver side dimming as no tow mirror offers that. You’ll also lose the downward shining puddle lamp. There are a couple of after Market mirrors that will retain these features AND offer a bonus Puddle Lamp. Check out my video on my channel for mirrors from 1A Auto. That particular model is what I am referring to.

I have a 2015 2500 high country. It has the RPO code DL3. I assume the towing mirrors were added after the truck was originally purchased. I bout the truck used. The tow mirrors are power folding, memory, etc. The blinkers on the mirror glass work correctly. The cargo lights and the clearance lamps on the front of the mirrors do not work. Could this be a wiring issue?
KYLE - KYLE - This sounds like the previous owner did not swap the harnesses. Can you test the amber light? At night, if you unlock your doors with the key fob, does the Amber light light up? Also, if they did swap the harnesses, it could be that your truck is an early 2015. In this case, you’ll be missing the running light and cargo light circuits on the cabin side of the door jamb connector.

Is it possible to upgrade from the factory base model non power mirrors to a heated towing mirror? I don't care about power folding. Power adjustable would be nice, but heated would be great. I rather not Jimmy rig the wiring. A nice factory finish would be nice.

Great video and thanks for the info/detail. Do you know if these tow mirrors can be retrofitted to a 2015 tahoe? I know the base is bigger than the stock Tahoe but it looks as if the tow replacement will just overlay the bottom window moulding.
Thanks! I haven't had any exposure to the SUV platform for this retrofit, but would imagine the steps would be similar. I don't think the mirrors will fit, so I would look into a mirror maker that specifically shows fitment for the SUV platform.

GM, Trail Ridge by 1A Auto/AM Auto. I can build harness for any mirror. Just need to do some tests on the mirrors before a harness/DIY Kit can be built. Not all mirrors are built the same and many of the aftermarket ones will have their lights wired differently.

Do you have power windows? If you do, you can most certainly gain power adjust, power fold, turn signal, cargo lamp, running lamp. As a matter of fact, I helped several WT (Work Truck) Trim trucks that didn't even have power adjust mirrors upgrade and gain that. We just need to do some investigation.

For the door harnesses, yes. That's what I make/sell on the forum (link in the description), however, with 2014, there will be more work ahead of you. In the link above, i explain the need for the RZY Jumper Harness. Your truck will not have the tow mirror light circuit pins present in the door jamb, going into the cabin and under the hood. Take a look at the first post in the thread above. It'll everything you need to know about this upgrade.

Hey Phil. I currently have power mirrors with defrost and Manuel fold. I ordered tow mirrors with Manuel fold and telescope wit hitch turn and power tilt. In your one video you mention 3 pins on the driver door harness. They are not present on the door side but are present on the body side. Does this mean I wouldn't have to proceed forward. Thanks.
Matthew, for tow mirror upgrades, the pins you want to look for are pins 9, 11, and 41. For anyone wanting to upgrade to tow mirrors, you will need to swap your door harnesses out OR modify your existing harnesses to accommodate the lighting. In the door jamb connector, Pin 9 is the Courtesy (Cargo Lamp/Revere Lamp), Pin 11 is the Park Lamp (Clearance/Running Lamp), and Pin 41 is the Turn Signal. This is the same for both sides. Since GM shares some of these slot locations for other purposes, it is a requirement for anyone upgrading to swap harnesses of modify your existing. IF, you do not have these pins on the cabin side mate connector, you WILL need the additional RZY Jumper Harness (Part #23387133). This is generally a requirement for ALL 2014 and some early 2015 trucks. For later 2015 models and on, the RZY Jumper Harness is not a requirement and only door harnesses (or existing door harness modifications) are required. For the DIY'ers out there, I do offer a DIY "Kit" that will come with what you need to make this modification yourself.

My 2015 Silverado has manual mirrors with no power mirror switch installed. What is the work around for that to install power heated mirrors???

Got this all done on my truck.I have called several dealerships about getting it programmed so the fob will fold the mirrors when I hold the lock down but so far no one will look at it.I was told if it didn't come on the truck they can't do it.

