    BABYMETAL DEATH - more often used as their opening number for shows for a couple of good reasons: 1. it gets everybody pumped up (and shocks the people who are expecting something mellow or pop); and 2. it is a pun. In Japanese you might introduce yourself as Big Kai desu, Big Z desu (the u is silent) which means I am Big Kai, I am Big Z. Japanese has no 'th' sound but say desu (or des) and stick your tongue out slightly and it sounds like death ... they are basically introducing themselves - I am Su-Metal, I am Yuimetal, I am Moametal, we are Babymetal.
    The other lyrics of the song are spelling out B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L then desu desu desu (or death death death).
    On this occasion they used it as the closing number, the crucifixion signified Su-Metal sacrificing herself to be reborn as Su-Metal the Metal Goddess ... this concert was the day after her 16th birthday. They only crucify her on special occasions (they did it again last year for her 20th at Legend 'S' XX in her home town Hiroshima).

  • @Glynthepin
    @Glynthepin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Probably my favorite BabyMetal performance. Your friend has witness the most epic BabyMetal show as a introduction to them.
    The neck brace is reference to the drummer in X Japan (a Japanese rock group) who damaged his neck through too much headbanging!
    The statue collapsing at the end is reference to a Metalica stage set.
    Big Kai was so engrossed, I don't know if any of you noticed the song title or they spelled out the name BabyMetal? 1997 was the year Su Metal was born and this show was on her sixteenth birthday. Not a bad way to celebrate!

      Actually if it wasn't for the reaction videos I would recommend watching Babymetal shows from front to back in order. Not that it's all related and should be watched in order, but because of the energy of a full show. I've seen them live a couple of times, it's euh... magical when you can let yourself completely go and just enjoy the show. I've only had that ones at an other band Pink Floyd. Babymetal Desu … It gets phonetically to us to be Death .. Desu means "We Are" Babymetal "We Are", Su-Metal "I Am" .. Moa-Metal "I am" Yui-Metal "I Am" .. Baby metal "We Are" Just a role call… It also reminds me of Alice Cooper from the live shows as far as the guitar style during the crucifixion scene. There are some cool pictures of Alice with Babymetal, plus they are big Metallica and opened for them as a special guest. Guns n Roses Japan tour, Red Hot Chili Peppers everywhere, Korn and Stone Sour. Lady Gaga brought them over very early for a few shows in her art tour. They have a performance of Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford and they opened for Judas Priest. They did a gig with Cnthonic that was quite cool. Skrillex backed them on stage too …

      That was a sad time and in Dallas the whole show seemed very forced and stiff. We didn't find out until that morning that Yui was no longer performing and you would think that Amuse would have let us know before we purchased tickets for a tour. They were on stage 45-50 minutes, the songs slimmed down and solos curtailed .The opening act Skyharbor was stellar and made most of the stage time up before an impossibly long setup and Babymetal hitting the stage.

    I'm always a bit torn when it comes to this song. I don't find the song itself that appealing to reactors, because the lyrics are so reduced (or more or less absent). That will throw many listeners off. On the other hand, the few lyrics it has are a really nice play with words (I think it has already been explained). And then, of course, the theatrics in this show were really awesome, which makes it a must-see. I can't help but smile when I see this, these cute girls in this badass worshipping scene, then Yui and Moa fleeing in panic when Su comes back to life to the sound of Mikio's shredding. This is the scene to show people who claim BABYMETAL are not Metal.
    Regarding the Christian symbolism, I wouldn't put too much interpretation into it. In my opinion they are just using it to support the Death Metal or Black Metal feel, where it's also used a lot. They are deliberately taking it to the extreme to increase the clashing with the cute girls for a maximum amount of fun. But I don't think they are really trying to send a message here. Like Su said: "No thinking, just feeling!".

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Something else that is good about this song, they used to have it as the first some at many performances and it's nice and heavy and gets everyone excited who are at the show.

    Don't think they were intending to be offensive to Christians, just "remixing" heavy metal visuals.
    Christians in Japan are only about 1% of the population.
    BABYMETAL toured with Korn and Stone Sour in 2017.
    It was great fun seeing the reaction of people who had never heard BABYMETAL before assuming they were going to be some kind of mellow group.
    Then they came out and opened with BABYMETAL Death. : )

    You're correct, this is the hardest Babymetal performance to stomach as a Christian. I do find it hard to justify keeping the band as my favorite, if being honest... but I do. They try to explain away this as only symbolizing death and rebirth (Su's), but I really think Koba was trying to be Metal as hell, so that meant being controversial as hell. Crucifying a 16yo on her birthday; what's more controversial/Metal than that?

    • @satomiwa
      @satomiwa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This shouldn't really bother anyone as Christians. Crucifixion was a Roman punishment, they crucified a lot of people, just so happened that one of those people was Jesus. The crucifix is basically a 2000 year old version of an electric chair. It's a bit odd that Christians adapted it as their symbol to wear around their necks, but nothing in this performance should be interpreted as disrespectful to Christians.