Could you post a video on how to add POWER mirrors to a w/t gmc/silverado that has power windows?
Process is the same for the door harness and mirrors. The difference is that you'll need to get a new door panel bezel trim (that supports the addition of a power adjust/fold switch) and and door panel harness. I just purchased a 16 Tahoe LT with DL8 mirrors I want to switch to DL3 mirrors I purchased a drivers and passengers door/window switch with the folding mirror button and drivers and passenger DL3 mirrors. Would I still need a harness to make them fold or would they work with just the new window/ door switches. I just want them to fold don’t care about the signal

I upgraded to tow mirrors on my 2014 ltz. Everything works except the cargo/reverse light can't figure out why
2 Reasons - First, if you didn't change your door harnesses, the amber running light is not working the way its supposed to. It's supposed to be on anytime the headlamps/park lamps are on. If you kept the same harnesses, they are acting like your old puddle lamp where they only come on at night and when you unlock your door. Second, since your truck is a 2014, your door jamb connector on the cabin side is missing pins 9 and 11. These are the cargo and running light circuits. Check out my RZY Jumper Harness Video - Part # 23387133. That video shows when/why its needed.

Phil I have a 2014 LTZ Silverado how do you make the clearance lights and cargo lamps on the tow mirrors to work
2-parts. First, the door harnesses in each door need to be swapped out. Then, you'll need the RZY Jumper harness to get these missing circuits landed in the door jambs. I have a video for that on my channel as well.

Hey Jim, IA Auto only seems to carry their own after market mirrors. If you are looking to go to a DQS Mirror, these are power fold, mirror mirror, etc., the closest equivalent from 1A Auto is 1AMRP01786. This is the same mirror I tested in this video. I will caution that the mirror connector is not pinned like Factory GM DQS mirror though an required customization to the mirror connector itself. I also make custom Plug and Play harness to accommodate these mirrors to make them FULLY functional (including the bonus puddle lamp that this model comes with). Phil Gamboa what would you say about the quality difference between the OEM vs the mirrors in this video?
I haven't had my hands on OEM mirror. The mirrors shown here were purchased from other members on the GM-Trucks Forum and sent to me for the customization. I tested them on my truck and based on the short test, they feel/appear to be solid after market mirrors. I've had my hands 7 sets so far from 1A Auto and haven't had any issues with any of them.
Is it connect and play with my LT 2017 without the side blinker is in the mirror So if I get the towing mirrors with the blinker and I connected with my blinkers work on that
16lcisneros - When upgrading from smaller DL8/DL3 Mirrors to Tow Mirrors, you will need new harnesses. I build these for each application.
If you install the mirrors without swapping harnesses, the power adjust and heat will work. None of the lighting will. If you get my custom harnesses, all of the lighting will work, Plug and Play. You’ll also be able to gain power fold (Switch needed).

I do have a question though...after doing the complete install of my tow mirrors I find that the right mirror vibrates a little too much for my liking. Is there anything I can do to tighten it up a little bit? I pulled the glass all the way out on the top and bottom, shined a light in there, and everything appears to be installed correctly and intact. nothing appears broken, either. Any ideas? Thanks!
Some upper glass vibration is typical. I also noticed this on GM Factory mirrors as well. Are yours GM or aftermarket?

My truck is an SLT which came stock with the power fold/turn signal/puddle light mirrors. Can I simply buy the oem tow mirrors and install without needing a harness or programming?
mattonthewater - You’ll need harnesses designed for tow mirrors. The reason being is GM shared a couple of slots on the mirror connector. So for example, on your mirrors now (DL3), pin 1 is used for the Puddle lamps. But on Tow Mirrors, pin 1 is used for the running Lamp. So if you install the tow mirrors as is, your running Lamp will behave like a puddle lamp, only coming on at night when you unlock your doors. On the driver door harness, pin 2 is used for one of the dimming circuits that dims the glass. On Tow Mirrors, pin 2 is for the cargo lamp. So, that’s the reason a new harness is needed to get the lighting portions to work correctly.
Also, if you’re 2014 or early 2015, an additional Jumper harness will be needed for the inside cabin wiring as these years will have the running light and cargo light circuits missing.

mattonthewater - There is a GM supported kit, but what GM provisions are a set of non-Power Folding mirrors. So you’ll lose power fold, mirror memory, key fob fold, and reverse tilt.
That’s why many come to me to provision this so they can upgrade to power Folding tow mirrors and retain all those features.
With any tow mirror upgrade, you will lose the driver side dimming as no tow mirror offers that. You’ll also lose the downward shining puddle lamp. There are a couple of after Market mirrors that will retain these features AND offer a bonus Puddle Lamp. Check out my video on my channel for mirrors from 1A Auto. That particular model is what I am referring to.

I have a 2015 2500 high country. It has the RPO code DL3. I assume the towing mirrors were added after the truck was originally purchased. I bout the truck used. The tow mirrors are power folding, memory, etc. The blinkers on the mirror glass work correctly. The cargo lights and the clearance lamps on the front of the mirrors do not work. Could this be a wiring issue?
KYLE - KYLE - This sounds like the previous owner did not swap the harnesses. Can you test the amber light? At night, if you unlock your doors with the key fob, does the Amber light light up? Also, if they did swap the harnesses, it could be that your truck is an early 2015. In this case, you’ll be missing the running light and cargo light circuits on the cabin side of the door jamb connector.
Phil Gamboa yes the clearance lights “amber lights” do light up at night. The cargo lights do not. It is a late 15 model. Or 15.5 model.

Tim Divincenzo functions are not the same in regards to the lighting so harnesses are needed if you want the lights to work right.

Great video and thanks for the info/detail. Do you know if these tow mirrors can be retrofitted to a 2015 tahoe? I know the base is bigger than the stock Tahoe but it looks as if the tow replacement will just overlay the bottom window moulding.
Thanks! I haven't had any exposure to the SUV platform for this retrofit, but would imagine the steps would be similar. I don't think the mirrors will fit, so I would look into a mirror maker that specifically shows fitment for the SUV platform.

GM, Trail Ridge by 1A Auto/AM Auto. I can build harness for any mirror. Just need to do some tests on the mirrors before a harness/DIY Kit can be built. Not all mirrors are built the same and many of the aftermarket ones will have their lights wired differently.

Do you have power windows? If you do, you can most certainly gain power adjust, power fold, turn signal, cargo lamp, running lamp. As a matter of fact, I helped several WT (Work Truck) Trim trucks that didn't even have power adjust mirrors upgrade and gain that. We just need to do some investigation.

For the door harnesses, yes. That's what I make/sell on the forum (link in the description), however, with 2014, there will be more work ahead of you. In the link above, i explain the need for the RZY Jumper Harness. Your truck will not have the tow mirror light circuit pins present in the door jamb, going into the cabin and under the hood. Take a look at the first post in the thread above. It'll everything you need to know about this upgrade.

Hey Phil. I currently have power mirrors with defrost and Manuel fold. I ordered tow mirrors with Manuel fold and telescope wit hitch turn and power tilt. In your one video you mention 3 pins on the driver door harness. They are not present on the door side but are present on the body side. Does this mean I wouldn't have to proceed forward. Thanks.
Matthew, for tow mirror upgrades, the pins you want to look for are pins 9, 11, and 41. For anyone wanting to upgrade to tow mirrors, you will need to swap your door harnesses out OR modify your existing harnesses to accommodate the lighting. In the door jamb connector, Pin 9 is the Courtesy (Cargo Lamp/Revere Lamp), Pin 11 is the Park Lamp (Clearance/Running Lamp), and Pin 41 is the Turn Signal. This is the same for both sides. Since GM shares some of these slot locations for other purposes, it is a requirement for anyone upgrading to swap harnesses of modify your existing. IF, you do not have these pins on the cabin side mate connector, you WILL need the additional RZY Jumper Harness (Part #23387133). This is generally a requirement for ALL 2014 and some early 2015 trucks. For later 2015 models and on, the RZY Jumper Harness is not a requirement and only door harnesses (or existing door harness modifications) are required.
For the DIY'ers out there, I do offer a DIY "Kit" that will come with what you need to make this modification yourself.
